    Amazing Local Performance!

by JeanieJ on 12/25/21State Theatre - Minneapolis

This is one of the best local performances here in the Twin Cities! We have gone annually and absolutely love it! Better than the touring Russian Production. Better than the NYC Nutcracker. Seriously. Go see it next year!

    Great show

by Kathy on 12/25/21State Theatre - Minneapolis

We really enjoyed the Nutcracker! The music was fantastic and the dancing very well done! Did not appreciate showing my vac card and then having to wear a mask!

    Saw Nutcracker with two granddaughters

by Sweetie Pie on 12/24/21State Theatre - Minneapolis

The performance was fine, better than others I have seen. Maybe a bit long for the younger set. Went to the Capital Grill next door after the performance for dinner. After dinner, walked out past the bar and saw Santa sitting at the bar throwing down a few. Whew!

    Nutcracker

by Sharon on 12/23/21State Theatre - Minneapolis

It was amazing. The time, effort, talent, and commitment in this time of Covid was inspiring

    Okay

by Renee on 12/22/21State Theatre - Minneapolis

The ballet was fun and beautiful. The theater seats however are old, torn and uncomfortable. For the price of tickets you think could be fixed. And the mask patrol was extreme. If everyone there is vaccinated then mask should be optional since the person next to you is eating and spreading germs anyways with their mask down and dirtying their hands by eating and touching arm rest next to you.

No holds barred - fantastic experience

by Lily's Mom on 12/22/21State Theatre - Minneapolis

From beginning to end, it was a riveting performance - as fine as any I've seen. Further the staff at the State Theater were uber efficient at moving a very large crowd in and out, electronic ticketing worked flawlessly, and Covid safety measures were applied without getting in anyone's way. Hard to improve on this.

    Non-traditional

by Barbarajoyce on 12/21/21State Theatre - Minneapolis

Our first time seeing this version of the Nutcracker and it was lovely but we definitely missed the beauty of the ballet that defines the show in the traditional version of the Nutcracker.

    Beautiful!

    by M. G. on 12/19/21

Take your whole family to this beautiful production of the Nutcracker. The production is beautiful and the live orchestra seals the deal. Having younger dancers in the roles of mice, toys and cousins makes the scenes believable and made my daughter dream of being a ballerina. The professional dancers made the show captivating. Bring your whole family.

Great first experience for my LO

    by J. T. on 12/29/19State Theatre - Minneapolis

I thought it was the perfect first introduction for my LO into a world of ballet and tradition I grew up with.

    A Total Christmas Wonderland!

by JeanieJ on 12/26/19State Theatre - Minneapolis

My daughter and I have gone to various Nutcrackers over the years. This is absolutely the best. With a full live orchestra and amazing dancers, this performance is one of the best Christmas shows in the Twin Cities. This is now a "do not miss" experience for my daughter and myself. It is fantastic! Put this down on your Christmas list for things to enjoy in 2020....I have!

    Great experience, start to finish.

    by B. R. on 12/25/19State Theatre - Minneapolis

I have attended several Nutcracker performances in the past. This performance of Loyce Houston’s Nutcracker was simply the best!

    Too much

by Doc on 12/23/19State Theatre - Minneapolis

Just a comment about the snacks. It's not really part of the experience to hear someone shoving their hands in a tiny plastic snack bag. 20 seconds later they finally take out their hand to chew loudly. It's just not the same polite, classy clientele. It's a ballet. To be respected. It's not a movie theater. Stop the snacks. There are plenty of restaurants to eat at. A 2 hour show isn't going to kill anyone if they can't eat. Respect the others who want to hear the music, feel the music and enjoy it. Not your fat hand rummaging in plastic.

Nutcracker - not as good this year

    by D. J. on 12/29/18State Theatre - Minneapolis

I would give an overall rating of 3.5 - We attended the Nutcracker as a new family tradition starting Christmas of 2017. That was our first time to go to the Nutcracker for some of our family members. We all felt that our show in 2017 was much more precise - and crisp and clean. This year didn't seem nearly as professional for some reason. It of course was a beautiful performance, but felt it lacked precision particularly with the children - and the solders. Lovely evening out as a family, but not sure we will come again next year, probably take a break and find a different show to go to. Thanks for asking!

    Outstanding Christmas Must

A classic play for Christmas. Choreography and dancers are the best. Highly recommended!

    Had a fantabulous time!

by Vern on 12/26/18State Theatre - Minneapolis

This was my first time going to Loyce Houlton's Nutcracker Fantasy, this despite living here all my life. I wish I'd been going all these years, as this was a delightful and fantastic experience. The dance was special, telling the story so effectively. And the orchestra was, for all intents and purposes, flawless. I had gone to one of the Moscow Ballet's touring company performances here just a few years ago, at the same theater, in fact. Although very good, as one would expect, it did not have a live orchestra, and that's where this performance was especially fine.

Shouldn't have wasted time on drag queens and amateurs.

by Cmort on 12/20/18State Theatre - Minneapolis

With so many children's scenes using what appeared to be students of Loyce Houlton's school, it left less time for the experienced professional dancers. The costumes were decent and the dances by the professionals were lovely. Why they felt the need to add in a shreiking drag queen to what is a family show was beyond me. Pointless and NOT funny.

    Beautiful

by Heidi on 12/19/18State Theatre - Minneapolis

Speaker blocked most of my view of the Christmas tree. That was disappointing considering how expensive the tix were. Otherwise wonderful!!

    Excellent Nutcracker

by Rich M on 12/19/18State Theatre - Minneapolis

This production of the NUTCRACKER SUITE was very well done in all respects, and exceptional in the use of younger performers. It's one thing to train young aspiring ballet dancers but the Loyce Houlton company actually puts them on stage - as mice - as soldiers. It gives me hope and optimism about the future of the dance in Minnesota.
