About

Los Tigres del Norte on Tour

With their piercing wails and songs that passionately tell of blue-collar hardships, love, loss, and the war on drugs, Los Tigres del Norte evoke plenty of gut-wrenching emotion in their repertoire. Boasting a career that spans more than five decades, these beloved norteños continue to inspire legions of fans from both sides of the border.

Armed with Jorgé's mad accordion riffs, Hernán's fuming electric bass lines, Eduardo's brilliant sax, Luis' snarling 12-string guitar fret-work, and Óscar Lara's powerful drumming, their live performances are known to be riveting. They keep their sets lively and evocative with meaningful messages that build solidarity with the Latin diaspora. Impressively, their in-demand showcases even broke Cardi B's attendance record at RodeoHouston in March 2019.

Los Tigres del Norte Background

No other norteño group tells the story of the immigrant experience in the U.S. quite the way Los Tigres del Norte do. Mexican immigrants themselves, they moved to San Jose, California, from Sinaloa, Mexico, in the late 1960s as teenagers. Led by vocalist and accordionist José Hernández, they started playing locally.

When the Hernández troupe of brothers and cousins caught the attention of aspiring music promoter Art Walker, he recorded their early material and made them the basis of his Fama Records.

In 1971, the frontman heard a live mariachi song about cross-border drug trafficking, a pivotal moment that would inspire Los Tigres' heartfelt and cinematic songwriting. Their wildly popular first corrido, the polka-driven "Contrabando y Traición" ("Smuggling and Betrayal") even inspired a movie of the same name in 1977.

Just about every year since their emergence, the prolific Northern Mexican cowboys have served as working-class heroes, narrating candidly the lives of the voiceless population in songs that transcend generations — hits like "La Jaula De Oro," "La Bala," "La Puerta Negra," and the recent "Un Consentido de Dios."

by robomusic on 6/19/11Event Center at San Jose State University - San Jose

The sound was terrible, we could not hear anything. It was to loud and we left early. The group is great but the sound enginers are bad. We could not understand the singing.

That was the worse I never heard

    by Cobra97 on 6/18/11Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

I want to say to Ramon Ayala "Congratulations", you guys are like the wine, older you're getting, better you guys sing. I really enjoyed your music and you presentations. Very, very good musical group, I would give you 100 stars. Nevertheless, this review it's for Los Tigres del Norte: poor music. I won't recommend your music, you guys were very out of tone, out of time, poor vocalization. I don't know what happened to you guys. I'd classify this event as follows: Los Tigres del Norte: poor event, zero or 1 star. Ramon Ayala: excellent event, 5 stars.

    Tigres...Sabado de Gloria

by RayadoNL on 6/14/11Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

I think it was good. There was a lot of beautiful girls there. I love the ballroom structure and the the disco lights were impressive. The ballroom itself is huge and there is plenty of room to dance, no doubt about that. There was plenty of security so no problems there. Parking was very accessible and very close (only$20). There were five bands performing averaging 1-2 hours each. Los Tigres del Norte played for 2.5 hours exactly so I was happy. One thing I hated was the sound. Sometimes I couldn't tell what the artists were singing. So, on this matter, I was totally disappointed. I paid $62 to hear crystal clear sound. However, this was not the case. Sound was horrible. And I've been in lesser ballrooms (and smaller) and even them offer better sound. Also, there should be more resting areas for people to relax. There were not enough tables and chairs and the resting areas were too small. Other than that, I enjoyed the concert. I got to see one of my favorite bands of all time.

Truly gives people what they want to hear

by Diana32 on 6/11/11Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts Nevada - Jean

I grew up listening to Los Tigres Del Norte since I was 4/5 years old. Their music is amazing and their concerts were even more amazing. Their talent is just as amazing in person. They love to make their fans have suspense before they go on stage you truly feel like you are part of a legend when you are listening to their music. I love how they stay humble and ask how everyone is doing they truly care about the people and they don't dissapoint at all. My fav part was they announced what song we wanted 2 listen 2 b/c they said they they were here 2 give the people what they wanted 2 listen 2. They were even giving shoutouts to the crowds saying happy birthday and a husband wrote in a note saying that because he asked this girl out to dance a Los Tigres Del Norte song they started talking and now have been married for over 30 years! They responded by saying congrats and they are happy to see that their music has touched them. After that they even played their song they danced to the first time they met. They have people on their feet the whole time. When they played La Puerta Negra the crowd went wild and started singing along to the lyrics. The vibe inside is truly undescrible. You have to be there to experience it. If you have a chance to see them take it it's something unforgetable and worth the money trust me.

The concert was great!!!! But the Admin sucks!!!!!

by jlmendoza on 2/28/11Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts - Primm

Please don't get me wrong! The Tigres del Norte are #1! No doubt about that. Their music, their show, etc is incredible. But the administration of the Casino/Concert Place sucks!!! They did not allow The Tigres not even one minute over the two hour presentation although the concert started half hour late. I'm been to other Tigres' concert like at the L.A. Convention Center and they did an extra 30 minute presentation.

    Simply worth it

by DjLorenzo on 10/24/10Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

Can't really explain how good and energetic their music is when heard live. They sound as if though you were actually hearing their cd. My mom is 58 and was her first time seeing them "live" in her life. She was blasted. Again, you have to see them to know what kind of experience they make you have. I really recommend them.
