About

The Los Angeles Philharmonic, affectionately called the LA Phil by concertgoers, is one of the most forward-thinking symphony orchestras in the country, as beloved by music lovers for its visionary programming as it is for its location in Frank Gehry's iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall. Originally founded in 1919, the Los Angeles Philharmonic emerged from relatively humble beginnings to become one of the world's premier symphony orchestras. Over the years, many notable conductors have led the orchestra, including Zubin Mehta, Andre Previn, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. In 2003, the LA Phil's popularity spiked after a move from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to Frank Gehyr's sculptural Walt Disney Concert Hall, which boasts world class acoustics and a one-of-a-kind organ designed by the architect. Celebrated young conductor Gustavo Dudamel took the reins in 2009, paving the way for the LA Phil's continued presence at the vanguard of concert music.

    OK

by ApexJr on 8/1/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I thought it was OK and well done, I did this as a compromise to my wife and she would give it a 5 star. She loved it, so we have 50% Amazing. Don't get me wrong, I didn't say I didn't like it, it just was not what I would have picked.

    A lengendary show!

    by Cindy2 on 8/1/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Wow, one of the best shows I've ever seen at the Hollywood Bowl. Singing along with Florence Henderson to the Brady Bunch theme song and hearing Dick Van Dyke perform songs from Mary Poppins live... and rap! Yes, I said rap! A wonderful, feel-good show!

Great to see Dick Van Dyke

by petboy on 8/1/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

While the evening was great on all the performer's parts, seeing Dick Van Dyke was the ultimate treat. That was evident by the standing ovation he received when he just walked onto the stage.

    Hollywood bowl

    by Canoe42965 on 8/1/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The draw was to experience the Hollywood bowl. The pleasure was a nice evening of nostalgia with TV greats like Dick Van Dyke. But the great surprise was the LA Philharmonic. What an outstanding performance.

Most performers have had better voice days. That's strange, this comment "Most performers have had better voice days."was not accepted as it was considered too short!

    Feinstein was/is short...more than you'll know

by Anonymous on 8/1/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Some high points but overall uneven. The second act was way TOOO short. Rather the the Ameriocan songbook- it was Anthony Newly and other stuff. Actually an Anthony Newly tribute would have been better. What were they thinking when they put this show toogether??!!

Feinstein & the Singing Stars of TV = wonderful

by Sakabi on 8/1/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a beautiful night under the stars. I couldn't have asked for better weather to enjoy the amazing show. The only thing that would have made it better is if the loud, disrespectful & out of control drunks sitting behind my family & I (a group who seemed more concerned about socializing and drinking) would have left. Thankfully there were plenty of empty seats and we moved and were able to enjoy the rest of the show. The collection of performers were above my expectations. It made for a happy birthday celebration for my Mom & Dad. We were all happy to be there and highly recommend the show, performers, and venue.

    Great New World

by dvorakfan on 7/30/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The Sibelius violin concerto was pleasant. It is a piece I was not too familiar with. My 21 year old daughter liked it and she is not big into classical music. The performance of the Dvorak's New World, my favorite piece of classical music was very good. A little slow at the beginning and an unfortunate error by one of the horn players but it quickly became a very enjoyable experience.

The Living Sisters are incredible performers. You can tell they really do "love to live". They have so much fun on stage that the audience can't help but feel good. The stage setting was of a living room and it really felt more like visiting old friends than being at a concert. Adding to the excitement was an astonishing array of talented friends that "dropped by". Shirley Ann Manson, John C. Reilly, Zooey Deschanel and more. This was one event I will never forget.

by Threedatetheory on 5/10/11Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

This show was amazing! He really is incredible and he is a very sweet man! I got to meet him after the show and it is truly inspiring how someone that young can create such beautiful music. His outfits were also wonderful and really made his performance fun to watch. It didn't hurt that my friends, who went with me, and I thought he was good-looking. :)

    Cameron Carpenter Concert

by jrcomfort on 5/10/11Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

My first time at WDCH - it's very beautiful and the acoustics are perfect. The concert was all and more than I expected and I enjoyed it thouroughly. I also enjoyed the pre-concert lecture with Cameron and appreciate his perspective and opinion. The pipe organ is one of the best I have ever heard.

It was the first time for us at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and we found it really magnificent. The director was very young but he gave a very nice and touching interpretation.

    Awesome!

by PaulPad on 3/14/11Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

You can't beat Orchestra View seats being able to see Dudamel's face conducting. Both he and the LA Phil were awesome. And LA Phil's hiring of actors (Orlando Bloom, Anika Noni Rose, Matthew Rhys and Malcolm McDowell) to play scenes from Shakespeare to go along with Tchaikovsky's Shakespearean symphony was a great idea. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

    GREAT EVENING

by georgy8888 on 3/13/11Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

OUTSTANDING EVENING...except the "speech loudspeakers" are still very bad..... the same problem as when ESA PEKKA opened the Hall many years ago. HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE ACTORS WORDS...but the music was...GREAT!
