Beautiful venue , Lorena sounded like an angel and her accompanying band was excellent. We felt very safe walking back 4 blocks to our hotel.
I first saw Loreena back in 1988 at the Guelph Arboretum. Some in small venues like that and Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford and times like Thursday last at the State Theatre. To see her move from a solo artist to the first class band I of today is quite exciting. She has Hugh Marsh in her band and I recall seeing him in the mid 80’s on the Stratford Festival stage with Bruce Cockburn. How time flies and how some artists grow exponentially. She is not to be missed.
This turned out to be more of an acoustic performance. It became redundant and putting me to sleep. I even left early. Violin player wasn't there and most of the dynamic instrumentation and percussion wasn't there which to me is what I'm used to hearing and critical to the experience. On the plus side I was very impressed with her voice. Wasn't a big fan of it before but hearing her in person demonstrated how good it really is. Also the cello player was amazing.
The venue, Chicago's Auditorium Theater, was great. The accompanying musicians were exceptional, all playing multiple instruments. Loreena McKennitt was an interesting story-teller throughout her performance. But most impressive is her voice. Being an older person myself, I was amazed that despite her own age her voice still shows amazing range, clarity, and power. During the performance, I closed my eyes and thought I was listening to songs from a 25 yr old CD, no vocal degradation you so often hear in older performers. The concert was all exceptional music without the glitz and glamour so common in today's concert performances.
Amazing concert , Loreena has the most beautiful voice . Even with 1 band member missing , the music was enchanting .
I have wanted to see Loreena McKennitt for many years. Have loved her music for 30 years. When the opportunity to see her in concert presented I grabbed tickets immediately. And she certainly did not disappoint. Very personable to the audience. Her voice is as beautiful and pure as when I 1st heard it. Delightful evening!
A jewel-like performance in one of the best performance venues in the world, Chicago's Auditorium Theater. My wife and I have been fans of Loreena for many years (and perform some of her songs) but this was the first time seeing her in person. She started by apologizing for the fact that her five piece group was down to four due to the violinist contracting Covid two days before. The musicians covered the gaps seamlessly, and filled two and a half hours with a journey through her 35+ years composing and performing with many moments of breathtaking beauty. Her supporting musicians are all multi-instrumental aces and provided a wide range of musical colors and textures. Loreena is also a very engaging story teller and her accounts of her life, her approach to composing, and anecdotes of her music career were fascinating and often quite humorous. She has the ability to dazzle without lapsing into flashiness.
Loreena sounded amazing! Her voice is just one of a kind. Really enjoyed her stories. Venue was great. Easy in and easy out.
As an artist, she always gives a wonderful performance! As a person, she is just so entertaining in a very intellectual way. I love her music and her concerts!
From start to finish a few hours very enjoyably spent at the gorgeous, historic Auditorium Theater in Chicago! We discovered the music of Loreena McKennitt and her very talented fellow musicians and will look forward to their next concert...amazing voices possessed by Loreena and Caroline Lavelle as well as their virtuoso harp, piano and cello-playing accompanied by excellent guitar work. The one musician missing that evening was the fiddler, but Loreena promised that they would give it "their best"..and they did not disappoint!!
Taft Theatre was a perfect setting for the amazing concert of Loreena McKennitt. She has the most beautiful voice, and she performs, writes and arranges her songs with poetic and creative verve. She is also a great storyteller, very funny and insightful. Her backup musicians were superb. Highly recommend her performance!!
Loreena McKennitt is a phenomenal live performer. I have been a fan of hers for years but saw her live for the first time at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. The quality of the musicianship from Loreena and her band was fantastic. The range, power and tone of her voice is nothing short of remarkable. Her voice is more powerful in person than in her recordings. Loreena is a warm engaging performer. She regularly explained the inspiration behind her songs drawing the audience into her world. Even tunes that I was less familiar with, I totally enjoyed. It was a truly magical and otherworldly experience that I would recommend to anyone.
Wonderful performance even though they were down one musician due to Covid Lorena and the ensemble gave a wonderful, heartfelt performance.
Wow, wow, and then some more wow! After waiting 26 years to see Loreena in concert, it was Fantabulous. It was deeply moving, touching, evocative and simply beautiful. Loreena and her merry band of virtuosos are pure delight. The venue was also quite stunning.
Still sounds amazing after all these years. What a beautiful venue and playing nearly 2 1/2 hours. Had not seen her since 1997 and does not tour much in the US. Voice has not changed in fact sounded better than ever. Loved the "Re-Visit"album played in full.
Despite being down a performer the show was perfect. I had no idea Loreena was so funny, as well. The music was flawless and her personal tidbits were delightful
My 5 star rating is for Loreena McKennitt and her band’s 2 hour sold out performance at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago IL. The venue should also be commended for the hospitality of its ushers & for the theater’s wonderful acoustics & sound system. The Auditorium Theater was according to Frank Zappa described as the greatest musical venue in the world! It’s where I witnessed as a youth incredible performances by the Band, Derek and the Dominos, Elton John, Crosby Stills & Nash & many others. The only caveat was despite purchasing 1st row center seats, they was positioned directly behind a sound monitor that resulted in an obstructed view of the stage. I immediately notified an usher who contacted management who then moved us to two vacant 7th row center seats that were much more comfortable with unlimited view of the stage. Lastly, I’m a professional musician and have never been more impressed with a concert except for perhaps the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s recent performances of The Planets & Rachmaninoff’s 3rd piano concerto with Daniil Trifonov.
Voice like an angel. Charming, warm, personable - I would see her again in a heartbeat.
Loreena McKennitt is a pure artist and professional who connects so authentically with the audience, shared her life and experiences as a musician and human being. Her music did not miss anything even though the violinist was ill and could not perform. The remaining musicians with Loreena were magnificent. My son and I both loved her music and her stories.
I’m amazed of how talented Loreena and her band are. Loreena is quite a story teller, with funny corky tales of her journeys. One of the few artists that sounds just as well as she does on her recordings. Highly recommend live performer.
