About

Lorde is a Grammy-winning artist and cultural force, known for her genre-defying sound, introspective lyricism, and striking creative vision. Since her breakthrough with Pure Heroine in 2013, she has redefined the contours of modern pop--merging poetic storytelling with minimalist, emotionally resonant production. To date, she has amassed over 18 billion global streams and 18 million album sales worldwide.

In April 2025, she returned with What Was That, her first original release in four years. The single debuted to widespread acclaim and commercial success, hitting #1 on Spotify in the US -- her first US #1 on the platform since "Royals." It also landed at #3 in the UK and #5 globally, reaffirming her place at the forefront of pop music.

  • Was it good? Yes. Was it $74 good? Eh...

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed this show. Lorde was great. Her crowd interaction was good, and maybe even a bit tedious at the end. All of her songs sounded excellent. It was a mild night, so the temperature was good for this outdoor venue. Drinks were average priced. And the concert was certainly not sold out, not at that price. But here's the grip- on Facebook, Lorde posted that she was sick of seeing scalpers resell her tickets higher, so this would be an unforgettable concert with vivid attractions. Hence, the high price. But I'm not sure it was that great. We are all familiar with Lorde's songs, as they receive a lot of radio play. And the opening act, Magical Clouds (sp?), was very good too. But we didn't go for them. We went to see Lorde and she was good. Would have been good to see this 2 hour concert (relatively short) for less money. But overall a good time and I guess any concert with a high-profile star would cost this much, especially if it was all GA seating. Still...we thought we weren't royals. You certainly had to be one to have paid what we did for this show!

Only one word can describe from I've seen in the performance of Lorde, magic.

  • Amazing in all aspects

by JayJay183737281818 on 9/17/14JBL Live at Pier 97 - Hudson River Park New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lorde herself provided an outstanding preformance. The venue's location and the view of the city lights was beautiful. The General Admission worked out great as we only got there moments before they opened the doors, yet the line to get in (wrapping around a few streets) only took a few minutes and there was no rush to get infront because there was tome before anyone started playing where everyone got some nice food or drinks so we easily got in the front few "rows." The food and drinks were nice, also. Over all, I had an amazing night.

  • Inspiring, enigmatic, unforgettable

by JDursun on 9/17/14JBL Live at Pier 97 - Hudson River Park New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lorde may be an up-and-coming artist, but she's no stranger to the stage. Her set was incredible. I felt like I was in a dream sequence. She put effort into every detail: the smoke bubbles, the light set, the props, the video that played on the screens that looked like picture frames. She put her spirit into every song and danced her way through it until it ended. Her costumes were amazing; she looked like royalty in all three costume changes. The venue was beautiful, overlooking NYC, right on the water. It will be a night I will never forget. This girl will be selling out MSG sooner than we all think, so buy a ticket to her next show as soon as you can.

  • LORDE IS QUEEN!!

by Nickster929 on 9/17/14JBL Live at Pier 97 - Hudson River Park New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lorde was even more amazing than I could have ever imagined! Her voice is magical and she completely loses herself on the stage which is something so incredible to witness. She was truly born to do this and hasn't gotten caught up in the life of fame and fortune!

  • Praise the Lorde!!! Best concert ever!!!

First of all the venue was so beautiful. The pier was surrounded by the Hudson River, and it was sunny and gorgeous. The event staff, and security guards were the kindest I have ever encountered. They went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy and hydrated. They also chatted with us, and were just really friendly. Then not even sure where to begin but, the actual show is by far the best show I have ever seen live. Lorde always loves her fans, and calls us all friends. Her team of people are lovely, and kind. Her mom walks around and makes sure everything is ok. The way that Lorde engages the crowd is like no other. She shares so much, gets personal, and shares her heart. She sounds the same live as you would expect her to sound if you just were listening to her music, and took your earbuds out. She always hits all of those amazing notes, she is the girl that you see rocking the award shows with her dance moves. She has exquisite taste though and her costumes, lighting, stage design, make-up artist, etc. all make the show truly an unforgettable moment in your life. Her taste in supporting openers, is always the best. Majical Cloudz started the mood with thought evoking edgy yet peaceful music. Definitely go!

Some of it was cool. Sang most of the songs we wanted to hear. But....did a 15 minute chat with the audience right in the middle of the show that drug on and on. Also just a bit weird. We didn't understand a lot of her dances and effects.

She only played for an hour which was very disappointing. The venue itself was cool, offering great views and food trucks.

Lorde has a great stage presence - better than you'd expect from hearing her songs on the radio.

  • Mesmerizing, beautiful, and unforgettable!

by EmilyMartinez95 on 9/17/14JBL Live at Pier 97 - Hudson River Park New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lorde puts herself in a light where she wants to be remembered as a girl like any other 17-year-old out there. She wants the world to know she's weird and awkward and dealing with issues of life, boys, and growing up. That being said, she is not in any way, shape or form like your average 17-year-old girl. Majical Cloudz started promptly at 7. Doors opened an hour earlier and I was shocked at the lack of people around the stage once I got in. I heard stories from people saying that we needed to get to the venue 6 hours before the door opened in order to get a good spot but we got there an hour before it started, got on the huge line, and just waited. Many people were using the restrooms and eating at the various bars and food trucks available along the pier. But I was not fooled, once the show started, that crowd was full but comfortably full. Lots of people in a small space, but still comfortable. Venue was great. Beautiful sunset that night and then a great view of the skyline behind the stage once it got dark. Surreal. The crowd wasn't totally thrilled with Majical Cloudz. Most likely because no one had really heard of them prior. I did a little research and listened to their stuff before the show and like them quite a bit now. They're set was short but easy to listen to. Cohesive with Lorde's music for sure. Lorde came out at 8 perfectly on time after a suspenseful half an hour between her and the opening act. Once she came out, the party really started. Everyone was so excited and pumped for her and she opened with "Glory and Gore" which I thought was a great choice. Her vocals are much more powerful and impressive in person. Her voice is richer. Her strength amazing. The entire show left me wanting more. Tears in my eyes, blinded by her talent and her light show. She ended with "A World Alone" which I felt was anticlimactic-- I usually like when they end it with a more popular song. "Royals" would've been a better choice I personally feel, but it was great regardless. She have a rather long speech about how much she loves being in New York and how beautiful this city is and how she's growing up. It added to the intimacy and it was beautiful. She seems so humble and down to earth. She's the type of person you want to grab a coffee with. Overall, she is definitely worth seeing in concert. All of the video footage I got, each still looks like a piece of art. The design was very well thought out and I know that's something Lorde was proud of on this tour. She should be very proud. Would definitely see her again in a heartbeat. Amazing. Breathtaking. Surreal.
