About

Though still a teenager Lorde is swiftly establishing herself as a mighty force on the music scene, co-headlining shows with established acts like Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys.

The young yet prolific New Zealand-born singer/songwriter, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, released her first EP The Love Club, her first No. 1 single "Royals", and her first album Pure Heroine back-to-back-to-back. Her sound is a sparse affair that confidently drifts on the strength of beats, loops, and phenomenal vocals.

The pop and alternative worlds don't always mix, but fans of both styles have flocked to Lorde's electropop-driven sound and soulful voice. And despite her pop successes she's managed to craft a bit of an anti-pop image for herself, not afraid to sound off with opinions - both good and bad - about fellow young stars. Fans who've bought tickets to see Lorde in concert rave about her raw talent while looking forward to watching her grow as an artist and performer.

Lorde was discovered when she was just 12, after her performance of the Duffy song "Warwick Avenue" at a school talent show caught the ear of a record label talent scout. When she's not writing music Lorde listens to pop, hip hop, and electronic music and cites soul legends like Otis Redding as well as modern acts like Bon Iver and James Blake among her influences.

    Lorde was great!

by jmeredith on 3/27/14WaMu Theater - Seattle

Lorde put on a really great show! She sounded just like the record and the lights and visuals were quite entertaining. The reason this show gets a 4 is because there shouldn't have been seats in the floor area. I believe it should have been general admission so people could dance and get closer to the stage. I was disappointed in the set up at WaMu, but the concert itself was really fun!

    Great Show!

by ACCR on 3/27/14WaMu Theater - Seattle

I was hesitant to go because this is not the type of music I listen to. I ended up going anyway and I am so glad I did. This was a great show and Lorde is an amazing talent. I would highly recommend seeing this show and I can't wait for her to come back!

    Deserving of her stage name

    by Jaymon76 on 3/26/14The Fillmore - Detroit

Lorde truly impressed me. If you're a fan of her music, if you really REALLY feel her, and dont just bounce your head along because she is whats currently popular, then you will be utterly blown away by this show. From the moment she set foot on the stage untill the moment the lights came up, she owned it. The statement that less is more has never been more apropos than it is here. Her stage was simple, her dress was simple. The lighting was perfect, PERFECT for her music. Everything hit. The bass was astounding, each simple note from the keyboards held me, and Lorde sounded exceptional live. Im not certain Ive ever seen an artist that appeared so genuinely in love with her art. I didn't expect the phenomenal amount of energy she put off. I was bouncing a LOT more than I expected. Truly exceptional.

    Lorde was solid

by Krimpet on 3/25/14Fillmore Auditorium (Denver) - Denver

She came on stage a little after 9 and did an amazing performance of 14 songs. Has a lot of talent for such a young gal. Hope she continues to grow and doesn't pigeon hole herself in a dark persona.

    Great show!

by Anonymous on 3/24/14Peabody Opera House - St. Louis

Lorde's performance was fantastic! Her vocals were spot on. Her dancing was weirdly wonderful. The songs sounded just like her album, which is a plus. :) My 13-year-old daughter and I made a mini vaca around this show. We traveled 4.5 hrs to St. Louis for the show. It was a terrific bonding experience. Be aware that the ushers at this venue do not keep other concert goers from butting into your space! We had to complain to get people out of our view of the stage which was super aggravating since we paid for those seats! Others around us complained for the same reason. It was on ongoing ordeal.

Lorde is fantastic. Her voice was flawless for the whole show. My friend had only heard a few of her songs before the show and now he's hooked.

    She was fantastic.

by jthelundy on 3/23/14Peabody Opera House - St. Louis

I wasn't expecting anything less than an amazing performance and she delivered. Her taste in lighting is incredible. All the lights were so intricate and perfectly placed while still being rhythmic and pleasing to the eye. I've never seen lights so complicated at a concert. Her stage presence is strange for sure, but it's infectious. Her thrashing around on stage makes you want to dance. Also, she sounded great.

    Oh Lorde...

by Anonymous on 3/23/14Peabody Opera House - St. Louis

Missed the opener, but heard he was pretty good. As for Lorde - wow, what an incredible performance! She came out all by herself singing Glory and Gore before the rest of her band joined her...and from then on it just got better and better! Very simple setup, nothing but a chandelier, the band, and some lights. But that was all they needed to give a wonderful show! Can't wait til she's back in the STL!!

Lorde did not disappoint her large teenager base

by 3Nine on 3/23/14Peabody Opera House - St. Louis

Lorde put on a great show. She has a great voice live. The lighting show she had was the best I've seen in years. She was interactive with the crowd and told a long story about Ribs. All of the background voices are prerecorded. She needs a full band with background live singers. She can afford this now. And she need an encore. The merch table was awful. The only items they had were long sleeved shirts. They need to expand what they sell.

    Awesome show!!!

by GreyST on 3/23/14Peabody Opera House - St. Louis

Lorde definitely put on an amazing show!!! I love her music even more after seeing her live!! Her unique style of music is ingenious!! It's refreshing to see an artist that's real and true to herself. While her music reaches out to teens her age, her lyrics are wise beyond her years. The audience was filled with a mix of all ages, and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. I highly recommend going!!! I will definitely be looking for tickets on her next tour!!!

    Amazing

by samantha1156 on 3/23/14Peabody Opera House - St. Louis

Definitely a show worth seeing. The opening act, Lo-Fang, has an amazing talent, he plays guitar, violin, cello, and stand up bass, his voice is hypnotic And his falsetto will make you melt. Lorde definitely came to impress. Even though the venue was at the opera house, she worked the small stage and intimate setting to her advantage. The lights, the screens, the smoke and the music all meshed well. Lorde was phenomenal. You won't be disappointed if you have tickets to this show!

It was evident that this is Lorde's first big tour. I'm sure she will develop her stage presence over time. It seemed like she spent too much time singing bent over with her hair over her face. Sometime I actually thought I was watching Cousin It from the Addams Family. Lorde had trouble connecting with the audience but she had such a strong fan base the audience still cheered her with much excitement. At least she had rehearsed saying "Thank You St. Louis". I was also not a big fan of the blinding strobe lighting aimed straight at the audience, but that might be a sign of my age.

    Sounded better than the album

by iliveforlivemusic on 3/20/14Sound Academy - Toronto

This was an amazing show. Lorde put on a performance that literally stunned. She should've recorded her album at this show because she sounded better live than she does in recordings. Truly spectacular.

    Excellent!

by Lau517 on 3/18/14The Orpheum Theater - Boston

Lorde is both wise beyond her 17 years yet still a "kid". The best new ARTIST (meant in the TRUE sense of the word, not like those who sing songs written by others!) who is truly interesting, honest and raw. She's different and REAL... two qualities I both love and respect. I cannot wait for her to return to Boston. I'll be there for sure!

She was unreal. The one problem was that in the back of the venue, the music/acoustics were not as loud as they could have been/as loud as I would think they would have been in the front rows.
