About

Unburdened by contractual obligations and working at their studio and informal clubhouse Whispering Pines in Los Angeles, Lord Huron found the freedom and comfort to pursue their vision without compromise. The result is Vide Noir: a sonically bold, bravely-executed saga that pushes the band’s sound in ambitious new directions.

Singer, songwriter and producer Ben Schneider found inspiration wandering restlessly through his adopted home of Los Angeles at night. His aimless nocturnal journeys ranged all over the city – across the twinkling grid of the valley; into the creeping shadows of the foothills; through downtown’s neon canyons; way out to the darksome ocean. The resulting collection of songs feels like an epic odyssey through the city, across dimensions and out into the cosmos.

Many of Vide Noir’s songs were tested on the road as early as 2016 and honed with a jeweler’s precision into their final form. Dusty ballads share space on the album with punky rippers, ‘50s sock-hop sways and ethereal electronic passages. Each entry is a glinting star, and together they form a sonic constellation examining the search for meaning amidst the cold indifference of the universe.

Vide Noir was mixed by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips/MGMT) and engineered by Sonny DiPerri (Portugal. The Man, Animal Collective). The album honors the traditions of both rock and folk as it embraces modern studio techniques. The stylistic experimentation speaks to Lord Huron’s confidence as storytellers and as craftsmen, armed with a growing array of tools.

Lord Huron’s work always comes richly adorned, and Vide Noir is no exception. The album will be accompanied by a wealth of imagery, films and immersive experiences crafted to expand upon its narratives and themes. A true multi-media artist, Schneider has previously used videos, a comic book, a choose-your-own-adventure hotline and assorted Easter eggs as means of deepening the listener experience. Fans steely enough to confront the ineffable have already uncovered a few of these accoutrements.

Lord Huron was created by Los Angeles-based Ben Schneider. Born and raised in Michigan, Schneider drew inspiration from the Great Lakes, which were carved by glaciers 14,000 years ago, and his music stands in awe and wonder of the natural world

After writing and recording two independent EPs (Into the Sun and Mighty) on his own, demand grew for Lord Huron to perform live. Schneider recruited friends Mark Barry (percussion), Miguel Briseño (bass) and Tom Renaud (guitar). Having first played music together at the tender age of 12, the group reunited and quickly hit their stride, transforming the project into a full-fledged band. Lord Huron signed with IAMSOUND, and the label released 2012’s Lonesome Dreams, and Strange Trails in 2015.

Strange Trails included the song, “The Night We Met,” which was featured in the Netflix original series “13 Reasons Why.” The series and song both became hits, and “The Night We Met” was certified platinum in January of 2018. This year also marks the beginning of a unique alliance between Whispering Pines and Republic Records, who will partner in the release of Vide Noir.

Lord Huron has toured extensively in North America and Europe, earning rave reviews and performing for sold-out crowds at some of the world’s most prestigious venues. The band has appeared at a wide range of music festivals including Lollapalooza, Coachella, Bonnaroo and Newport Folk Festival.

August 17, 2022 Aretha Franklin Amphitheater Detroit

    by D. T. on 6/15/23

This show was so disappointing. Their sound was off the entire time. It seems the lead was trying to compensate with lots of energy—he threw so many spins into his dancing around that it eventually became comical. They acknowledged that the first three songs were a total disaster by jokingly referring to them as a “mic check.” The sound did not improve much after that, and it’s especially unfortunate the show was such a train wreck because I know a lot of their family and friends were in the audience. Maybe it was a one off and they normally sound great live, but the sound people need to figure something out because I didn’t pay $80 to listen to something that sounds like it’s being broadcasted out of a tin can and is literally painful to the ears at times.

    Amazing!!!

by Shelilia on 6/3/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Lord Huron was seriously the best performance and stage presence that I’ve ever been to. His music was just as good as a live record, and the overall performance was simply amazing. We also enjoyed buying their merchandise and signed memorabilia. If you ever have a chance to see him, just do it and pay for the best seats because it will be worth it.

    Excellent Show

by Favorite Band on 5/30/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

This was my first time seeing Lord Huron. Loved the show, great music, songs, energy. It was even better because I got to share this experience with the three people I love the most. ( my children) We all loved the show and hope to see them again soon. Do wish Setting Sun and Emerald Star were played. But I did enjoy each and every song that was played. Lord Huron is my favorite new music, pretty much the only new music I listen to. I am always telling people to give this group a listen to. The songs and music are just so good and tell stories. I really love there style and sound. I find the music very relaxing and pleasant. Thank you Lord Huron for playing Reno. Look forward to seeing you again.

    Great show!

by Sierra53 on 5/28/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Lord Huron show was more than I was expecting. They sounded amazing! Their light show was phenomenal. They had everyone up and dancing or swaying to the music. The show lasted 2 hours and they even came back and did 2 more songs because the crowd was so loud and wanted them to come back out.

    Moves almost like Mick Jagger

by D. S. on 5/28/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

The Lord Huron lead singer has an incredible voice and moves and dances a lot like Mick Jagger. He talks some and is funny but mostly wants to sing as many songs as possible and he does. The staging is different - fits the songs and the group - and the entire group is very good, including the woman piano player who does a duet on the "I Lied" song. Very fun concert - highly recommended!

    So much fun!

by Celine on 5/28/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

I was exhausted from travel the day before despite this had a great time. More dance space should be made in this theatre as it looked like everyone seated was yawning away. No matter the band I see here I will always aim to get the dance floor tickets.

    Another Great Show

by Ktmdude64 on 5/28/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Fifth time seeing Lord Huron and they continue not to disappoint. Their performances seem to get better with age/experience. Was a good 2 plus hour long set. Side note: GSR auditorium has good seating but acoustics are not perfect.

by JSBMSP on 8/29/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

The Lord Huron show was a good experience in every way. I wish they would have played my favorite song, “Mine Forever” two or three more times. Excellent theater setting although the seats weren’t really used much!

    Awesome show!

by JustJan on 8/28/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

I was introduced to Lord Huron by I’m local independent radio station I then found more songs on Amazon and knew I’d found something really special When I got the email from the venue that Lord here on was coming to the wing in Boston I immediately went right on to buy tickets I could not wait to see them in person. I Really enjoy live music and was certainly expecting a group a great show. But I left there on a Lord Huron high. It was a fantastic show, the sound was great, the lights were great, the band was great. I will absolutely be sure to see them whenever they are in the Boston area. I brought a friend who hadn’t heard of them before and she’s now a fan too -I can see why.

    Lord Huron Wang Theater

by Deejay777 on 8/28/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

Loved it. However the sound system could be a tad better. That and if it was an outdoor venue at night would be fantastic. The band is awesome.

    Great performance

by Rick H on 8/28/22Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

I brought my wife to see this band but I personally had never really listened to them. But after seeing the show they made a new fan out of me. I immediately got all their cds and I can sit and listen to them all the way through. The songs have a feeling to them that I don’t get from other bands. They tell a story that exactly goes along with the feel of the music. Great song writing and amazing music performance. 5 stars.
