About

Liz Phair’s debut album, Exile in Guyville (1993) was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time. It transformed the Chicago-raised musician into one of the most important singer-songwriters of her generation. Phair went on to earn two Grammy Award nominations and three gold records with Exile in Guyville, Whip-Smart (1994) and Liz Phair (2003), penning the hit songs “Why Can’t I?” and the Grammy-nominated “Supernova.” To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Exile in Guyville, Phair is embarking on the fall’s much-anticipated GUYVILLE TOUR, performing the debut album in its entirety.

    Liz Phair

by Jim on 11/21/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Liz Phair put on a tremendous show. Her voice was strong and pure. She's a very melodic guitar player. Her band was tight and very good. Playing the entire "Exile in Guyville"album didn't leave room for other songs I would have like to hear but still a great concert. Blondshell lead singer needs lessons in how to connect with and audience. I have a few of their songs and was looking forward to seeing them live but was disappointed- very little energy or ingratiating themselves to the audience.

    Terrible Sound Ruins Great Venue

by NYNative on 11/14/23The Masonic - San Francisco

I was so looking forward to hearing Liz Phair's anniversary of Exile in Guyville performance at the Masonic. Unfortunately, I could hardly hear a word of her singing. The mix/sound made only a few of her words intelligible, a sharp contrast from the album itself in which every word is clear. It's a great venue with wonderful sight lines from every seat. The staff is friendly and helpful. What a shame that the venue failed on the most important aspect of a concert -- the sound.

So much fun! Liz delivered with style.

by Cupcake Quattro on 11/14/23The Masonic - San Francisco

OK, OK, I haven't listened to Liz for maybe a decade... That said, she totally delivered! Her voice is BETTER than it's ever been. Her band was tight and super fun. So glad I went.

    Liz is still a badass

by Snappy Nappy on 11/14/23The Masonic - San Francisco

Despite being in the nose bleeds, we truly enjoyed the show. Liz delivered in the face of past negative reviews about her stage fright. She was in her skin and, wow, her voice holds up. Remarkable! The SF crowd showed their love vocally but too few stood and danced. Come on, Gen Xers! Staff were great but I’m not sure the Masonic has the best sound system if you’re in front and center.

So good, so so so so good

by N. on 11/14/23The Masonic - San Francisco

I don’t know what drove me to look up to see if Liz Phair was touring and to my surprise she was! I am so happy that I was able to go! This was easily one of the best concerts I have ever been to, Liz played all the hits! Such a great experience that I hope to carry with myself for years to come.

    Liz Phair was great!

by gl on 11/14/23The Masonic - San Francisco

Liz was great - so fun to hear the Guyville tracks live! Such a classic album. The sound at the venue needed some work - her mic wasn't turned up enough in some songs so you just got a wall of sound on those tracks. And her lyrics are important - you need to hear them!

Revising a masterpiece 30 years on

by JoLo on 11/14/23The Masonic - San Francisco

Caught Liz Phair in July 1993 after Exile on Guyville came out. Really fun to see her Pettit again. The Masonic is a great venue too!

Decades later she's still the best

by Steph on 11/14/23The Masonic - San Francisco

Many middle aged dreams came true this evening (yours truly included). Was Gen X angst just today's Gen Z depression? Who knows. But we listened, we felt, and we all remembered back to those glory years with this performance.

    Great Show in Great Venue

by DoubleDSquared on 11/14/23The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Liz Phair celebrated the 30th Anniversary of "Exile in Guyville"by playing the the full album from beginning to end in spectacular fashion. She sounded great and the inspired videos projected behind her added energy and imagination that helped this event top Phair's impressive "Exile"-inspired concert 5 years earlier at the Ace Theater. The energy of the crowd was through the roof and even Soul Asylum's David Pirner showed up for a song during the encore. Blondeshell, whose musical lineage can do doubt be drawn (whether directly or indirectly) from Phair, gave a solid opening performance although there was a bit of an echo on her vocals. The Wiltern, itself, is a great venue which is clean and has the rare layout that allows you to get a drink or grab a cocktail table without feeling crowded - even during a sold out show. Overall, a great night.

    Great 30 year revisit

by Shelleype on 11/13/23The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Always love going to the Wiltern. It’s beautiful and every seat is good. Liz Phair was full of energy and amazed that 30 years later, there are so many people who appreciate her and her seminal album.

    Liz great, soundman not

    by RemoW on 11/11/23Rialto Theatre-Tucson - Tucson

Liz put on a great show and hit all her best songs. You could tell it was the 2nd night of the tour. She seemed a little embarrassed by the enthusiastic crowd. But she settled in by the 4th or 5th songs and really started to feel it. Song selection, her voice, appearance all a 5. Now the reason for the 3 star. The guy running the sound board, he was not good. On most songs the drums overwhelmed the guitar and many time drowned out Liz's singing. The balance was awful. Where the drums were soft or not in use. The mix was ok. Guitars a little over the top but Liz was still clear. IF you are a Liz Phair fan, go see the show. If having a bad soundman ruins a show for you? Be prepared

    Pittsburgh Rex

by sparkmc on 2/9/11Rex Theater - Pittsburgh

Her show started at 8pm with an undisclosed opening band. I arrived at 1pm waiting for her to sign my 1994 Rolling Stone Mag. She pulled up in a taxi at 6pm. I ran out and go her to sign my magazine, and requested that she would sing "Dance of the Seven Veils" from her 1992 Album. She said that she didn't know the words and she would have to learn it, A month ago I attended the DC and Phili concert and she took 15 minutes to play requests from the crowd, and when I got my chance, she didn't do it in pittsburgh. Should of talked to the crowd more. We were so excited.
