About

Liz Phair’s debut album, Exile in Guyville (1993) was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time. It transformed the Chicago-raised musician into one of the most important singer-songwriters of her generation. Phair went on to earn two Grammy Award nominations and three gold records with Exile in Guyville, Whip-Smart (1994) and Liz Phair (2003), penning the hit songs “Why Can’t I?” and the Grammy-nominated “Supernova.” To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Exile in Guyville, Phair is embarking on the fall’s much-anticipated GUYVILLE TOUR, performing the debut album in its entirety.

    Liz Phair State Theater Kalamazoo

by Procobill on 12/10/23Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

Liz was in perfect form. Her voice is still awesome! Her current band is outstanding!! The mix was great as well. Nice mix of pieces from other albums once they did all of Exile.

    Liz is the best!

by D.R. on 12/7/23Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Liz Phair rocks as hard as ever! It was exciting to hear her first album in its entirety 30 years later. She told some fascinating stories about the origins of particular songs. I also enjoyed a selection of her hits at the end of the Exile in Guyville material.

    An absolute blast.

by Stephen on 12/6/23Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Liz Phair’s performance of Exile in GUYVILLE brought nostalgia and new life to a 30 year old album. There were new soundscapes with each song that were true to the original track but brought depth and color that shows she isn’t that same person from years prior. The band was very tight and her commentary on the songs was heartfelt even though this was her last week on tour and had said the same things throughout. I have been wanting to see her live since I bought the album release day in 1993. I finally got my chance.

    Great show!

Enjoyed seeing and hearing Liz Phair's classic album as I did not see her perform it when it originally came out.

    AMAZING

by KB on 12/3/23The Anthem - Washington

The venue was beautiful. The staff was awesome. It had all of the amenities of a big venue and all of the charm of your local shows. The food and beverage selection was great and very delicious. The show itself was AMAZING!!! We have a even looked to see more shows here.

    So Much Fun!

by Lu on 12/1/23Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

I was a bit worried that the fancier venue would inhibit crowd participation, but I should have known that fans of Liz Phair would not stay in their seats! We were all up, dancing & singing, the entire show. It was so much fun!! The staff and the venue were perfect, as usual, and the fancier lounge was a nice touch. Great show 👍

Liz is amazing and deserved a better venue!

by Barbara on 12/1/23Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

I'll never see a rock show at Symphony Hall again and I just don't know if people who book shows here are aware of what a terrible venue it is for amplified music. Either the acoustics are terrible for it or they have some kind of rule about volume... this is the second show I've seen here with a great artist/band (the other was Adam Ant) that just fell flat. They don't need to destroy your eardrums, BUT rock shows need to be LOUD in order to be immersive. That being said, Liz and her band were great, and she is a LEGEND. I was so thrilled to be seeing her for the first time. But it was like the sound barely left the stage. I could hear the guitar string noises from row K, that's how quiet it was. I also think the nature of this venue keeps away the people who would be buying tickets to this kind of show - there were huge chunks of empty seats. Liz, you deserve better!

    More than Phair

by Phairplae on 11/28/23The Anthem - Washington

As a longtime Phair Phanatic since 1994, it was a must that I attend this anniversary tour of the legendary debut “Exile in Guyville.” Liz played the album front to back and had an encore of her most beloved gems from other albums in her vast catalog. She looked and sounded amazing as ever. You’d hardly remember how stage fright she once was at the start of her performing career. Liz was playful with her banter to the crowd and filled the largest venue I’ve seen her play on one of her solo tours. The VIP ticket offered some limited merch that I will cherish forever. Thanks Liz for being true to yourself and your music. The band was phenomenal as well as Phairs own guitar playing and stage presence.

    Why seated

by DARNOT on 11/28/23The Anthem - Washington

I can understand having seats in the upper tiers but seats in the gen admission area made zero sense. First off no one used them. Second off when a 7’ tall man is in front of you you literally cannot see a thing. I thought the sound, remixing, was mediocre at best and as a revival of Exile on Guyville a total bust. Would’ve been happier to stay home and listen to my original CD.

    well worth it

by fatball on 11/28/23The Anthem - Washington

first of all. The Anthem is magnificent. what a perfect venue. the opener, Blondshell, was unknown to me, but not anymore. what a 90’s indie angsty throwback! the songs so visceral and raw. Liz must have handpicked her. and Liz…everyone there remembered those killer Exile In Guyville songs and made sure she knew it, and she appreciated it. a tight 4 piece band really worked these songs over and they still had that Low-Fi vibe. we all hung on every line and every word she spoke about these songs and the times in which they were written. she made us all wistful recalling that 90’s era. she put everything into writing them and 30 years later into performing them. she is awesome. that is all.

    Love my Liz

by Mike on 11/28/23The Anthem - Washington

Liz put on a great show. She has an amazing lead guitarist as well. The Anthem is a great venue. When opening act Blondshell performed she was rarely in a spotlight. The worst part was the solid lights high above the stage that were consistently pointed right in the eyes of the crowd for periods of time. Made it hard to look at the stage.

    Awesome show!

by Jen on 11/24/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

One of the best concerts I've been to in a long time. Liz Phair is always great to see live but it was even better as the Exile in Guyville 30th Anniversary concert at The Chicago Theater!

    Amazing, absolutely amazing

by Bankz on 11/21/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

It was perfect. That album was such a big part of my life and you could tell the same was true for everyone there. She had gorgeous renditions of all my favorite songs. Divorce Song, Mesmerizing, Shatter, but the real treat was Flower and Johnny Sunshine, where two singers up in the balcony sang backup vocals amid the crowd and it was one of the coolest things I’ve seen and heard in concert. Chicago thanks you, Liz. You rocked it.

    Guyville

by MDRUBER on 11/21/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Liz and the band were excellent and gave a true rendering of the Exile in Guyville album evoking the indie rock vibe of 1990's Wicker Park.

    Show of her lifetime

by JR on 11/21/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

What a treat to get to see Liz Phair back in Chicago so many years after recording Exile. Her joy at the rapturous homecoming crowd was palpable throughout the show, into the multi-song encore. Lucky to have caught her when we did. The only one having a better time may have been my 17 year old daughter, who got to hear all of her favorites in a night to remember.

Great to see Liz at home!

by dan on 11/21/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Overall, a great concert! There are simply no bad songs on that album so to see it performed was awesome! The first part of the concert seemed more reserved (play the songs as we remember them), but by the second half the band seemed to have way more fun and took advantage of the live venue. And the venue itself (Chicago Theater) is great - the view was excellent as was the sound

    Amazing!

by Faith on 11/21/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Liz Phair was amazing- her vocals and playing so clear, her engagement with the audience genuine. The encore selection of songs did not disappoint. The video backdrop went so well with the mood. It’s no surprise this was a sold out show. Thank you thank you for this trip down memory lane! Happy 30th, Exile In Guyville!!!
