LISA LISA IN CONCERT:
Freestyle icon Lisa Lisa always brings the dance party on her fun-loving live tours, delivering decade-spanning sets of her funky hits to nostalgic fans. Body-rocking jams like “I Wonder If I Take You Home” and “Head to Toe” sound as fresh today as they did in the ‘80s, and Lisa Lisa’s spunky energy and groove sense remain as infectious as ever. Whether she’s throwing it back with ‘80s freestyle favorites or busting out recent material like her 2009 collaboration with Pitbull, Lisa Lisa is a top-drawer performer whose beat-heavy shows always take fans on a dance-worthy journey down memory lane.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were one of the first acts to break out of NYC’s nascent freestyle scene in the mid-‘80s. New York-born Lisa Lisa, aka Lisa Velez, is of Puerto Rican descent, and grew up surrounded by both Latin music and urban contemporary styles in the city’s multicultural mix. In the mid-‘80s legendary R&B group Full Force discovered Velez, and they put together her backing band Cult Jam and began writing and producing tracks for the group’s debut. Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam released their first album Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force in 1985. The record produced several Gold-selling singles including the dance chart No. 1 “I Wonder If I Take You Home”. The band’s rise continued in 1987 with sophomore album Spanish Fly, a Platinum-certified smash that earned them two consecutive No. 1s on the Hot 100 – “Head to Toe” and “Lost in Emotion”. The band continued to be a regular presence on the dance chart through the rest of the decade, but in 1991 they called it quits. Lisa Lisa found some success as a solo artist in the mid-‘90s with moderate hits like “Skip to My Lu” and “When I Fell in Love”, but she spent much of the ‘00s out of the spotlight. She made a triumphant return in 2009 with her sixth studio album Life ‘n Love, and continues to turn it out with party-worthy performances at freestyle festivals around the country.

I don't know who was running the audio from Color me Badd through most of the Jets, but they should be fired. I *love* loud music... Loud was not the problem. The bass was so so so heavy, that you not only couldn't hear ANYTHING they were singing - you could barely make out the music.. and the floor shaking was so intense that it felt like an airplane was tunneling through the front door. I've never left a concert in my life, but if I wasn't there to see TKA and Lisa Lisa, I would have absolutely left. It wasn't until she was up on stage after a song or two, that SHE stopped and did a sound check. Made it not a great concert unfortunately. Would not go again.
The music, the atmosphere, the vibe all took me back to a time I was a teenager. My missus said, this feels like we’re at a day time!
The artists were great. Great songs and atmosphere. Only complaint is the bass was turned up on stage about halfway through the concert and you could barely hear the singing. Lisa Lisa noticed it and had them correct it.
It was just okay. The sound was horrible, the base of the speakers was horrible almost as if the speakers were busted. The microphone for several performers was not working so we could not hear them signing. The DJ was playing horrible throwbacks and the music was very low. The DJ did nothing to pump the crowed while we were waiting for past an hour for the concert to begin (concert was supposed to start at 7pm not 8pm). Eddie & Jobo as usual drunk and half of what they were saying made no sense, we could no understand what they were saying. The screen monitors were bouncing, the cameras were located in a horrible position so every time the artist was jumping the cameras jumped (ridiculous) not showing the performers. The best performers were TKA and Lisa Lisa. Very disappointed, a lot of people were saying the same thing.
Tony Bitoy gave us a great concert! All of the artists were amazing.
Energy great line up amazing. Sound system close to the stage was not good hard to hear them sing bass was overpowering but still had an awesome time and would go again
I was very disappointed with the seats. The stage seemed to be angled in person, so the view was horrible. Had I known I would have never picked those seats. Plus the sound was just as bad. The bass was so loud we couldn’t even hear one of the performers sing. It was all bass. We couldn’t help but laugh. The entire first half of the concert all we heard was mumbling due to the bass. Finally we got up to go to the restroom because our ears were hurting. When heading back I suggested we walk further down to see if there was a difference in sound and sure enough there was. Why would our section of seats even be sold? It was as if we were behind the stage. Also, the final performer asked for a sound check because she noticed it too. Other than that the concert was fun. It was nice to go back in time.
Great concert venue. Our seats were amazing! But the price of a beer is ridiculous. $18 without tip for a 20oz can is absurd.
Can’t wait until next years concert in 2025 in April
