LISA LISA IN CONCERT:

Freestyle icon Lisa Lisa always brings the dance party on her fun-loving live tours, delivering decade-spanning sets of her funky hits to nostalgic fans. Body-rocking jams like “I Wonder If I Take You Home” and “Head to Toe” sound as fresh today as they did in the ‘80s, and Lisa Lisa’s spunky energy and groove sense remain as infectious as ever. Whether she’s throwing it back with ‘80s freestyle favorites or busting out recent material like her 2009 collaboration with Pitbull, Lisa Lisa is a top-drawer performer whose beat-heavy shows always take fans on a dance-worthy journey down memory lane.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were one of the first acts to break out of NYC’s nascent freestyle scene in the mid-‘80s. New York-born Lisa Lisa, aka Lisa Velez, is of Puerto Rican descent, and grew up surrounded by both Latin music and urban contemporary styles in the city’s multicultural mix. In the mid-‘80s legendary R&B group Full Force discovered Velez, and they put together her backing band Cult Jam  and began writing and producing tracks for the group’s debut. Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam released their first album Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force in 1985. The record produced several Gold-selling singles including the dance chart No. 1 “I Wonder If I Take You Home”. The band’s rise continued in 1987 with sophomore album Spanish Fly, a Platinum-certified smash that earned them two consecutive No. 1s on the Hot 100 – “Head to Toe” and “Lost in Emotion”. The band continued to be a regular presence on the dance chart through the rest of the decade, but in 1991 they called it quits. Lisa Lisa found some success as a solo artist in the mid-‘90s with moderate hits like “Skip to My Lu” and “When I Fell in Love”, but she spent much of the ‘00s out of the spotlight. She made a triumphant return in 2009 with her sixth studio album Life ‘n Love, and continues to turn it out with party-worthy performances at freestyle festivals around the country.

    Great Concert, Wrong Venue

by JoJo on 4/22/24Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

Although the concert was great, All acts were great. Could have picked a better Venue. Rosemont Theater is definitely not for concerts. Comedy shows yes......Concerts NO! There were 2 screens, not big so if you sat on the side your view was not great. Otherwise I enjoyed my time travel back to the 80/90's.

    80s-90s music lover

by Rae on 4/22/24Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

Over all we had a great time! We did think that Eddie and Jobo were awful. The bass was way too over powering and we couldn’t hear most of the time. There were a couple of performers who should have NOT been there. We felt Lime and Rob base should have been the headliners and ended the show. Would have loved for Stevie B and Yaz to join next time!

    Could’ve been better

by LA on 4/22/24Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

Should’ve started at 7, not 8. Too much talking. 20 Fingers should not have been the first to go. Lisa Lisa should not have been the last. Not sure I’d spend the money to go again.

    Awesome Performance

by Dominic on 9/25/22Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

Seen Lisa Lisa perform at the Morongo casino in Cabazon and her performance was amazing. She still gots it. She looks a lot younger in person than in her photo, her voice still sounds great. The tickets were $20 for general admission and you got to sit wherever you like even in the front if you preferred but with a performance like hers who wants to sit. Best $20 ever spent.

    Not impressed

by Sandy on 9/25/22Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

She did not sing her songs like she usually does. She had backup singers who sang most of her songs. She sang too many new songs and not enough of the songs we've come to love. She did a medley of her great songs. Not impressed. Last time will see Lisa Lisa.

    Oh Lisa Lisa

by Chingon joe on 5/22/22The Canyon Montclair - Montclair

Great show with great back up bocals & dancers. Probably slow down on the the concerts due to greedy ticket companies. I mean, how much do you really need? Going to see local groups in our community. Tired of being ripped off continuously

Lisa Lisa and Full Force was on fire!

by Pookey on 1/11/22Historic BAL Theatre - San Leandro

I didn't know what to expect since it was my first time seeing Lisa Lisa perform live. Full Force too. Let me tell you, the did not disappoint. The concert was on fire! Full Force opened and got the crowd going. Super fun with a tribute to Kangol Kid. They were very entertaining. When Lisa Lisa's dancers got on the stage and lights came on folks jumped to their feet. She has an amazing voice, still. Also, major props to BAL Theatre staff for keeping everyone safe despite the current covid surge. It was a wonderful evening. Can't wait for the next old school act to come through. Lisa Lisa rocks!

    Not enough Full Force

by Coacha73 on 1/11/22Historic BAL Theatre - San Leandro

First of all the good, the venue was nice and quaint. I would have preferred some General Admission but still I'm all about small places. I also appreciate the fact that Full Force was accessible after the show, hanging out, snapping photos, they made themselves seem like people. Now for the disappointment, I grew up on Full Force and Lisa Lisa, and for me to attend a Full Force show and for them to only do 5 of their songs and not even full songs was a real bummer. They have enough hits and choose to oldies and other people music. I don't mind a couple but their entire setlist was driven by other people's songs really was a downer. Then Lisa Lisa came on and she did all of her hits and was overall good but I would have liked to hear her play her old stuff in it's entirety. I'm seeing Lisa Lisa again in a couple of weeks so hopefully it will be better.

Lisa Lisa concert couldn’t hear the beat!

by Val on 11/17/21Oxnard Performing Arts Center - Oxnard

So excited to see Lisa Lisa and Trenier, the sound was HORRIBLE. Lisa Lisa was telling stories and we couldn't hear any words just distorted mumbles. So disappointed. It would've been better if we listened to a CD! Waste of money. Loved we saw her in person, but wished it sounded good. Please fix the sound system!!!

A Cameo MixTape Experience that missed the hits

    by NewOrder1975 on 3/3/20Arena Theatre - Houston

Performers were on stage for too short of a time, and did not play some of the big hits. Some just played snippets of songs, somewhat like a mixtape. It felt like I paid for a DJ to play for 2 hours before, then for a few artists to make a cameo for just a few songs each. Event was okay, but not worth the cost charged. Chuly put more their pocket than what they paid the artists.

    Awful!

    by C. on 3/2/20Arena Theatre - Houston

Concert started an hour and a half late - 9:30. The time in between artists was way too long! Venue is disgusting. Restrooms are from the 80’s? Three stalls, dirty, ran out of toilet paper half way through event. Parking garage is ancient because 2019 trucks do not clear! WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!!!!
