About

From rock to country to opera, there's hardly a genre that 11-time Grammy winner and multi-award nominee Linda Ronstadt hasn't tackled with tremendous success. When Ronstadt performs live in concert, fans get a dynamic singer with a powerful voice that could shatter glass. Tickets to her tours sold out repeatedly as she broke all kinds of gender barriers, proving that a woman could hold her own in male-dominated rock and roll. Tucson-native Ronstadt met guitarist Bob Kimmel in college. With him and another guitarist, Kenny Edwards, she formed The Stone Ponies, a folk-rock trio with an ultra-hip California sound.

After experimenting with a variety of styles, she settled on a soft, country rock sound that became her signature style for many years. With the release of 1974's "Heart Like a Wheel" – which shot to No. 1 – Ronstadt was off and running, enjoying a slew of hits, such as "You're No Good," "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" and "When Will I Be Loved." These songs made Linda Ronstadt's name synonymous with her sweet vocal style. However, with her career as an interpretive singer, taking covers and transforming them into unique works with a flavor that belonged to her and her alone, Ronstadt ensured her place in the pantheon of great live singers. Her efforts did not go unrewarded. 1977's "Simple Dreams" went to No. 1 as well, winning three Grammys. In 1978, Ronstadt grabbed four of Billboard's top awards across four separate genres. After dazzling listeners in theater, opera and other genres, Ronstadt eventually settled into adult contemporary, a genre that suits her versatile voice perfectly. She continued to receive the industry's highest accolades for her vocal work across the field, her many collaborative efforts and her influential place in music history as a truly groundbreaking female artist.

Great Music For The Spanish Speaking

by oldschool1957 on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

The Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano were simply fantastic. Three of the violin players had such strong voices that they could be the next Latino Three Tenors. Their music was fun or emotional depending on the song. Most in the audience were singing to every song. It's been thirty years since I last saw Linda in concert on Christmas eve at the forum in LA. Her voice was just as strong as ever. As much as I appreciate music diversity, I'm giving the concert three and a half stars because of the lack of it. I love the songs of Mexico, but would have greatly appreciated one or two songs in english for the non-Latino members in the audience. Surely Linda's father enjoyed a song or two in English. As for the Bottom Line wanting to know if I would recommend this event to a friend - Yes/No, there should be a "Maybe" choice. For those who are from Mexico - Yes. For those who want to hear Linda's classic songs - No. I finally did recommed the show because of the great Mariachi's.

by andrefofio on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

For me the performances by LR and MLC conjured up memories of my childhood and the great times shared with friends and family. To have the chance to spend the evening with my wife and share memories of my youth was an invaluable experience. Thank you all so very much.

    Los Camperos is amazing

by dorbel on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

We were hoping that Linda will sing at least one English song since she spoke in English all throughout the show, but no!! However, we were impressed and in awe of Los Camperos who all performed exceptionally well all throughout the show with no music sheets. Amazing vocals!!!

by pattikins on 10/26/09Rabobank Arena Theater and Convention Center - Bakersfield

I took my friends to the concert along with my 26 year old daughter and everyone enjoyed themselves. it was one of my friends birthday and she had the time of her life! After the concert was over, the Mariachi's and dancers came out and talked to us and we took pictures with them. They were so graceous, I wished Linda came out too. I've loved her since I was a teenager and that was 37 years ago!

    The BEST!

by Jerdave03 on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

Yet again, Linda Ronstadt ceases to amaze with her passionate, amazing voice, singing her most loved and heart felt songs from her infamous albums Canciones de mi Padre. Her and Nati Cano with the Mariachi Los Camperos, put on an amazing, beyond words really, show that if you love Mariachi music, all you had to do was close your eyes and you could feel the passion in their voices and music. This is the third time my sister and I have seen Linda Ronstadt with Mariachi Los Camperos, and they are just the most dynamic duo! They really are. It was well worth the cost, actually I would have paid more to see her, with such great music, money should not be an object to hold someone back who loves this genre of music. Wonderful absolutely wonderful.

    Linda still has it.

by sister73 on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

We had front row seats and were mesmerized by her vocals and her class. Her songs Canciones de mi Padre took me back to my grandma when she sang La Negra. Linda pulled no punches with Las Laureles as her opener. My father-in-law's favorite. The spirits were with us and they were delighted.

    Linda Ronstadt

by bbmama on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

I feel she should have sang a little longer. She was on stage less than an hour and in between her songs she was off stage while the dancers were out. I had seen her last concert and this one was by far better. I would have liked to see her in a more traditional costume of mexico.

    Great Show!!!

by lblblb on 10/26/09Rabobank Theatre - Bakersfield

Great Show considering she is in her mid 60's. She can still belt out a note! She's not as energetic as prior performances but given age, you expect that. Mariachi's are awesome! She could not pull off this tour without them. Maybe next time, the coordinators will offer a show with no beer. The drunks never sat down...how disrespectful. Guy next to me got up 4 times for beer.

by gkastner on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

What an awesome treat for the matriarchs of our family. My mom and Tia were taken back down memory lane and it was truly a treat to witness. This musical experience was emotional and full of life. The showmanship and artistry of the members of Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano was breath taking. The collaboration of the Mariachi and Linda Ronstadt is definitely something you don't want to miss.

Visiting my past, enjoying the now,

by Maudlin on 10/26/09Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal City

The concert was traditional Mexican music at its best. Music that is part of who I am, past, present and future. I carry that music in my veins and if I could make that quality of music I would; everyday. As it is, I can enjoy the music and most definitely I can appreciate it. My mother and friends were with me, we had a wonderful time.

    Ronstadt was unprepared

by Babsgo79 on 10/26/09Rabobank Arena Theater and Convention Center - Bakersfield

I was really stoked when I purchased the tickets to attend the Linda Ronstadt/Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano in Bakersfield. I surprised my mother with this mini get-away gift for her birthday (early birthday gift). Unfortunately, I'm afraid to say that Linda did not make it completely worthwhile. She had a screen where she was reading the lyrics to all the songs. She was so focused on the screen that when approached by a gentleman to give her a rose, she was startled to look away from the screen and see him in front of her! The mariachi was superb and worked diligently in keeping up with her...since she would start the song late and the mariachi would immediately compensate. I was very disappointed. I had never attended one of her concerts before and the anticipation to see her was GREAT, but the overall delivery was short. :( Needless to say, I will never attend one of her concerts again. I believe that an artist's responsibility is to be prepared to give it their all when presenting a show. Linda wasn't prepared for this concert. People still applauded, enjoyed the mariachi and folkorico dancers. It's sad to say but maybe this was out of pity.
