Closed my eyes at time and thought John Lennon was performing. A great tribute to a great man who is still and will always be missed.

Excellent story of John Lennon's life

by j1aybird on 1/13/15Union Square Theatre - New York

I very much enjoyed the unique and haunting renditions of John's music especially in combination with his words and frame of mind during the periods covered. Although I know EVERYTHING about John (lol!) I still learned some things!

    Very disappointing!

by Twoyearoldtwins on 1/10/15Union Square Theatre - New York

90 minutes with no intermission. The pianist was AMAZING...that's why this show gets any stars at all. The singer was painful to listen to. I wish there had been an intermission so that I could have left without being disruptive. The music was of course wonderful, and the new harmonies didn't bother me...it was just the voice of the singer that made the evening so unpleasant.

    So Disappointed

by WHRR2112 on 1/7/15Union Square Theatre - New York

Sorry to say, but this event was just not good. I am a huge Beatles fan and especially a Lennon fan, and as much as I wanted it to be good, it just wasn't. The singer was off key and simply not good. The piano player was wonderful, but couldn't carry the show.....so not worth the money. Bought these tickets for my son as a Christmas present and so sorry I wasted my money on this......

Solid portrayal of John Lennon and his Music

by TJJGVV on 1/6/15Union Square Theatre - New York

John Waters does a solid portrayal of John Lennon in first person. He on guitar and Stewart D’Arrietta on piano perform some nice vignettes from Beatles and Lennon solo songs. That said, none of the discussions of his life growing up, as a Beatle, or post-Beatle days will be new to real Beatles/Lennon fans. And it would have been nice to hear some of the songs all the way thru, but then the performance would have been longer than 85 minutes and maybe they would have had to pay royalties to Paul and/or Yoko.. I would recommend this only to the most die-hard Lennon fans who need to see or hear anything they can about him.

Lennon : Through a Glass Onion was excellent!

by Jacko13 on 1/6/15Union Square Theatre - New York

Excellent experience on my first visit to New York. As a Beatles/John Lennon fan it was a safe bet I would enjoy the evening. My wife really enjoyed the evening too despite not being a music fan generally. That speaks volumes for the quality of this performance and theatre!

    NOT GREAT

by CMARCUS5 on 1/5/15Union Square Theatre - New York

WE KNOW HE HAD TO BE IN CHARACTER, BUT HE TOTALLY LOST US WITH THE ACCENT. 95% OF THE TIME WE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WAS SAYING. WE ENJOYED THE MUSIC. THE PIANIST WAS GREAT. BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE DIALOG CAUSED US TO LOSE INTEREST IN THE PLAY. NO INTERMISSION. IF THERE WAS WE WOULD'VE LEFT. I LOVE JOHN LENNON AND AM FAMILIAR WITH HIS LIFE STORY AND THE ACCENT MADE ME WORK TOO TOO HARD TO STAY INTO THE SHOW. SPENT TO LONG ON THE NON FAMILIAR SONGS AS WELL.

    Excellent show!

by michelle14416 on 1/4/15Union Square Theatre - New York

Much better than I expected! I originally thought it was a play about Lennon's life & only after I ordered the tickets, I realized it was just a concert with 2 musicians. I thought it was going to be boring, but I was pleasantly surprised - it was so much more than a cover band playing Beatles songs. The musicians were amazing & it was a heartfelt performance - that was in fact like a play after all. Definitely worth it! They deserved a standing ovation!

    Mezmerizing Performance

by idontknowwhatyouwant on 1/3/15Union Square Theatre - New York

2 very talented guys on stage. 1 playing guitar, singing and telling a story of the life of Lennon. 1 backing him up on piano. The stories were so interesting and the songs just brought back so many great memories of Lennon and the Beatles. My husband & I were so glad we didn't miss it. Most enjoyable!

    Unfortunate experience

by Silverhair9 on 1/2/15Union Square Theatre - New York

Due to quality of sound amplification, I could not understand most of words in songs , and half in dialogue. Actor seemed good. Too bad I couldnt tell what he was saying most of the time. Younger audience, all happily drinking wine from bar, didn't seem to mind.

    John & Stewart -excellent musicians.

by furdee on 1/1/15Union Square Theatre - New York

John & Stewart captured the essense of Lennon's writing and performing. At times a bit too loud for that sound system causing undue distortion. John was very articulate with the timing of the music and the sylables. Overall most enjoyable to hear some of the events of JOL and confirmation of the connection from the words in the lyrics. Happy New Year!

The pianist was great. The vocalist, John Waters, was average. His voice was rough; He couldn't carry many of the songs well. I struggled to understand the monologue due to his accent. He did play with passion, but if I am going to a show, I want to hear someone with an exceptional voice performing. We enjoyed the show because of the music memories; it just wasn't fabulous.
