Canadian artist Leith Ross has been writing songs since they were a 12-year-old on the outskirts of Ottawa, Ontario. While pursuing a jazz voice degree at Humber College in Toronto, Ross penned eight songs for a final school project that would become their debut EP: 2020's Motherwell. While in college, Ross came out as gay and later trans/non-binary. "That one specifically has been a constant, difficult journey of realizing that I'm going to have to come out a million times a month for the rest of my life, especially entering music spaces," Ross told The Luna Creative in 2022.
Ross followed Motherwell with a second EP in 2021, I'd Have to Think About It, and in 2022, landed a viral hit with their song "We'll Never Have Sex." NME has described Ross as "Gen Z's new favorite indie songwriter," and their melancholic sound draws inspiration from Phoebe Bridgers, Feist, Lucinda Williams, and classic Disney films.
The singer-songwriter's live performances showcase enchanted vocals, introspective lyrics and a delicately-strummed guitar. Leith Ross' 2022 tour took them across Europe and North America, and they'll again tour in 2023 in support of their 2023 debut album, To Learn.
