Authentic. Exquisite. A real intimate concert. She sang and interacted with public making it feel they were part of the concert.

Good show with plenty of enthusiasm from Laura. Pity about low turnout. Air conditioning was turned down too low !!

The Sound was terrific! The band was amazing, pure vocals, interesting arrangements. Stood upstairs where there was some light, would prefer the dimmed, colored lighting better, tough. Even so, the experience was powerful topped listening to the CD at home.
Laura Mvula ROCKED at the Sinclair
by moosecat on 4/10/14The Sinclair - CambridgeRating: 5 out of 5Whew....my brain is still ON FIRE after seeing what has to be, for me, the best live show I've seen (in Boston) so far in 2014! (Picture this: After the show got out, I was asking complete strangers in Harvard Square if they just saw this amazing show. My hair is crazy, I'm drenched by rain, with a crazed look in my eyes 'Wasn't it amazing?" God help me. The spirit of Susan Jo told me that I needed to get home - soon). The Sinclair was sold out, and rockin' hard for this amazing show. Laura Mvula is a 28 year old British soul/jazz/pop singer from Birmingham, England. She has released only one CD so far, and it is a CORKER! 'Sing to the Moon' is chock full of great songs - about love, loss, alienation, and joy. I love it when a new talent (to me) actually writes his/her own lyrics. She clearly has a lot to say! Still relatively new to touring, she won the crowd over with several key factors: 1) Great, musical songs 2) Excellent writing 3) A terrific stage presence which made you like her immediately, and eventually to feel almost a bit overwhelmed by her sheer talent. 4) An absolutely first-rate band, including a classically trained violinist and cello player, a harpist (!), a fantastic jazz-style bass player, a sleek and powerful drummer, and Laura herself, playing keyboards. 5) Finally, she has a wonderful, emotive and smoky voice which coiled around you as you listened, pulling you under her spell. She communicated her emotions very directly to the swaying, clapping, and singing crowd. This was a love fest. And this was also (for Boston) a very mixed crowd. Overwhelmed by the reaction, Laura enthused, "Boston, this may be our best show....EVER!" A bit of hyperbole I'm sure, but the sentiment was clear and very appreciated. She carefully re-constructed the 'Moon' album in performance (and why not?), which the audience obviously knew very well and LOVED. Laura seemed quite surprised at this intense a reaction for her, and her music, but she earned every accolade she received on this night. Laura Mvula is an IMMENSE talent who is only just emerging into popular music circles. Her background includes singing in a capella vocal groups, singing gospel, and even conducting Community Choirs in England. Laura graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, so this hardly a novice! But up until a few years back, she was still temping, and sending out demos to record companies. Luckily, the right person heard this unique and wonderful talent, and helped to expose her to the world. I am so thankful to know and enjoy her music. Do yourself a favor, and (however you listen to music), CHECK HER OUT! Remember this name.....LAURA MVULA
