  • Laura Mvula

by StevShow on 9/27/13El Rey Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This beautiful woman sang to my soul. She skillfully ripped out my heart and sang to it. I never wanted the concert to end. This is what talent looks like folks. She has a beautiful voice. She's talented, she's sexy. She's commanding. She's elegant. A felling of pure joy blanketed the venue all night. The crowd she attracts reflects the music. Fun and friendly and stylish. The band was amazing! All of the musicians sang beautifully. I can't wait to experience her show again.

Laura Mvula is a transcendent artist. She is soulful, ethereal, and original. She loves what she's doing, and that affects everyone in the audience. In between songs, she is engaging, witty, and brilliant. Her band operates on the same frequency. One of the best shows I will ever see...

  • Laura Mvula is outstanding

by HogieATX on 9/20/13El Rey Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was the 8th time I've seen Laura Mvula live, starting at SXSW. I've followed her to NY, LA, SF, and she never disappoints. Her shows keep getting better and better.

  • Outstanding Laura

by WinterDreams on 9/9/13Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I stood at the very front and waited patiently for what I knew would be a fantastic event- and I was not mistaken. Ms. Mvula's voice was like a fine tuned instrument, always on and always amazing. Her unique timber was evident and assured me that it was not processed in a studio. Her band was inspiring. I loved the classical instruments and the harmonies that seemed to burst in your heart the way the flavor of a cake or particular food would colorfully burst in your palate. I am not one for concerts but for the price this was a steal to witness such talent up close, especially in this dry waste land in the music industry. She performed so many sets and even got very emotional, and looked about to cry when singing Father Father. Her in between sets banter was so cute and quirky, kind of how I would imaging speaking to her would be. Cool show, cool artist and I hope to see more exposure and success for her and no loss of the original talent and music inspiration I saw that night.

  • Laura Mvula and her Band...Electric!!!

by Anonymous on 9/8/13Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

I honestly didn't know what to really expect from British Songstress Laura Mvula. I admit...I wasn't too familiar with her work other than a few songs I knew which I liked very much. I was undecided about going to see her...until the ladies of KING announced they were on the bill. Then,I was sold. I had seen KING before at a previous event at Central Park Summer Stage upon their introduction to the world. They were a bit unpolished and a tad nervous, then. All that was gone. These ladies blossomed to the performers they were meant to be. At that point,I was ready to go...but I thought let me stay a while longer and see Laura Mvula perform a bit. From the intro,I was hypnotized. Intricate subtleties and raw power flowed seamlessly from one song to the next. Classically trained, she knew how to perform. But her secret weapon was her band. They were a six piece set, including Ms. Mvula, that resonated with the massiveness of an entire orchestra. i was thoroughly impressed and stupefied in my haste to depart so soon. Serves me right. i will not make that mistake about Ms. Mvula ever again. And neither should you. - Henry V. , Manhattan

  • POOR SOUND SYSTEM

by KandiKane26 on 9/7/13Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

Laura & her band, proved to deliver an intimate, concert showcasing her lovely voice. I love her music and style ... so unique and beautiful. King, the opening act also great ; how ever I could not hear anything due to the loud, pounding, base. I was sitting upstairs and the couple next to me .. clearly not happy with the poor sound. I went down to the sound guys and mentioned the problem ( some improvement when Laura's band arrived on stage). I made the best of the situation but was very disappointing with the sound ( upstairs).

  • A legend in the making

by dakillabee13 on 9/7/13Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Simply amazing! This was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Laura is such a breathe of fresh air. Her set was perfect and the whole show was just moving. I would have paid a lot more to go to a concert this great. Catch her before she blows up bigger than Adele/Amy.

  • Excellent show!

Wonderful concert! High level of musicianship and songwriting. She's a star. The band is tight and it all sounded sounded great. She's the real deal

  • Laura was worth the wait!

by sportjob on 5/28/13The Sinclair - CambridgeRating: 5 out of 5

We waited for over 90 minutes for Laura to finally appear onstage, and there are not many performers that I can say that it was well worth waiting for. She was incredible, displaying a vocal range that was truly special. Her band filled the venue, which was quite impressive as well. Thank you for a special night at The Sinclair!

Absolutely astonishing. Loved her. Only wish the set could have been longer. Two encores were not enough!

  • Mvula was spot on!

by cilji on 5/23/13The Sinclair - CambridgeRating: 5 out of 5

I'll keep this simple. Laura Mvula was wonderful. Her band, which included upright bass, trumpet, violin and harp was amazing. Sinclair as a venue was stellar--so civilized, intimate, special.

  • Laura Mvula was other worldly

by emeesee on 5/23/13The Sinclair - CambridgeRating: 5 out of 5

Laura's in person performance exceeds her CD. She performed at the Sinclair in Harvard Square -- a new performance venue (intimate, clean, awesome acoustics, great views of stage from all angles). The unfortunate thing: there was only one show! Her siblings perform with her (also amazing musicians). Her brother plays the cello. Her sister plays the violin. James, her brother, told me they're planning to return to the area in September. Laura was incredibly gracious and liberally dispensed hugs and conversation after the show. She also has fun style -- she wore turquoise suede platform/stilettos. Super lovely.

  • Excellent show

She is a phenomenal singer Great vocals, awesome band, nice mix with the strings instruments and bras. Her interaction with the audience is quite good too.

  • Laura Mvula--Unique extraordinary talent

    by JAMO7 on 5/22/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Laura Mvula is a talent to be reckoned with. Six part harmonies, strong melodies, three piece string section, memorable lyrics. Her songs are layered, at one level great pop, and another level complex chording and harmonic structures. She has an engaging stage presence. Catch her soon on her way up.

love her, therefore i loved the show. Wish she stayed on longer. I didnt like that she came on later than she was originally scheduled. also wished the area could have been bigger.

  • by Anonymous on 5/22/13Bowery Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The tickets indicated that doors opened at 7:30 but did not specify that the opening act did not go on until 9:30. That lapse in information created a significant inconvenience. Aside from the miscommunication the show was amazing. Laura Mvula was brilliant!

  • Laura Mvula is a true talent!

by Tangawizi on 5/21/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Laura Mvula's performance gave me shivers! Her musicians playing every kind of string instrument were incredible. Laura was sassy, soulful, humble and warm...you got a sense you were watching something really special, especially in a venue as intimate as the Birchmere. Venue itself was a little too cold. Wine wasn't great. Food looked worse. All in all, I didn't love it....but in a way, it really didn't matter with the magic on the stage.
