About

A Chicago original and international hit, LATE NITE CATECHISM started in a Chicago storefront theater in 1993, and is still going strong.
Call it Carol Burnett meets Whoopi Goldberg. This interactive comedy is part catechism class, part stand-up routine. Since its beginning, LATE NITE CATECHISM has been performed in almost every major U.S. city, plus has done successful stints in Australia, England, Ireland, Canada, and Malaysia.
The New York Times calls it, "hilarious, well-written and inspired." Jeffrey Lyons from TV’s Sneak Previews calls LATE NITE CATECHISM "something to savor and enjoy....one of the most intimate, rewarding shows in town."
The role of Sister, the wise-cracking, lovable character of LATE NITE CATECHISM, was created in 1993 by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan, both products of the Catholic school system.
Among the many reviews it has received, the New York Times called LATE NITE CATECHISM “hilarious, well-written, and inspired,” the Chicago Reader called it “gloriously funny,” and the Catholic Explorer called it “a habit-forming hoot!”
Schools and parishes throughout the United States have used all of these shows as a way of raising much-needed money to balance their budgets. In addition, the shows are used to help raise retirement funds for Sisters. Since the collections started, LATE NITE CATECHISM has generated donations of well over $3 million, which has been sent to various orders of nuns throughout the United States.

    A Nun Havin' Fun!!!!

by JoeyDR on 1/14/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

I had no idea what to expect when I bought the tickets, but was pleasantly surprised to see that the show was a one woman comedy and quite enjoyable. The comedy was appropriate for all ages. Highly recommended!!!!!

    Late Nite Catechism

You don't need to be Catholic to enjoy Late Nite Catechism (but it helps). Quite a few big laughs, and I really enjoyed the interactive format.

Fun and not so late night.

by Genere on 11/19/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This show was a lot of fun. It was interesting, generated laughs, and some couriositiy too. You really felt like part of the production throughout the show, which greatly enhances the experience. Towards the end, however, the novelty starts to wear down and the play concludes leaving you satisfied -- not wanting more or less. The 5pm show ends relatively early leaving time to diversify the night with food and drinks after the show.

by Kellbell77 on 11/19/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Sister was great! Audience becomes there own jokes in this storyline. Reminded me of my time in catholic school. Highly recommend to anyone but keep an open mind! 5 stars and can't wait to see it again!

    Catholic fun

by CousinFun on 11/13/13Royal George Theater - Chicago

Our group of 8 cousins attended the 5:00 show and had a ball! We all grew up Catholic, with most of us attending Catholic schools. The humor was great, the audience interaction was especially enjoyable. Several of us were "called out" by Sister. It was light humor that didn't offend, which we all really appreciated.

Funny, but could have been funnier considering...

by InWithTheChin on 10/2/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

It was an ok show. Funny enough but I thought it would be funnier considering all the funny adult-type (i.e., "blue") things that can be said about the Catholic Church.

    Somewhat Funny

by 630Lisabee on 9/3/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

One person liked it one person didn't. I was not raised Catholic but my husband was. I think it is better for you to have gone to catholic school to appreciate the humor but the show was done well enough that it was still funny. Oddly enough, I enjoyed it more than my husband. Very audience interactive. But the second act sort of fizzled with the q&a.

    Late Nite Catechism

by ghlt on 8/14/13Lake Charles Civic Ctr Rosa Hart Theatre - Lake Charles

Well done, Presentation good. Sound, at times, was poor. Material was appropriate to the event. "Special Collection" poorly handled. With construction/repair going on at the West door, safety was not considered!

Very funny - lots of fun laughs about the Catholic Church, but with respect. It's obvious that the actress loves the Catholic Faith, nothing offensive

    Overpriced in comparison!!!!

by Mickip13 on 6/29/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Small crowd! 17 to be exact which I'm sure impacted laughs due to participation. Definitely brought up some fond memories of attending Catholic School! Sure hope the request for donations at the end for retired nuns was legit! Requested a picture with "Sister" after the show which she did out of obligation I'm sure! Very unfriendly-walked away without a word! Wish we had spent the same amount for another show at Second City!

    Great evening of laughs

by VJSM on 6/20/13Royal George Theater - Chicago

This is our second time seeing this show. We brought friends from out of state and we LAUGHED! You don't have to be raised in Catholic schools to find this show hilarious. Highly recommend to anyone.

Late Nite good for non-Catholic also.

by Lighty on 5/25/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Actress did a great job even if there were only 12 people in the audience. Made us all laugh multiple times. Hard to do without the energy of more people. She got ALL of our names and kept referring to us by name even as we left the theater. She turned a production into an intimate comedy gathering. Good for her!

If you want to laugh .... the good kind of laugh.

by PatrickOfSheridanRd on 5/6/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Late Nite Catechism, Royal George on Halstead, is one-of-a-kind . The humor, the personal interaction, the sense of love and laughter and reflection is high. Cozy studio "classroom". If you are feeling bold, reserve your seats in the front row. Doesn't matter. If you're out of line, the nun will find you. Just a brilliant, funny, clever and remarkable show. Highly recommended ! ! ! Arrive early for parking, or, we successfully parked down the street a ways, and took a cab the rest of the way ! Lots of cabs available in the area.

Fantastic show for anyone who has experienced Catholic schools - I was brought to the front of the class for inappropriate attire and my skirt was measured! Brought me back to high school. Definitely recommend!
