About Las Vegas Motor Speedway

For even faster times in Sin City, head a few miles northeast of the Strip, to the far corner of the Las Vegas Valley. There you'll find the 1,200-acre motorsports complex known as the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The speedway, which now features nine different racetracks, is a relatively new addition to the American motorsports scene, but it's become a destination for racing fans in short order. At various points on the calendar, it is home to NASCAR's top racing series, NASCAR's pickup truck racing series, and NHRA drag racing, among other events.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway History

The speedway's roots go back to 1972 when the Las Vegas Speedrome opened. A road course and drag strip, the Speedrome added a short track in 1985. Eleven years later, Ralph Engelstad of what was then the Imperial Palace and Casino joined up with William Bennett of the Sahara Hotel to build a $72 million superspeedway on the site of the Speedrome. IndyCar driver Richie Hearn christened the shiny new digs with a victory in the Las Vegas 500K. Two years later, NASCAR's cup series came to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The inaugural race, the Las Vegas 400, was won by Mark Martin, with 120,000 people in attendance. As of 2020, Jimmie Johnson held the track record for Cup Series victories with four.

Visitors to Las Vegas Motor Speedway should be sure to check out the Neon Garage, an interactive fan zone known in racing circles as "NASCAR's Disneyland." It's located in the center of the speedway's infield and features concession stands, live music, the Winner's Circle, and up-close-and-personal access to drivers and their race teams. Lucky fans might come away with a souvenir lug nut. Beyond racing events, the speedway also offers a variety of driving "experiences" for car lovers who want to get behind the wheel themselves.

by TechMN on 4/18/23Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

I love big loud things. Nothing could have prepared me for the Top Fuel passes.. It shakes the bleachers, it pounds your chest, it blurs your vision. There's no other time in your life you are near somethint so powerful! Quite an experience.

    It’s a Drag

by Wacko on 4/17/23Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

The Drags races were real good as always. The pits were fun to hang out in and Music by a tribute to Jonny Cash! The track food was really good this year. More Taco selections, Asia selections. And one Killer Cheese Steak sandwich. Yummy Ice Cream for dessert. Or just cuz!

    Fast

by Mr. Free on 4/17/23Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

Although I have been to several race tracks and grew up with 3 of them in driving distance LVMS just seems to be more equipped to get the traffic in and out in a smooth manner. I'm glad to see that there are now many food choices again although I believe the prices are a little outrageous. They could use better WIFI since you are out in the desert and the connection aren't that great. Took me a long time to pull up the tickets since there are no longer paper ones. Also FS1 should do a better job of announcing. Drag racing has been and now even more popular yet doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Great races but not at the food trucks !

by V. T. on 11/6/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

Our second annual trip to NHRA was exciting and fun. Enjoyed walking around the pit area and getting autograph from Robert Hight. The weather was great and the races were exciting and impressive. The three star max rating is due to the disappointing, over-rated and over priced meal options. We selected two cheeseburgers, two fries and two bottles of water. The burgers and fries were lukewarm and they did not melt the cheese on the burgers! The pictures on the menu showed burgers would include tomatoes, lettuce and onions. They had nothing to offer but lettuce and were out of tomatoes! They had no pickles either. The bill came to $46 and change. They would not accept cash and forced to use debit or credit card. The girl took my email address but never sent a receipt over! This total ripoff came close to ruining our day. We are locals that will bring food from home next time!

    Las vegas drag race

by Matt on 11/1/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

Had a great time at the race. Very nice facility. Getting back into las vegas was a little expensive "in my opinion" after the race. It was $30.00 to get an UBER to the race and $90.00 to get back to town after the race. I think 🤔 I'll rent a car next time .

by Skooter on 11/1/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

It was a first time experience for me. Service for the handicap from parking area to the speedway was totally great. Didn’t have to walk the long distance!

    Fun but overpriced

by Sara on 11/1/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

I really enjoyed our time at the track, it was a nice facility and i liked that you could get closer than just being in the stands. Everything was really overpriced though, i paid $18 for a corndog! The beers were $14, I also didnt like that they were cashless. Other than that we had a really good time.

One of the absolute best NHRA races I have been to!

by Bo on 11/1/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

Great seats "F" Section 21 st row. Glad we wore ear plugs and our gun ear muffs! The concussion from the Top Fuel was amazing. Super Stock was really impressive as well as the motorcycle racing. Only wish they had a score board of sorts to keep track of the drivers standings as well.

Races Great! Track facilities not so good.

by Drag Race Fan on 11/1/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

This track has so much potential but the problems they have are big. First, the scoreboard is way too small and can't be seen well from areas at the strip. Second, the announcers try to talk during the burnouts and cannot be heard! Third, the NHRA needs to update the scoreboard with relevant information about the drivers, standings, times, etc as they are often not known from race to race. Come on NHRA, get it together.

The drags are awesome- more fun with 4 lanes

by Patti on 11/1/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

The only suggestion would be some kind of shade over the seating. Gets a little hot here in Vegas and skin cancer is serious.

    4 wide

by Mikey on 4/15/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

If you haven't seen four wide racing you better check it out it's awesome. Everything at the Vegas track was great, crazy prices for food and drinks but what else would you expect from Vegas. Parking was good and it didn't take long to get out of the event. Lots of fun.

We loved it! 1st time at Four Way racing!

by Ghostdog52 on 4/7/22Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

Been 12 years since at a live event, and loved every minute. Was tough trying to get drivers to sign on Friday. I did get 3. John Jorce, Britney Force, and Greg Anderson. Am so disappointed with crew membersber for Atron, after servicing his dragster, ignoring people that stood there waiting patiently for Atron to come out to us, and never did. Found the same thing going on at other driver's pits.
