About

Lane 8 on Tour

When you go to a Lane 8 concert, expect to tuck your phones away and be fully immersed in the experience. Daniel Goldstein, the man behind the moniker, is determined to bring community and carefreeness back into dance clubs with his dreamy, melodic house music. After finding a wider audience when he signed to Above & Beyond's label Anjunadeep in 2013, the DJ and producer took his career into his own hands, creating an event series called This Never Happened. At each show, attendees are not allowed to take photos or videos. Phone cameras are covered with branded This Never Happened tape when you enter the venue to prevent any temptation of capturing a digital memory. For Goldstein, this is a way to ensure everyone in the room is committed to connecting with the music — and each other. The idea has proven to be a successful one: Lane 8's 2020 Brightest Lights shows have sold more tickets than any of his previous tours.

Lane 8 in Concert

Lane 8 has gone through a long and fruitful evolution over the years — going all the way back to the days when musician Daniel Goldstein was a kid in California making garage rock with his sister. The young artist expanded his tastes into hip-hop, making beats by the age of 13, before transitioning into dance music as he attended clubs in college. Goldstein started his professional life as a geologist but was able to focus on music full-time when he moved to Germany with his wife. As Lane 8, the DJ and producer crafts smooth, pop-minded house music that gently prods the mind and body into a state of euphoria. After he began uploading his tracks and remixes online, he found a home at Above & Beyond's Anjunadeep label in 2013. Two years later, he released his debut album, Rise, which got a boost from guest vocalists including Matthew Dear, Lulu James, Solomon Grey and Patrick Baker. Next up, Goldstein put his full attention on launching his own label and event concept called This Never Happened. Under this name, he kicked off a series of shows that had one clear rule: No photos or videos allowed. In 2018, he invited Minneapolis synth-pop band Poliça and Australian artist Fractures to join on select tracks for his next album, Little by Little, released on his own label. Goldstein returned two years later with Brightest Lights, bringing back Poliça to collaborate on songs, along with British trio Arctic Lake and L.A.-based musicians Kauf and Nevve.

Lane 8 sent me into an absolute watermelon wormhole and was arguably one of my favorite shows of 2022. I’ve been waiting since 2020 to see this show and it did NOT disappoint :)

Lane 8 at Fillmore Charlotte NC

by Guy on 3/27/22The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

Lane 8 is a great artist and did a pretty good job bringing his sound (a few muddled and misplaced mixes). The Fillmore is a very professionally run venue with a mostly friendly staff. The corporate soul of the venue becomes clear after about fifteen minutes in and keeps the venue from being a beloved and legendary venue. The sound was not balanced at this show in particular and in general they could use more bolstered & even sound throughout the venue. I have seen roughly twenty shows here since its inception and have been watching live music for over thirty five years. It’s my wife and my favorite things gs to do. The Fillmore is a perfectly fine venue to see a band but always leaves me wanting more and slightly disappointed. I have seen many artists perform on the same tours at different venues and The Fillmore just always feels sterile, devoid of soul and any genuinely lovable traits. It’s like the Applebees of music venues. One thing that always bugs me is the screens displaying ads for upcoming shows, they are distracting, tacky and unnecessary. Drinks are fine but a little pricey. I’ll be back but only because I don’t really have a choice….thanks Ticketmaster.

    No coatcheck

    by Q on 3/14/22Echostage - Washington

Kind of ridiculous how there was no coatcheck - otherwise the show was great. Hoping this was a mistake.

    Oversold/too crowded

by Meh on 3/14/22Echostage - Washington

Lane 8 and the opener themselves were good, but the venue was way over crowded and oversold. Everyone was packed like sardines and it was difficult to get drinks, go to the bathroom, or move around. If you did go to the bathroom or get a drink, it was impossible to get back to your group without having to shove your way through and spill your drinks. I've been to many shows at this venue and I have never felt/seen it this packed. The bar also had issues with cards and were asking for cash, an app like Roam to keeps tabs open would be faster and work way better instead of having to close out with each purchase.

The volume was way too low.

by Echo on 3/14/22Echostage - Washington

Echo is known for having one of the best sound systems and during Lane 8’s show, I was able to have full on conversations without the loss of my voice the next day. The volume was so low it took away from the beats, drops, melody, etc.

    LANE 8

by ULOO on 3/14/22Echostage - Washington

I do understand Lane 8's intent of us not having to pictures or videos during his show, I'd suggest he gives us a couple of minutes at least to take a picture or video before he starts. Hopes he listen to this suggestion.

    A must see show

    by A. C. on 3/12/22

Lane 8 was a completely different experience thanks to the no phone rule. It was an amazing show both visually and musically. Daniel never took a break and played for 3 hours. I would highly recommend his show.

    Epic!

by Charlotte on 9/14/21Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

It was a great and fun night with my BF! We both enjoyed it so much that we’d love to see lane 8 live again!! Although there was a small incident where the channel stopped working, Daniel was able to switched to other channels and kept the concert going! We just admired how calm and collective he was and he was able to bounce back and created a wonderful night for everyone!!

    Lane 8, better than great

by SPF on 2/4/20Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Fantastic concert. My first time listening live to Lane 8. Introduced by our son. I might have been the oldest person in the room, based on questions from 2 concert goers. “ Is he your son?”, referring to Daniel G (Lane 8). Next, “Do you like this music?”, answer, “YES, I would not be here if I did not” Very funny. Made us laugh.

Amazing vibes, the venue was a perfect size for this show. Pretty good sound system and the crowd was completely engaged, especially due to the 'no phones' policy.
