About

LA Galaxy History

The LA Galaxy have been playing since Major League Soccer launched in 1996. After topping the Western Conference in the league’s inaugural season, the Galaxy led the conference twice more before they clinched their first MLS Cup in 2002 against the New England Revolution. History would repeat itself in 2005, when they emerged victorious over the Revolution for their second MLS Cup.

From 2007 to 2012, British football legend David Beckham joined the Galaxy, and in short order, pushed the club to two MLS Cup victories, in 2011 and 2012. Even after Beckham's departure, the Galaxy continued to shine. After winning the Cup over the Revolution again in 2014, the Galaxy became the first team in the league to nab the championship five times. The Galaxy furthered their league championship record with a sixth MLS Cup win in 2024. Overall, the LA Galaxy have earned four Supporters’ Shields, two U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Among the Galaxy’s alumni are three MLS MVP winners: Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2009) and Robbie Keane (2014). In 2015, the award was renamed the Landon Donovan MVP Award to honor the decorated All-Star midfielder’s career. Donovan also earned the Golden Boot as the league’s leading scorer in 2008.

In 2023, the Galaxy helped set the MLS single match attendance record at 82,110 in an annual "El Tráfico" rivalry match against Los Angeles FC at the Rose Bowl on July 4.

  • Galaxy got robbed!

by Sweetannie on 3/28/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

The refs recalled a goal they shouldn't have. Final score should have been Galaxy 2, New England 1.

The weather was not good, but we had great seats, good game.

  • Horrible

by dogfunk on 3/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 1 out of 5

Can't beleive the game still went on! the ponchos DID NOT CUT IT! What a miserable time my family and I had. I feel like I was ripped off and payed $300.00 to sit in hurricane weather and not have any sort of compensation. I will never see a Galaxy game again with my little brother and he lives soccer. I will also recommend that no one else go to a game.

  • Raining but still AWESOME!!!!

by Cstllns on 3/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 5 out of 5

Even though it was raining, the game was awesome. The atmosphere is great and any seat at the Home Depot Center is a good seat. Soccer fan or not, you will enjoy the game.

Parking stinks. Generally unhelpful staff. Home depot center website is useless.

  • by Anonymous on 3/22/11The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

The campus clearly has the space, the home depot center needs to invest in a massive parking garage. They also need to work with the city on light sequencing and better/quicker freeway access.

  • The Galaxy Conference Final was Awesome!!

by PabloU2 on 11/17/10The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

Why was the game awesome? Because of the Galaxy fans. I took my 14 month old daughter to the game and she was dancing and jumping all the time together with the fans. Also the Home Depot center is an excellent venue to watch soccer. I gave 4 stars only because the Galaxy team lost and played very slow. But the venue was amazing. My daughter is now a soccer fan.

  • Awesome

Galaxy sucked, but the game was awesome. Dallas totally deserved the game. The seats were perfect too.

Great seats. Great playoff atmosphere. Phenomenal experience.

  • Galaxy plays clean...no game!

by Cageychic on 11/16/10The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 1 out of 5

I think that Galaxy has no defence, and they play too much by the rules. You want to win? Get a little bit more agressive even if is not by the rules.

  • by p2meas on 11/16/10The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 4 out of 5

parking was $15 and there was plenty of parking in the back of HDC. parking control did a very good job in directing the traffic and yes...there was alot of cars Miss the start of the game but fully enjoyed the event .

  • AWEFUL PARKING EXPERIENCE!

by OCGalaxyFan on 11/16/10The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 1 out of 5

Took us 30 minutes from University to main entrance on Avalon. Everyone cutting in, making u-turns in front of you.. and no police presence! VERY Frustrating when you are trying to obey traffic laws and everyone around you doesn't. AND, after the game, same story, it took us 45 minutes to leave the parking lot as everyone was completelly stopped. WE WILL NEVER GO TO THE HOME DEPOT CENTER AGAIN.

  • Galaxy goalie was more than disappointing.

by AuntieClueless on 11/16/10The Home Depot Center - CarsonRating: 1 out of 5

With a team like the Galaxy, I can't believe they lost 3-0. They played a fabulous first half and took many shots on Kevin Hartman, He's an excellent goalie who Galaxy should have traded to Dallas in the first place. Galaxy's goalie Ricketts on the other hand just stood and watched balls go by him. It was horrible. He didn't even try to make it look like he was making an attempt to stop anything coming his way. Huge disappointment!
