About

LA Clippers History

The Clippers joined the NBA in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, an expansion team located in Buffalo, N.Y. The franchise selected future star forward Bob McAdoo in 1972 with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft. He was named NBA MVP in the 1974–75 season, and remains the only player in the history of the Clippers franchise to win that honor.

The franchise, led by new owner Irv Levin, moved to San Diego in 1978 and was renamed as the Clippers. The franchise's stay in San Diego didn't last long. Levin sold the team to Donald Sterling in 1981, and he moved the franchise 120 miles north to Los Angeles.

The Clippers began their best era of success in 2010, when they drafted Blake Griffin with the No. 1 overall pick. One season later, they acquired Chris Paul in a trade with the New Orleans Hornets, and "Lob City" was born. They advanced to the second round of the playoffs that same season, recording their second playoff series win in 36 years. The Clippers followed that by setting a new franchise record with 56 wins in the 2012–13 season, which began a streak of five consecutive seasons with 50 or more wins and a playoff berth.

During the 2022–23 season, the Clippers, led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, again returned to the playoffs. They fell to the Suns in the first round.

by Purpleliscious on 11/27/13STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

The game was good. It's the seats I wish we're more comfortable. Though I Did not purchased good seats the seats seemed the same almost across entire stadium.

  • Clippers - Fun for the whole family!!!

    by LAcorona2012 on 11/26/13STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great time with the family. It's important to try and keep tickets costs at a level that allows families to see a game without breaking the bank or having to get a second mortgage. We were in the 300s but still able to see the game and have a great time.

The Brooklyn Nets play the LA Clippers ONLY once in LA per Season. They had played the previous Night in Phoenix. 4 of the 5 Starters did NOT!!! suit up and play- a complete!! rip-off of my hard earned $s. Expensive Tix= No P.Pierce,K.Garnett,D.Williams & B.Lopez- all NBA All-stars. Btw, Pierce,Garnett and Lopez played!!!! the next Net Game at HOME.

Durant did well but Chris Paul and his teammeats did even better. I think if Westbrook could do better, OKC could clinch the victory. Anyway, what a good game it is!

  • Clippers vs. Rockets

I have been a life-long Laker fan, and they say that you can't be both a Laker fan and a Clipper fan. I'm here to tell you that this is not true. Through the years as a Laker fan, I still took my son to at least 5 Clipper games a season for the past 12 years. It has been great to see the Clippers slowly but surely grow and improve to now be considered one of the elite teams in the NBA. In comparing the two experiences of attending Laker & Clipper games, I have to say that it so much more entertaining at a live Clipper game. I understand a respect the legacy of the legendary Laker teams, but Clippers find ways to make attending the games much more fun. It seems like you're at a party with friends at a Clipper game. Great energy in the building from start to finish, and I would highly recommend going to a game or two as soon as you can.

Although opening night landed on Halloween this year, the Clippers were highly motivated and the fans were energetic tonight. The seats in the house were not filled but I love coming to Clippers' games because of the atmosphere and energy created by the fans. Overall it was highly entertaining game. Since it was opening night, I saw a promising Clippers team for this upcoming season. There is definitely room for improvement from the players. After tonight, they can only improve from here on out. Also, Stephen Curry played well for the Golden State Warriors and it was satisfying to see him in action.

  • Epic game

by ThurstonDoster on 11/3/13STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the funnest live games I've been to. CP3 and Steph Curry both put on a clinic out there. And the three fastbreak lob dunks in a row to Blake Griffin really got the energy at Staples at an all time high. I love what Doc Rivers is doing with the team and would recommend any basketball fan go see the Clippers this year.

  • Clippers lost

by dbafox on 10/28/13STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

The seat was not where I expected it to be, There was a row in front of me. I can't believe I paid over $400 for a basketball game in the pre-season.

  • Friendly Staff!

    by PizzaMan50 on 10/27/13STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The night was enjoyable even with upper level seats. Outside area for snacks, drinks and looking out at the light show. A smoking area for cigarette smokers. Plenty of fresh air. LA CLIPPERS and the FAN PATROL were out to entertain with class and LA spirit. My guests and I Love the Staple Center. I noticed how clean everything is, even the bathroom floor! The staff, each and everyone were welcoming and friendly.
