About

Kota the Friend is a kid from Brooklyn that loves art. He burst onto the music scene in 2016, helmed by his well-received debut EP, Palm Tree Liquor, which garnered praise from industry staples such as Billboard, XXL, RESPECT. Mag, and many others. This was around the same time that the multihyphenate started to see success with his "Lyrics to GO" series, securing a fervent fanbase for his subtitled rap videos. But before Kota became the enigma that he is today, he was finding his way through Clinton Hill, consuming art on different levels. His gift is that he knows how to execute a vision, backed by a worldview that sees the bigger picture in all things. His seminal debut album, FOTO, has a soulful texture and was anointed as "one of the best hip-hop albums of 2019" by Rolling Stone. In 2020, the Brooklyn MC was riding high from the momentum of his critically acclaimed sophomore LP, EVERYTHING, which arrived during the isolating lockdown of the pandemic. The album went on to debut at No. 1 on the iTunes Hip-hop Chart, peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, and earned Kota his first entry on the Billboard 200. The following year was no different, with a presidential cosign leading Kota's campaign for greatness. His track, "Lupita's Interlude," was the first song on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' inauguration playlist, which was curated by Emmy Award-winning actress Issa Rae. Further, UPROXX crowned Kota "one of the most commercially viable indie artists since Chance The Rapper," which signaled a breakthrough 2021 for the lauded scribe. Last year was highlighted by his third studio album, MEMO; followed by 2023's Lyrics to GO, Vol. 4, and his 18-track opus To See a Sunset (Deluxe) with Statik Selektah. On top of all this, as an independent artist, Kota has amassed over 700M+ streams to date.

I hyped myself up too much

by kinmar on 10/30/23Buckhead Theatre - Atlanta

Kota’s music is hype. He’s been heavy in my rotation this whole year and has had two albums come out in that time but he really didn’t play either of those which was depressing.

    Amazing & Interactive

by Fns on 10/28/23Buckhead Theatre - Atlanta

The show was amazing, he performed all the fan favorites as well as many other songs from his discography. He was very interactive with the fans, even bringing a few on stage for the last song. It was great seeing him come out and show love to the city and all the people in it, definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever been to

    Amazing show and Super humble

    by J. Polanco on 7/19/23

I got to go to the To See A Sunset listening party and he was really interactive with his fans and even had some come up on stage with him. He's very passionate when he raps you can feel it in every song. After the party he took pictures with everyone there. He's a super humble guy and one of my favorite artists ever.

Amazing show full of amazing vibes

by Chris Lugo on 7/28/22Sony Hall - New York

There were a ton of openers and all of them brought their own energy and vibes. I got put on to new great music and artists. Had a great time with other strangers who were at the concert. Kota killed the show with his authentic self, awesome vibes, and great performance. Would love to do it again!

    Tired & disappointed

by Sahn on 7/26/22Sony Hall - New York

Doors opened at 6:00pm , show tickets showed 8:00pm start time. Granted all artists have openers before they perform but we arrived at 8:00 and waited until 10:30 close to 11:00pm and decided to just go home since it was just opener after opener after opened. All for promoting up and coming artists but next time please be clear on your agenda and have it stated on posted / tickets / whenever - the entry door ? So we know when is the appropriate time to show up. Standing in a crowd and waiting for 3 hours was just tiring and disappointing at that point even if I stayed long enough to see kota my energy levels wouldn’t have even been able to enjoy the show.
