About

KONGOS IN CONCERT:

South African-bred family band Kongos continues to gain fans around the globe with their boot-stomping sound and high-energy live performances. The band's four brothers possess an undeniable chemistry on stage, and their knowledge of both their craft and each other really shine as they tear through tracks like "Come With Me Now" and "I'm Only Joking". With their music receiving heavy radio airplay in the US and Canada, the boys of Kongos are ready and raring for another rollicking round of shows on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dylan, Daniel, Jesse, and Johnny Kongos were raised splitting time between London and South Africa. Their earliest exposure to music came via their singer-songwriter father, who  encouraged them to toy around with the instruments in his home studio. After relocating to their mother's hometown of Phoenix, AZ, they formed their namesake band and began to hone their sound.  They released their self-titled debut album in 2007, supporting the record with extensive touring that earned them a strong regional following. They released their sophomore album Lunatic in their native South Africa in 2011, topping several charts in that country with the single "I'm Only Joking". The album was released in the US in 2013 and fared equally well, earning them their first stateside No. 1 with the anthemic hit "Come With Me Now". A phenomenally talented act with big things on the horizon, Kongos continues to floor ticket buyers around the country with their must-see performances on tour.

This was a GREAT concert & it was FREE!

by FredZombie69 on 7/24/16Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

Sadly we missed the band Wild Wild due to heavy traffic in the city & detours. We did see the band Bleached which was Awesome. Then the band the Arkelles played next & they were really good. Next was the Stumbellas who were unforgettable. After they were done playing they did a meet and greet under the big tent in the back. Anyone was allowed to enjoy this not just a select few which I think all bands should do at all concerts. My 3 kids (Ages: 13, 10 & 8) took some pics with them & they told me that "they were a very nice band". The closing band was the KONGOS which finished out a great day of fun at Festival Pier. The only 2 things that were disappointing were the Stumbellas didn't have any XL tshirts to sell so I could have gotten it signed. Next when we tried to use the 5 tickets we had to get in they said that only 3 were valid. Maybe if the boxes that they scan in had numbers underneath then someone would know that they printed the same ticket twice but they didn't. Thank goodness for the kindness of a stranger who had a spare set of tickets & gave them to us.

    Kongos Block Party Rocked!!

by WhiteHouseMom on 7/13/16Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

The July Block Party was great! As usual, the Kongos were amazing! The only complaint I have were the body surfers-too much distraction from the great music.

    Radio 104.5 never disappoints

by Brklynn123 on 7/13/16Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

It was an awesome day with my friends and of course the Wild Wild, Bleached, Arkells, the Strumbellas, and Kongos put on a great show. If you haven't gone to a Radio 104.5 Block Party I definitely recommend going because you get to see some awesome bands for free.

    A banger dude

by Jjtredy on 7/13/16Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

This concert was amazingly enjoyable and an overall good time. The vibes I got from it were Extremely positive and accepting. All of the workers there were helpful and so friendly, the venue was incredible. The bands that played, even though knowing none of them, made me want to listen to their music, especially the ARKELLs 24/7. I was able to have one of the best times of my life and I made tons of new and awesome friends! I can NOT wait to come to either the August or September show and have a blast again!

    I LOVE THE ARKELLS

by liveforlivemusic96 on 7/13/16Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

I love the Radio 104.5 block parties. Even if I don't know all the bands it's a great way to hang out with my friends and discover new music. I love the Jessie's paint parties and this time Max from the Arkells let us put paint kn him too!!! The Arkells were the one band that day I was dying to see and they did not disappoint. Overall, I had a great time at the show and so did my friends.

    Another awesome block party

by duke02 on 7/13/16Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

Radio 104.5 never dissapoints in any of the summer block parties that i have attended. I had never seen the arkells and what a performance. And the strombellas did not let you down again didnt know what to expect since they are a new band and you dont know what to expect and the headliners the kongos my 2nd time seeing them and again even though it was outside blew the roof off. I dont think that there was anyone that was not jumping around and dancing during the whole entire set.

Overpriced drinks aside, great show. Arkells are great live, Strumbellas were solid, Kongos were very high energy

Caters to a young crowd. Too long between sets. Typical over-priced concessions with poor selection.

Strums were amazing, but didn't play long enough

by RP76 on 7/13/16Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

The festival was cool but the turnaround for the bands was too fast. I didn't get to hear nearly as many songs as they normally play.

    Kongos were amazing!

by LUVKAHLUA on 3/27/15Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside

The crowd was small, couple hundred people, but that made it even more personal and fun! Meeting the band was great! Wish there was more merch to purchase. The bars weren't ready to serve until well into the show, so of course not wanting to lose my spot, I didn't purchase any drinks. The sound was distorted at times, but it didn't matter because Kongos were awesome anyway!!

    Something Witty

by soarinlauren on 3/20/15Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside

Despite the venue being a bit too large for the crowd, we all had a great time! We hadn't heard of Colony House before the concert, and were pleasantly surprised! Always great to discover a new band. Sir Sly was great, of course. Enjoyed the KONGOS light show/giant smoke rings. Too cool. Only complaint was that we were dying of thirst, disliked having to make the trek downstairs to get to the water fountain.

    great show!

by SincerelyT on 3/18/15Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside

I can't believe there weren't more people there. Both opening bands were really very good and The Kongos put on an excellent show. The venue was nice too. Great music, good time! I'll be sure to see any or all of them again.

Sir Sly was incredible. Every song they did was a treat. They are going to be BIG! They are from LA and I hope to see them in a small venue concert soon. Kongos were very good. All that I expected.

The Bass in the Venue was Terrible

by DNS66 on 3/15/15Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside

The show would have been fantastic if the bass had not overpowered everything else. I could just barely hear the vocals, the accordion, and the guitars. This was a huge problem during the Kongos' set; not so much so with the other two bands. Someone told me the bass is turned up because the kids like it. This was not a punk or hip-hop show. The Kongos need balanced properly to sound good. The tour needs a sound man that is mature enough to balance everything to make the band sound the best they can, not just what a bunch of 15 year-olds might want. I am glad I had paid extra to hear the Kongos acoustic set. Their voices blend beautifully. I rate the stage show music 1 star because of the overpowering bass; everything else 5 stars.
