About Knoxville Ice Bears
Knoxville Ice Bears at Knoxville Civic Coliseum
The Knoxville Ice Bears hit the ice for another exciting season in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Knoxville Ice Bears play out of the General James White Memorial Civic Auditorium and Coliseum (usually shortened to Knoxville Civic Coliseum), which opened in 1961 and has a capacity of 5,937. Coach Jeff Carr replaced Mike Craigen before the beginning of the 2017-18 season. The Ice Bears are one of five teams playing in the SPHL, including the Birmingham Bulls, the Huntsville Havoc, the Macon Mayhem and the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
History of the Knoxville Ice Bears
The Marble City has had a decades-long love affair with hockey, with the Knoxville Knights playing in the Eastern Hockey League from 1961 to 1968, and the Knoxville Cherokees of the East Coast Hockey League from 1988 to 1997. Mike Murray was the Cherokees’ all-time leader in points, goals and assists before becoming the Ice Bears’ general manager in 2006. The Knoxville Speed of the United Hockey League played from 1999 until 2002, after which the Ice Bears were founded as a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. After one season, the ACHL split into the SEHL (of which the Ice Bears were a member) and WHA 2, with the surviving teams from each league rejoining for the 2004-05 season as the Southern Professional Hockey League.
The Knoxville Ice Bears have been the most successful franchise by far in the SPHL, winning President’s Cup championships in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2015, and William B. Coffey trophies as the team with the best regular-season record in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. UFC fighter Scott “Hot Sauce” Holtzman, who hails from Knoxville, played two games with the Ice Bears in the 2007-08 season, before pursuing a career in mixed martial arts.

Chairs are hard and out dated. Bag check employee was rude! This place is below standards for any event.
Toy car racing was pretty funny. As was the hot dog race. I think you should have adults don those costumes (hot dog, pretzel, popcorn, etc) to race. Now THAT would be super funny. Just great. Personal. Up close. If you leave your credit card at the bar, they actually CALL OUT YOUR NAME!!!! That wouldn’t happen everywhere. Yep, good work. The ads are cute, music is good. I can’t think of anything I’d change. Thank you for making me laugh and have fun from beginning to end on a really dark day. Oh and by the way, hockey is fun. So fast. Ice Bears ROCK!!!!!
I was never into hockey. A friend from work invited my wife and I and I really enjoyed it. Ive already been to two more games, and will more than likely be at the next one. Also debating on getting a memBearship for next season. Really enjoying the hockey games
Ice Bear games are always entertaining and fun! Win or lose, the experience is well planned for fun for the whole family.
We came with friends and ran into other friends to watch the Ice Bears and to see Mayor Glenn Jacobs in action. We will be back!!!
The game was great there isn’t a bad seat anywhere lol n the arena and it’s very interactive. Would definitely go again and plan too many times next season
The staff and team are always very friendly and accommodating. All in all it’s a wonderful experience and I will continue to provide my business to this franchise in of itself
I missed a period of hockey waiting to get a burger basket. Not enough locations for quality food. Settled for hot and popcorn
Hockey is about as good as you will find. Guys playing their hearts out. Great intermission engagement activities, such as the puck toss for gift cards. The silent auction downstairs was neat. The food is better than the average game food. Excellent view of hockey game that you do not get in arena hockey. Crowd is extremely engaging.
Our first experience in Coliseum and an IceBear game. My only complaint is not enough accommodations for handicapped.Everything else was awesome! We had a great time and a wonderful experience! We will definitely come back.
The game was interesting and we won which is a major plus. Loved the peanuts theme. It is one of my favorite cartoons.
Great crowd enthusiasm, the Ice Bears won and we definitely will be going again.
Love the icebears and the facility itself. They are very kind and GO KIB!
Great hometown game. Closer to the players. Could use bigger area for merchandise shop.
Great team. Great fans. Always a good time. Good for the whole family.
Me and my wife had a blast will be going back again
Super duper! Weiner dogs on ice made the night even better! Go ice bears! 🐻
Knoxville Ice Bears game is an absolute great time! The only thing that needs to happen is for Knoxville to upgrade the Coliseum.. the seating is at least 50 years old and frankly hurts after a while. But the Game, the Fans, the atmosphere is fantastic!
Easy in and out! Great game(wish the Ice Bears would have won!) Had wonderful seats, wonderful company and a most wonderful time for a fair price. Thank you!
