About

KINKY BOOTS is Broadway's huge-hearted, high-heeled hit! With songs by Grammy® and Tony® winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, this joyous musical celebration is about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind. Inspired by true events, KINKY BOOTS takes you from a gentlemen's shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan.

Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father's expectations and continue the family business of Price & Son. With the factory's future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.

With direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Hairspray) and a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), KINKY BOOTS is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography.

Take a step in the right direction and discover that sometimes the best way to fit in is to stand out. "There is no show hotter than KINKY BOOTS!" – CBS News

    Kinky Boots Marches On

by ARNNIE on 10/7/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

The audience loved the show. You could tell that the songs were by Cindi Lauper, because the best songs were for the female parts. Lauren's song was very realistic. Lola was fantastic. HOWEVER, the mail lead needs to be recast; he was not strong enought

Kinky Boots , Broadway Best Musical Bound !

by Springmaker on 10/7/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

With a touching book by Harvey Fierstein, stirring music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and top shelf singing and hoofing. This show is Broadway bound and Tony bound for Best Musical, period! First time I've witnessed a standing ovation at intermission.

    Kinky Boots is Great Entertainment

by CubsOptimist on 10/7/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Show is fairly faithful to the story line in the film. Loved Billy Porter's star turn as Lola. The rest of the cast is very strong too. Lots of energy and clever choreography and funny dialogue. Cyndi Lauper's score is wonderful. It's a joyful show with a positive message. I hope they have a great run on Broadway and garner some Tony Awards too.

    Kinky Boots is Tony Bound!

by ClareScott on 10/6/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Sitting in my seat about halfway through Act I I realized Cyndi Lauper was sitting right across from me taking notes and, star-struck as I am, I could not take my attention from the fabulous production that she and Harvey Fierstein have created. Her music is divine and took us on an emotional journey with the two main characters and left us on our feet clapping along to the finale with smiles on our faces and hearts warmed as every good musical should leave its audience. The cast is strong and diverse and committed to the story which is one of friendship and acceptance and tenacity. Billy Porter is, well, beautiful as any man could be and delivers a sure Tony nomination performance even this early on in the show's preview process. Stark Sands as Charlie is the vulnerable young man on a hero's journey and looks and plays the part so compellingly and realistically I often forgot I was watching a musical until he started singing with that gorgeous voice. Annaleigh Ashford was adorable and we were left wanting more from her after her comedic performance of the number "The History of Wrong Guys". The choreography by phenom Director/Choreographer Jerry Mitchell was so creative. I'll just say wait until you see what he does at the end of Act I. It's crazy good. The entire cast was really an ensemble and I cannot recommend this show highly enough. See it before it leaves Chicago in early November because when it gets to Broadway, it's going to be tough to get tix.

Kinky Boots: A fast-movingwith charm and warmth

by stagecoach1 on 10/6/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Although i did not leave with any memorable songs, I felt Kinky Boots displayed energy, great story telling, strong character songs and some great choreographic moments. So much traffic was happening on the stage that I was happy I sat in the dress circle so I could take it all in. There were no dull moments even with the heavy songs in some instances. At the end of the first act, I comented that hadn't had as much fun at a show since CRAZY FOR YOU. The break up of Lola and Sam was well done in a powerful scene. The songs were very appropriate for all the chanracters even the love interests. The only section was confusing was the end song when all the characters came onto the stage. I idn't know if it was a curtain call or a memory. The confusion came at the end, otherwise I thought the musical had all stron points. I kept asking myself if I would change anyhting, and, except for the end, I liked it the way it was. I lost myself in the story and characters and that is a tribute to the entire production team.

    Kinky Boots October 3rd

by divajoan on 10/6/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Very entertaining for the most part. With the transition from the movie to the musical, I must say that I did miss the songs during the Milan shoe fair from the movie. I guess that Cyndi Lauper's music was used, which makes sense for the musical, but it didn't have the punch of the medley, These Boots Are Made for Walking, Not in These Shoes, Cha Cha Heels, and Zippin' Up My Boots. Also, while I enjoyed the music for the production numbers, the solos by Charlie and by Lola were pretty much forgettable. Overall, I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Great show. Billy Porter is amazing, and Cyndi Lauper's score is fantastic. Highly recommend this show. Go see it and get the chance to see a show early in its development before it becomes a big hit on Broadway.

    LOVED it!!!!

by Lanakane on 10/6/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

I really really really enjoyed this show. I'm a fan of the movie so I couldn't wait to see the play. And it was really good. I do think it needs some tweaking here and there; for example, that 'father song' when both the main male characters are in the bathroom needs to be cut down. The song it was too long! And some other things should be revised. But overall it was good entertaining fast paced show. Totally recommended.

Kinky Boots: A work in progress

by EddieJC on 10/6/12Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

The show needs to be tightened up. A disappointing beginning to the first act. It needs more fun/exciting dialog and music. It was slow and ponderous. Celina Carvajal (Nicola) was the weakest of all the characters. Annaleigh Ashford (Lauren) was strong with acting and singing. She should have another song somewher in the show. StarkSands and Billy Porter were good and will get stronger as the show has more performances. All the actors needed to miked better for sound, especially for the soft dialog and songs. The "Angels" were really good and fun to weatch. They were totally in the show much to the audiences delight. All in all this has the potential to be a darned good show with a lot of laughs and good music. It would be interesting to see it when it is on Broadway and see if any changes were made.

Saw the show on its second night in Chicago and it was amazing! So exciting to see and hear a new show, new music. I expect Kinky Boots will be a long-running hit on Broadway!
