About

Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Houston, Texas, formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. By the summer of 2019, the trio had been on tour for nearly three-and-a-half years, playing to audiences across North and South America, Europe, and southeast Asia behind its acclaimed albums The Universe Smiles Upon You, Con Todo El Mundo, and Mordechai. Garnering glowing praise from The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, The FADER, Khruangbin released their very first remix album, Mordechai Remixes, on Dead Oceans, in association with Night Time Stories, Ltd in 2021. Each remixer on Mordechai Remixes has a musical or cosmic connection to Khruangbin and remixers included Kadhja Bonet, Ginger Root, Knxwledge, Natasha Diggs, Soul Clap, Quantic, Felix Dickinson, Ron Trent, Mang Dynasty, Harvey Sutherland. Khruangbin worked with Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, for two groundbreaking collaborative EPs, Texas Sun & Texas Moon. Further extending the lone star state's sonic possibilities, the sister EPs pensively examines Texas' musical perception, while paying homage to the marriage of country and R&B that's become synonymous with the region.

    Incredible Show!

by ejor on 3/8/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

Khruangbin puts on a really cool show - psychedelic, funky and rocking at the same time. The stage setup looks very sci-fi and the band sounded great. A highlight was their cover of Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness". You do not want to miss a Khruangbin show when they come to your town!

    Great show - weak venue

by Rich on 3/8/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

The band exceeded all of our expectations and the opening band had a great jazz vibe to it. All the people next to us at the show were great, which was good because they were very close. Place was packed, floors were sticky, staff was nice but we, personally, would have preferred it to be a little more open to dance and breathe.

I was really disappointed to see Aragon Ballroom wasn't actually checking vax cards. That was the main reason I felt comfortable coming to the show.

    Disappointed

by Hojo on 3/8/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

I was really looking forward to dancing to this very chill band. Unfortunately it was insanely crowded, hot, and no room to move. A girl even passed out in front of me. I finally moved to where I had room to breath and move 5inches in either direction. That put me way in the back, under the lip, so the sound was incredibly awful.

Khruangbin rocks, Aragon not so much

by Bill on 3/8/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

Show was way oversold. Super hot. People could barely walk even at the very back of the venue. No clue how they let that many people in. Which was unfortunate because the show and the music was fantastic.

    Delightful

    by Kmo07 on 3/5/22The Sylvee - Madison

Really fantastic show and experience. A little hard to see over people being on a flat GA setup but the sound was enough to not even require a view. The energy of the crowd and flow of the music was overwhelmingly invigorating.

    Good Show buuut…

by Billynrthwoods on 3/4/22The Sylvee - Madison

Good show. The line was so long to get in we missed the opener. Show started at 8 and took us 30 minutes to get in. Maybe make people more aware to get in earlier. Khrungbin was super good but this isn’t a $50 show. Too much for a festival band.

First time at the pageant in many years,

by Blkbodhi on 12/17/21The Pageant - St Louis

Nothing changed except the prices. I never heard of these people. Pleasantly surprised. The opening two numbers were transcendent. The guitarist is a virtuoso. It went too soon into near shredding solo’s. And the bassist was to far in the background. The set was visually appealing. The medleys were great but too many. I hate Covid precautions. I’d see them again.

If you ever get the opportunity to see Khruangbin just by the ticket. Don’t think about or wait. The light show is fantastic and the music speaks for itself
