Spacey is unparalleled in his skill as an actor to entertain and enthrall. Would have preferred that the stadium adjusted better for sound to deal with planes that flew overhead. However, I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.
The idea of using Arthur Ashe stadium for a one-may play turned out to be terrible. First, it was way to large to be in any way "intimate." Second, the airplane noise was intolerable. Third, unlike a big musical event where you don't really need to hear the words, this was just not a good way to present the ideas in the play. Also, the food concessions were way to understocked. The play itself, meanwhile, had many shortcomings. It seemed to be a very over-simplified version of Darrow's very complicated life. Mr. Spacey, who tried very hard to make it seem real, did too many things that didn't seem to make sense in terms of how he picked up and moved stuff, dressed and undressed, etc. It simply was not well thought out.
The play, the direction, and the delivery were simply amazing.
Kevin spacey had a very enthusiastic and enthralling performance. It was lovely, funny and truthful.
There's no question Kevin Spacey is a great actor, an impresario and a daring, creative mind in the world of performing. His relationship and use of the audience, the historical character of Clarence Darrow and the unusual use of the Arthur Ashe Stadium unquestionably forges new paths for all involved. The problem I had with this production was one of direction. Why was he moving boxes around? What was he doing in that space? While the actions of going through photos and evidence was useful to us, why was he doing it as Clarence Darrow? This was storytelling without a real conflict. It was interesting, but not really effective theater. Especially for those of us who were seated in the Loge behind his desk. It was hard to remain engaged without conflict or effective direction.
Poor Kevin, The venue was all wrong. Perhaps a more intimate setting would have rescued a less than meaty script. Mr. Spacey's talent was sorely tested to bring Darrow to life and only resulted in a brave attempt at CPR.
Mr. Spacey did an amazing job as Clarence Darrow for an educational and extremely entertaining experience.
This was a great performance interrupted by airplane noise. I had previously studied Darrow and I found this to be very accurate. There could have been a little more detail included about his early career to explain how Darrow became such a champion of the underdog. I can't say I heard every word. Hopefully Arthur Ashe will never be used for a play again.

Excellent presentation. Some of darrows views on society still applicable today. Confirms why I became a lawyer after reading his biography in 5th grade brought my two college age sons. Also great venue.
What an amazing performance by a great actor. To only have one person to rely on and to play off of for an entire performance truly reaches another level of depth for the art.

Kevin Spacey was excellent. The staging was cleverly done and made every section in the round feel like he was talking to them. The stadium site, however, was not good because of the very loud sound of planes flying overhead to LaGuardia Airport every two minutes! It made it more difficult to hear. But the acoustics were very good when there were no planes.
Great performance from keving spacey. Close to 2 hours non stop. Despite all the desruption from planes taking off from la guardia, he managed to get the audiance engaged to his performance... well done kevin!!!!
I've always been a Kevin Spacey fan so when I found out he was doing a show I had to go. It was one of the most riveting and captivating shows I've been too and it was just him. From the moment he walked on stage I couldn't take my eyes off of him. I felt like I knew Clarence Darrow personally, what a revolutionary human being he had been. It's hard to believe he was born in the late 1800s. It's sad a play like that took place in the 1900s because it rings so true for today. It's like everything and nothing has changed. My respect for Mr. Spacey grew ten folds. Bravo and thank you for bringing this play to life.
What a disappointment. Spacey was ok, the show itself was really poor. The writing was so subpar at times it was hard to not walk out. Considering it's two night run and elite cost I walked out feeling robbed.
The show itself was really wonderful. Kevin Spacey was fabulous! The venue was not great. It was too big and the screens were too small! I did not miss a word of what was said, but the airplanes were annoyingly and loud.

An evening of theater magic. Only Kevin Spacey could fill that huge space with a brilliant performance and make it feel intimate. He worked every corner of the room and brought the audience into the world of Darrow. It was one of those nights you pinch yourself and feel lucky to have seen brilliance. My only regret I couldn't go back on Friday to see it again. BRAVO KEVIN SPACEY!
