SOKAH is the highest vibration! #socatotheworld
by de_warahoun on 6/17/25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5Saturday June 14, 2025 goes down in history when Toronto's Budweiser stage opened its summer season with a brilliant and beloved SOCA artist, achieving sold-out status to a venue that held in excess of 16,000 persons. Kes the Band, fronted by Kees Diefenthaller, for one glorious evening, turned Toronto into what can only be considered a KES-mas celebration. A complete experience, from the moment you entered the gates, lasting well beyond as you shut your eyes in enchantment of this elevating memory, to flavour your dreams in a well-seasoned cornucopia of music, dancing, imagery and good vibes.
Kes The Band (KTB) commanded a captive and devoted audience for 3 hours, without the use of onstage gimmicks such as scantily-clad dancers, fireworks, confetti bombs or glitter - which seem to be the standard for every high profile artiste in any music genre these days. They held us strictly on the strength of their music and his voice, on a bare stage with only a backdrop displaying video imagery from the band's music videography library. They needed nothing else.
Added enjoyment came from a well-selected bevy of guest artists, reflecting KTB's respect and recognition of the Masters of the artform as well as the wave of the future. The placement of David Michael Rudder, Teddyson John, Tessanne Chin, Voice, Ravi B and Yung Bredda, on this enormous forum, felt absolutely appropriate, further endearing the enormous fan base to the heart of the featured artist - whose genuine regard for each guest artist reflected in the quality of musical support from the band.
All of it combined provided an unforgettable experience for every soul present at the Budweiser stage, even the security and first responders on duty.
Congratulations to Kees and KTB on a remarkable achievement! I hope that its impact is measured and recognized for the positive mark that the Soca artform has made, and that there would be many more such events at this venue.
