Kentucky Wildcats Football History
The University of Kentucky first fielded a football team in 1881, and has consistently competed since the 1891 season. Legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant led the Wildcats from 1946 to 1953 and steered Kentucky to a dream season in 1950, where they went 11-1, won the SEC title and defeated the unbeaten Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl. The Wildcats also won a share of the 1976 SEC title under coach Fran Curci, and finished 10-1 the next season. Head coach Hal Mumme brought his electric "Air Raid" offense to Kentucky in the late ’90s and early ’00s, which helped quarterback Tim Couch be selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. In 2019, head coach Mark Stoops ensured Kentucky was a force to be reckoned with, installing a hard-hitting defense that produced one of the top prospects for the 2019 NFL Draft in linebacker Josh Allen. Stoops also helped the Wildcats notch two of the team’s four all-time 10-win seasons.
Over the years, Kentucky has had many legendary players, including Pro Football Hall of Famer George Blanda, who played under Bear Bryant, center Dermontti Dawson, wide receiver Randall Cobb and Jared Lorenzen. During the Mark Stoops era, many top players have led the way, including Josh Allen and running back Benny Snell Jr. They both led the Wildcats to a 27-24 victory in the 2019 Citrus Bowl over No. 13 Penn State en route to a No. 12 ranking in the AP poll at the end of the 2018 season.
The Kentucky Wildcats have heated rivalries against SEC East teams Tennessee and Vanderbilt, cross-division foes Mississippi State and and in-state competitors Louisville, who they face annually in the Governor's Cup.

We really enjoyed the game, my wife is not a big football fan, but she is talking about season tickets for next year.
OMG the best sporting event I have ever been to. Amazing game! Finally beat Spurrier
Really fun game. Enjoyed the weather and the atmosphere. Not really good seats but game made up for it.
Unforgettable upset UK beats SC! Fans stormed the field...priceless memories were made today!
The game was awesome! What a great bunch of fans on both sides, could not have asked for a better experience...
I will remember that game for the rest of my life!!
Great game. Lovely night. Lexington was Impressive. The World Equestrian games were going on and the city was alive with energy. Even traffic was a breeze.
This game turned out to be a nail biter for BOTH sides. Came down to the last drive with Auburn kicking a field goal to seal it 37 to 34. Kentucky came out in the second half and just stunned the Auburn team and especially the fans. The look on the Auburn fans' faces when UK tied it at 34 was worth the ticket price. Which brings me to Ticketmaster. This was, without a doubt (or exaggeration), the easiest way to buy these tickets I've ever experienced. Go to site, view seat choices, click buy, and print them out. We got to the game, they scanned the print out, and said "Enjoy the game!". Too easy. Lovin' it. Next time I will buy the tickets on the first day available and improve our seating. I did see tickets for seats very near ours for $20 more per ticket on eBay. So glad I checked here.
Stadium was absolutely spotless and everything was clearly marked as to the seating. There were ample concession stands and the restrooms were plentiful and clean. The only problem is that they play rap and hip-hop music before the game on the sound system. This is Kentucky! Hardly anyone listens to that crap!
I was extremely upset with the section we were seated in. It was full of obnoxious college students. I understand it is a college game & I am far from being conservative, but we were constantly elbowed & shoved and couldn't sit down because of people standing on the bleachers where we supposed to be seated. I was elbowed several times in the head & when i confronted the student all he said was "yeah, that was my elbow". That was extremely annoying, being that I paid $100 for two tickets to sit there. Finally once the obnoxious crowd settled down I enjoyed the remainder of the game. Kentucky played great & I am a die-hard fan and that is the only reason i would recommend it to a friend.
War Eagle, The Kentucky stadium was very clean and it was easy to exit the stadium after the game.
This was my first college football game other than my own school. I came down from michigan to visit my parents and went to the game. It was a beautiful stadium, the game was great, concessions located everywhere, and friendly people.
The game was great!! The weather was perfect!! The only negative thing was the bad language that some men around us used through out the game. I just wish they could choose better words, especially when children/youth are around.
Fantastic show. The game was great, we had fantastic seats and the Cats ruled the field. I would recommend Commonwealth stadium to everyone. The people are great and you never meet a stranger. If you want to experience a mega show, I would recommend U.K. football to everyone.
