About

KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD IN CONCERT:

Guitar god Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the fiercest young axmen of his generation, and he continues to blow audiences away every time he takes the stage. The self-taught virtuoso is a sight to behold in concert, where his furious fingers and flailing blonde locks serve as the perfect counterpoint to the precision and ease of his razor-sharp riffs. Whether he's playing bluesy originals from 2014's Goin' Home or covering legends like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, Shepherd always treats fans to electrifying performances that are as heavy on pure gusto as they are on musical chops.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Shreveport, Louisiana-born Kenny Wayne Shepherd got his first guitar in early childhood and began learning the instrument with a unique self-taught method. He was quickly recognized as a guitar prodigy, and at age 13 he was invited to play on stage with blues icon Bryan Lee. His first performance at the Red River Revel Arts Festival in Shreveport attracted the eye of label execs, and before long Shepherd had signed a multiple record deal with Giant Records. His 1995 debut album Leadbetter Heights topped the blues chart, a feat he repeated with five subsequent albums including his 1997 sophomore album Trouble Is... -- the longest-running album on the Billboard Blues Chart in history.  In 2014 Shepherd released his seventh studio album Goin' Home, another chart-topper that has fans eagerly awaiting his next must-see series of tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I have seen Kenny Wayne numerous times and this was his best show yet. See him if you can!"

"Awesome show!!! Would definitely pay to see them again! He punished that guitar!"

"Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band rocked the blues. What great musicians. His closing act of Jimmy Hendrix's 'Voodoo Child' was awesome."

  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd was smokin'!

by hdmagic1 on 10/2/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

Kenny Wayne played for nearly an hour and a half at the Voodoo Lounge in Harrah's Kansas City Casino last night. His guitar playing was flawless. Near the end of their set they invited two members of Trampled Under Foot, a Kansas City blues band, to come up and do a couple of numbers. You would have thought that they had been rehearsing for weeks. The female vocalist and bass player and the guitarist vocalist from the local band added another dimension to music of the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band. I can't wait until they come back to KC and hope that they play at the Voodoo Lounge again. The atmosphere there is top notch.

  • Jam with local band wonderfull surprise

kenny wayne was great as allways. Jam with opening act Trampled Under Foot was worth the price of show on its own.

  • Solid Performance

by HyperX on 10/2/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

The opening act, Trampled Under Foot, was pretty good. KWS came out and did a solid set, playing songs that pretty much spanned his whole catalog. It seemed to me like they started out kinda slowly, but by the fourth or fifth song they really started getting into it.

  • INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!

OPENING ACT WAS WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION-ADD 2+ HRS WITH KWS AND HAVING THE OPENING ACT BACK TO PERFORM WITH KWS WAS ICING ON THE CAKE. INVITING VENUE WITH VOODOO LOUNGE SETTING- WE WILL BE BACK FOR MORE!!

  • Kenny Watne Shepherd Band - Go see him!

by Thop on 10/2/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

Show was great. The venue is wonderful. Small venue, not a bad seat or standing area int he house. Acoustics were verygood. Kenny is a phenomenal guitarist. It seemed totake him about 5-6 songs to warm up to the crowd but after that he seemed to be in a groove... He invited the warm upband Trampled Under Foot up on stage for a couple songs and it was very well executed. THey sounded really good together. All in all a very good experience.

  • Kenny was great!

by Satchmo on 10/2/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

The opening band, Trampled Under Foot, was a great K.C. local band that went well with Kenny's show. Kenny Wayne and Noah did a great job of entertaining us all as well as the rest of the band. They are all very talented people. This was the fifth or sixth time that I have seen Kenny Wayne Shepherd and have never seen a bad show. He always closes the show with Voodoo Child and I believe it would make Jimmy Hendrix proud.

  • Kenny Wayne was killer!

This had to have been the best concert I've ever seen. Kenny Wayne was dynamite.

  • KWS + TUF in KC

Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band were fantastic last night. Kansas City's own Trampled Under Foot joined KWS onstage for a couple songs and the combination was great.

This was a well arranged musical feast. The opening act, of which I don't know their name, was the best.

  • Kenny Wayne Rocks!!!

by dgirl3106 on 8/5/09Showbox at the Market - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome show. This dude can play guitar. Watching him was like having a front row seat to his soul. Amazingly clean guitar playing with incredible back up vocals from his lead singer. Can't wait for him to return and hopefully the same venue.

  • Just Phenomenal

by CaseyC on 8/4/09Showbox at the Market - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

We were just blown away by Kenny's casual mastery and intensity. And what a great venue! We could up close and personal! Just a phantastic evening.

  • KWS unbelievable

by Johncutt on 8/3/09Showbox at the Market - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 3rd concert by Kenny Wayne in 2 years. He just keeps getting better and better. He is the best blues guitar player on the planet, period. At this show, he seemed to be much more loose and at ease than previous shows here in Seattle. The showbox is a great intimate venue, and the crowd was very appreciative and into his performance. He was back and forth on the stage, and he and Noah did some rock and roll mugging for everyone with some famous head thrashing. Kenny did some behind the head playing, which was a first for me....and he stalked the stage with some serious attitude. His austin based band is as solid as they come. The only negative was the muddy audio mix, especially of the keyboard player. If you never got to see Stevie Ray Vaughn, like me, be sure you see Kenny Wayne next time there is an opportunity....life is short, and he is the man...

  • Kenny Wayne played Little Wing soo well !

by rebozo on 8/2/09Showbox at the Market - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

First time to see Kenny live, and I'll be there whenever he's in town. The venue and acoustics were great. A truly worthwhile show.

  • I liked the opening act better

    by freethinker307 on 8/2/09Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Kenny Wayne is a first-rate guitar player; fast and fluent but not fun. You have to be well-lubed -- and the audience was, after an hour wait in line and another hour in the ballroom before a note of music was played --- to have a good time with Kenny, who exudes about zero personality on stage. Not only does he have his "bandmate" of 12.5 years do 99% of the singing, he also does most of the talking for Kenny... and a lot of unnecessary cheerleading (handclapping, arm-raising, really wedding party stuff.) But the 55 average age audience sucked it all up. (I'm 57) Bottom line: I never get the feeling that Kenny is pulling this out of his heart or soul at the moment he's playing; I'm not sure I heard an authentically original or spontaneous lick the whole night. Even in the number that closed his main act -- a number that even I found pretty thrilling otherwise. His songwriting -- assuming he does the songwriting -- is not great. Even to someone who doesn't know all the covers he's doing, you can tell the songs that are his: they all have a similar sound and pretty mediocre lyrics. They're really set pieces for his solos. Sorry, that's not enough. Yeah, we can all hope Kenny Wayne fills Stevie Ray Vaughn's "shoes," we can all root for him -- hey, I root for him -- but he doesn't. He should find himself, find his own way, get rid of his 80s-style wedding party vocalist, find a voice, and emerge. He's a good listen, not a good see -- unless you're five beers into it when he begins, and think it's really cool to raise your beer bottle over your head. But the Commodore Ballroom -- once they get their act together about starting the music in a timely manner -- is a fabulous venue. Every city should have a place like this. And Kenny Wayne's drummer was great.
