About

KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD IN CONCERT:

Guitar god Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the fiercest young axmen of his generation, and he continues to blow audiences away every time he takes the stage. The self-taught virtuoso is a sight to behold in concert, where his furious fingers and flailing blonde locks serve as the perfect counterpoint to the precision and ease of his razor-sharp riffs. Whether he's playing bluesy originals from 2014's Goin' Home or covering legends like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, Shepherd always treats fans to electrifying performances that are as heavy on pure gusto as they are on musical chops.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Shreveport, Louisiana-born Kenny Wayne Shepherd got his first guitar in early childhood and began learning the instrument with a unique self-taught method. He was quickly recognized as a guitar prodigy, and at age 13 he was invited to play on stage with blues icon Bryan Lee. His first performance at the Red River Revel Arts Festival in Shreveport attracted the eye of label execs, and before long Shepherd had signed a multiple record deal with Giant Records. His 1995 debut album Leadbetter Heights topped the blues chart, a feat he repeated with five subsequent albums including his 1997 sophomore album Trouble Is... -- the longest-running album on the Billboard Blues Chart in history.  In 2014 Shepherd released his seventh studio album Goin' Home, another chart-topper that has fans eagerly awaiting his next must-see series of tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I have seen Kenny Wayne numerous times and this was his best show yet. See him if you can!"

"Awesome show!!! Would definitely pay to see them again! He punished that guitar!"

"Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band rocked the blues. What great musicians. His closing act of Jimmy Hendrix's 'Voodoo Child' was awesome."

by HappyHenMan on 8/20/11Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 5 out of 5

Loved how they just hit the stage & played hard. Not a lot of chatter between songs. They gave us 3 hours of music in a 90 minute set. Great energy.

  • Solid Show!

by sdsmona on 8/19/11Missouri State Fair - SedaliaRating: 5 out of 5

The event last night was a solid show of incredible music. I've seen Kenny Wayne over the years, but now I think he has found blues mojo. His command on the stage and on HIS SHOW was obivious to the crowd. His band was one of the best with Noah Hunt's voice, the incredible Chris Layton (Wow, that was a nice surprise to see him on the drums) Tony Franklin bass playing was a sight to see and hear, and I always enjoy a band with keyboards by Riley Osbourn. It was one of those shows that the bands' sound was tight, and the show was a blast to be a part of.

  • Quite the axe slinger...

    by Mattman55 on 8/16/11Billy Bob's - Fort WorthRating: 3 out of 5

I've seen all the guitar greats from Satriani, Bonamassa and Santana to Clapton, Beck and Vaughn. Kenny's technical ability is right up there with the greats. However -- at least to me -- Kenny is more about machine-gun licks than tapping into his soul. As I watched and listened, I was simultaneously impressed and unmoved. I would recommend seeing Kenny Wayne for the spectacle of impressive chops and for an overall high-energy evening. Just keep in mind that it's going to be more of a rock concert; a sort of in-your-face blues as opposed to traditional. There were no slow numbers and no acoustic guitar numbers. It was raw Vaughnesque hyperspeed blues-rock with behind-the-head playing, Who-style windmills and throaty blues-bar vocals. Kenny Wayne has a LOT of talent and not that he cares what I think (he's rich and I'm not) but I hope he uses life's experiences to add additional depth to his music as time goes on.

Shreveport, LA. Saturday night Aug 13. FANTASTIC. The band has made some changes and have matured. Kenny has become comfortable on stage and it shows. I have been a huge fan since he was a kid.....now he is a seasoned musician and I am awestruck.

Excellent concert. Just wish he had played a little longer. Played about 1.45 hr with no back up band.

  • KWS is amazing

    by Susanna67 on 8/15/11Billy Bob's - Fort WorthRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! I hope he comes back soon and plays a larger venue.

  • Played his ass off and rocked the house!!

    by SammyMars on 8/15/11Billy Bob's - Fort WorthRating: 5 out of 5

I thought the show was superb! The set list was good, the band was having fun and sounded great and we did not sit down very much at all! I was disappointed in the crowd at the show, which most of them just sat there the entire time and Kenny Wayne was rocking the blues! Noah sounded great and we had a great time! They ended with Vodoo Chile and I couldn't help but think that Stevie Ray was looking down on all of them and was smiling ear to ear and groovin with them!!!! Keep on, keepin on guys!!

  • Excellent Show

Kenny Wayne Shepherd put on an excellent show with some serious guitar playing. He can really jam. Awesome guitar playing.

His show rocked, as usual, the venue was cool but the seating SUCKED.

  • Great show at a bad venue

    by offback on 8/14/11Billy Bob's - Fort WorthRating: 3 out of 5

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is aways a great show and this show was no different. See Kenny Wayne if you can just don't see him at Billy Bobs.

  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd still jams

    by roadtripgirl on 8/14/11Billy Bob's - Fort WorthRating: 4 out of 5

First, the venue. Billy Bob's Texas is small, and I like that. Wish the tables faced the stage; have to turn your chairs around and is a bit awkward, and very tight. The band adjusted the sound to fit the small venue; thank you SO much. The vocals were a bit lacking, I'm sorry to say. Don't know if that was venue/accoustics or the singer, but it just wasn't great. However, very good energy and performance so I'm not dissing him. But we went there to hear Kenny Wayne jam, and he delivered and then some. First time I saw him was on a tour with Van Halen and fell for him; he is so great. They have their own sound, but best described as a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble and the Allman Brothers. Blue on Black is my favorite, but is really not that typical of most of their music. Most of it has far more energy to it and while still blue-sy is still upbeat. Blue on Black just strikes a chord, and was brilliantly done.

  • Worth seeing many times

    by Cenm57 on 8/14/11Billy Bob's - Fort WorthRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Stevie Ray Vaughn many times. That was the last time I enjoyed a show this much. I am not saying it was the same. Kenny Wayne Shepherd has now convinced me he is in the same league. This is a show everyone will enjoy no matter what style of music they prefer.
