If you love faith, family and the American way of life, Kathy Mattea is a must see. Last night and the Birchmere, she gave another stunning performance. Her music gently caresses your soul as she takes you back to a better place in time. It was a performace that I will always remember. Kathy Mattea is an American treasures. Thank you.

  • Too Depressing

by smlbdl on 5/7/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 3 out of 5

I've enjoyed Kathy in concert before so I was dissappointed this time. I understand she wants to promote her new CDs but I was looking forward to hear the songs that I've enjoyed for years. The concert was very depressing. I know with what has happened with the miners and the floods in Nashville there was reason to sing about it BUT not every song. Hopefully next time she will stay more upbeat.

  • Kathy is most personable

Overall a great show, featuring many cuts from her new CD, "Coal". Given the flooding in Nashville, and the recent mine disasters, it was a touching set and her dialogue and stories to go with the music made it even more meaningful. A great voice and talented accompanyment made for an excellent evening, perfectly suited to the Birchmire.

  • Kathy Mattea and the Symphony

by JanFVO on 2/6/10Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

This was an incredible evening. The symphony was daring and exciting and wonderful. Kathy Mattea complemented the music with her voice and stories in a way that was stimulating and challenging. We left with a lilt in our walk.

  • An Incredible Delight

    by karmakid54 on 2/6/10Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Who would think that an incredible classical orchestra and an ecceltic folk/country singer could intermingle with such harmony? But, when the Charlotte Symphony did their rendition of "Orange Blossom Special" all doubts went out the door and into the rainy night! Kathy. her talented band, and The Symphony united to form an amaizng musical event. The trio reshaped each lyrical note and this new sound served to enhance Kathy's songs so that the beauty of the violins, cellos, etc. took her sound to a resounding new experience. It was beautiful. It was moving. It was fantastic. It was a once in a lifetime moment not to be missed.

Kathy Matea handles a concert with intelligence, charm, and maturity so hearing what she has to say is always a pleasure. She also has an strong beautiful voice, incredible songs that tell stories, and an amazing band. When you put all that together with the Charlotte Symphony, you have an unforgettable night. Thanks to Kathy and the Symphony!

  • Kathy Mattea was wonderful

    by Kathynumber1 on 2/6/10Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

What a great experience. The musicianship was incredible, the Symphony and its conductori were "on," and Kathy Mattea put on an incredible show. Her voice was as strong and sororous as ever, her manner with the audience was freindly and engaging, and she tooks some wonderful musical risks that few performers would take (like singing one of her songs a capella). I cannot imagine why she is not regarded more highly by the fans of country music. She deserves to be.

  • great evening!

by okeydokeysmokey on 2/6/10Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I rushed home from work - rushed through dinner - rushed to Ovens and took my seat. What a great night! I have been a KM fan forever - she has an instrument that is both prayer and celebration. The symphony was super and a perfect backdrop for her acoustic set. It is a joy to watch people doing what they love to do. I would recommend this kind of evening to anyone - even if you've never heard of KM - you'll be buying her music in the morning.

I'm not a big orchestra fan, but they were great, and the music intertwined nicely. Kathy was her usual self. Fabulous.

  • Great, and keeps getting better

    by wedew87 on 11/10/09Kimo Theatre - AlbuquerqueRating: 5 out of 5

Although I've enjoyed listening to and following Kathy Mattea's music the last time I saw her in concert was the early 1990s. I was pleased to find she hasn't lost her ability to connect with the audience and think her voice has only become stronger with time. It's obvious her latest CD (Coal) has songs with which she relates personally and that makes her delivery all the better. I'm a fan of stripped down, acoustic shows which this one was and really fit the songs, and showcased her voice and band. Overall a great concert in a great venue (Kimo) - If you like Kath Mattea you'll love this show.

Mountain Stage was amazing. I really enjoyed all the segments. Kathy Mattea was awesome. I have seen Mountain Stage one other time but this was by far the best performance. I thought it couldn't get better. It sure did!!! So glad I got to experience it!!

Loved seeing a true WV native who has become very successful in life and remembers her roots. The other groups were equally inspiring although Or, The Whales was not what I would consider a folk or country oriented group.
