This was my fifth show at Jimmy’s. Let me first state that I am a jazz snob and you can feel free to completely discard this review. The singer was excellent and should’ve been performing w/o playing the keyboards. She needed a better man behind her to support her. The playing level was nowhere near The Cookers nor Bill Charlap, who I previously saw over the last 30 days.
I caught her bass player with an "open-mouth" yawn in the first half of the show. The singer regularly mentioned her sidewomens' Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook handles. Chop-wise, the music was uninteresting. Let me state again, I am a jazz purist, so feel free to discard this review.
I’m sure many people attending really enjoyed it. I'm waiting for your next hard bebop booking...
