Justin Hayward on Tour
While a Moody Blues concert is an epic event, a Justin Hayward solo show — which might contain some of the same songs — offers fans a more intimate experience, one that's equally entrancing in its own way. Hayward wrote and sang the bulk of The Moody Blues' biggest hits, from "Nights in White Satin" to "The Story in Your Eyes" and "Your Wildest Dreams." And he's usually happy to bust out some of his Moodies tunes in his solo shows. But he's also maintained a solo recording career ever since the 1970s, full of melodic gems that you won't get to hear at a Moody Blues concert. And it's the combination of those two elements that really makes a Hayward show a special occurrence unto itself. When you're hearing Hayward deliver his material in a more direct manner, sometimes telling the stories behind the songs, it makes for a unique connection with this rock legend.
Justin Hayward in Concert
The world knows singer, songwriter, and guitarist Justin Hayward best as the driving force behind The Moody Blues, one of the most innovative bands of the classic-rock era. With Hayward at the helm, the Moodies moved from an R&B-inflected style in the mid-1960s to a more psychedelic sound later in the decade, making history with their marriage of classical music and rock on the 1967 milestone Days of Future Passed and prefiguring progressive rock in the process. And though he led the band through multiple comebacks and evolutionary phases in the subsequent decades, Hayward also created an artistic space all his own outside of The Moody Blues. He released his first solo album, the appropriately titled Songwriter, in 1977. And ever since then, though he's had long periods where he concentrated on being a bandleader, he's never closed the door on his solo career. Whenever he's ready for a more personal statement, Hayward steps away from the Moodies to resume his path with his own music.

‘Loved the music of Justin Hayward, Michael Dawes and the group… A most wonderful performance. First time at Birchmere and I’m a local living in Arlington. I will be back.
The entire show with Mike Dawes and Justin Hayward was fantastic. Mike Dawes opened the show and was full of personality and great music. Then came the Superstar Justin.. He played for overrun hour and a half and was terrific. He played a few new songs and ones he has previously released and all those were very good. He intermixed those songs with hits from the Moody Blues and ended the show with a flurry go great Moody Blues hits. He played almost all the songs on their greatest hits album! He was quite entertaining and the musicians who accompanied him were first rate. It was fun relaxing and exciting night listening a giant in the music world.
Justin Hayward was stellar, can’t get better than this concert!!! Hope he returns to the Birchmere again!!!
Justin's voice and playing were excellent, as were the musicians who accompanied him. He played a fair anount of old MB songs i had never heard before in concert (like The Actor) which was an especial treat. 6 out of 5 stars. Id see him again in a flash if he were playing locally.
Great show. I've never seen the Moody Blues before. Music was great. Didn't care too much for Christopher Cross. He sings TOO close to the mic and his words are muffled.
I'm writing this several days later but I'm still on a high from hearing him perform! Justin sang several of my all-time favorite songs. Forever Autumn was just beautiful live. He is one of the greatest voices in music and even in his 70s, he still has it! It was a wonderful show. Mike Dawes was a great opener. He's an amazing guitarist.
Great show with Chris Cross. Loved the fact that such an accomplished singer songwriter was willing to open for a larger production but, IMO, less accomplished act. Inspiring and loved the show!
Justin Hayward and Chris Cross were amazing! I would have preferred more of Justin — he was my main reason for being there. Love that man!
Top-Flight quartet performances of Moody Blues classics & MORE. Justin Hayward was in GREAT shape vocally and instrumentally - as was the rest of his ensemble. All instrumentals were crisp, clear, precisely played and NOT over-amplified! No egos got in the way of a GREAT overall performance! Wonderful night of music!
I really enjoyed the show and the musicianship was absolute quality! Justin didn't fail to impress but his band were all exceptional too! It would be wrong of me to single one of them out but the blend of the instruments, the vocals and the passion were memorable!!! Some of the songs were very surprising and extremely uplifting. I would highly recommend anyone to go see the show! It was unforgettable!!!
I came to this concert to see both Justin Hayward, and also Christopher Cross. Both artists gave great performances in a modest sized venue.
Justin has a buttery smooth voice that takes his fans on a spiritual and romantic journey along the pathway of life.
As the lead singer for the Moody Blues Justin was terrific. He had a small band of musicians that complemented him perfectly. It was a great show, he sang some new tunes and some classics. The second show was Christopher Cross which was over done by a loud and noisy band for a marginalized talent. It was so bad I left before even halfway through the show. What a dichotomy In presentations.
Never saw the Moody blues. Lynn Auditorium great venue. He did all the hits !
Justin's set was fabulous, though too short. I would prefer to see him without another headliner. His songs are beautiful. Hearing more of them would have made the evening so much better. His voice sounded wonderful. Julie's voice harmonizes so well with Justin's. Mike's & Karmen's playing were top notch. I will see Justin in concert any time I can get to one of his shows. More, please!
We've gone to a lot of concerts from 60s and 70s artists in the past six years, but none can carry it off any better than Justin Hayward. He still sounds great, and his supporting band are simply stellar. This is one "nostalgia" concert that won't disappoint! Highly recommended.
I am thrilled that I got to see Justin Hayward. His voice is so wonderful. I just closed my eyes and let it wash over me. It was worth driving 2 hours to get there.
Absolutely the best venue around to see a show. All experiences here have been 5 star and we can't wait to be back. Welcome addition to the North Shore. Both acts were excellent and brought back many memories!
As always, Justin put on a fabulous show! He's in great voice. The "little gang" that accompanies him (as he affectionately refers to them) is a perfect complement of talent and personalities. Mike's abbreviated opening act (due to Justin co-headlining with Christopher Cross) engages the audience and makes for an enjoyable start to the evening.
