Excellent show! First you had to follow all of Cobb's rules to get in. They only allow tiny clutch bags so my friend had to put all her items into a clear plastic bag and then retrieve her purse from coat check after the show. We wore masks to walk in, but once inside people took them off to eat + drink at their tables. We went to the early show so we were able to arrive early and snag a table pretty close to the stage. I had nachos and the sangria, which is in a carafe so it counts as 2 drinks for 2 people. Both were just ok, nothing special - but you don't go to Cobb's for the food/drink, you go for the performers. Brent Pella and JP Sears were hilarious as always. The crowd gave them loud applause - high energy in the room. My only complaint is that the sets seemed too short.
The opening act was good and the headliner, JP Sears was fantastic! The crowd was also great. Servers were kind.
We laughed every single minute. This was by far the best comedy show we've seen so far. The staff was amazing as well. It couldn't have been a better experience.
Loved the experience. Funny, heartfelt, and actually motivational.
This was the best comedy show I've ever seen in the bay area! :) -AA
Feels so healthy to laugh that much. JP is on point and warm up guy Brent was hilarious as well!
I'm a big stand-up comedy junkie- I see a lot of local and national acts. I would guess probably 20-50 a year, and JP's set at helium comedy club he did recently in Portland Oregon is in my all-time top five favorite shows. I've watched his YouTube videos and enjoyed them but his stand up is even better so do yourself a favor and go see JP Sears at your local comedy club. I'm really glad that he is going out and touring because he really saved me from myself being locked up at home during covid brought a bunch of laughs at a well needed time. His comedy in person is similar to his YouTube personality, very sarcastic but also analytical and introspective observational and witty. Questioning and exposing the status quo in a clever yet humorous way.
First thing I want to say is that the opener for this show would be a really hard act to follow. The man was talented and made drug jokes to a crowd full of burning man attendees - he killed it. Then JP came out and everyone was real excited. The first 10 minutes by JP were great... then it became awkward with very little laughs. Awkward is good... but not without the laughs at a comedy show. I would see him again though and continue to support his YouTube page! However, I think he should stick to what he’s best at. #SpiritualasHell
JP was pretty funny but not materially different than his YouTube videos. However that is what you’re getting when you sign up. His opener was not that funny. And screamed into the microphone way too much. Also, the show is listed to start at 8 PM, however, they sat people all the way up until 8:30 PM. Please start the show on time!! Our time is valuable too.
Honestly I had pretty low expectations. I though this dood was just a funny YouTube guy but i was wrong. JP Sears is a total professional. He owned the stage and the hecklers. Hilarious. My stomach hurt from laughing soo much. Highly recommended. Oh, he does wear those funny toe shoes. Must be a gym rat thing. Guy works out! Definitely a carnivore.
Absolutely LOVED the show, he can be funny with intelligent humor without the need of cuss words or minority jokes. Cant wait to see him again!
JP Sears is an original. His heart spills concern for the integrity of humanity in the most hilarious way. Love his contributions to the awake community. He gives genuine answers to the VIP crowd-definitely worth the upgrade!!
Great venue but even great act. JP Sears is funny, witty in his humor. I can't wait to see him again.
A good place to see a show, all seats are very good. Eat pre show at Goose Island next door and use your 2 drink/item/ransom to split a bottle of wine during the show.
JP was not only hilarious, but inspirational too! Highly recommend!
JP's YouTube schtick is much more entertaining than his onstage presence. It just doesn't translate well. Punch Line Philly also should have considered the audience a little more before determining their opening acts. JP's audience isn't one that would generally appreciate opening acts with (to be frank) unnecessarily vulgar content. The venue (Punch Line Philly) was nice and spacious (seats about 300), and the wait staff was attentive - but their bar selection was really weak, especially the beer. Most beer items on the menu were 'not available', and what was turned out to be subpar.
JP nails the self-pretensiveness we have to put up with every day.
The only caveat for this event, in my opinion, was the two openers. I didn't see from the information on the website for who would be opening, and they were quite a different style from JP. There was no previous information on seating arrangements either, although I assume after going to a comedy club once, you will have a good idea of what the seating will be like there. There was a two drink minimum here, just a heads up. Overall, it was great, everyone is on one floor, so you can see the performer from wherever you sit.
Videos funny....live on stage NOT! Don't waste a dime on this show.
