    James Farm/ Rosnes/Sharlap

by mikeymazda on 6/27/10The Centre In Vancouver for Performing Arts - Vancouver

I expected to be wowed by James Farm and I was: what magnificent musicianship. A drummer like no other. Etc, etc. But Rosnes/Charlap were a delightful surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the sheer musicality of their pairing blew me away.

    Freezing cold

by Mamaknows on 3/7/10Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

The music was fantastic. Needed an opening act. The venue is very nice, but the temperature was unbearable. I wanted to leave but my husband loves straight ahead jazz. The air condition was on full blast, on a rainy ,chilly night. It was so uncomfortable.

What a great saxapjhonist, and great sidement too!

by lalex on 3/7/10Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

I braved the elements to get to Luckman at USC-LA. I'm so glad I did. Not only did I have front row center seats (how'd that happen?), but the whole audience was treated to the composing and technical playing abilities of Joshua Redman and his trio. If he comes to your area don't miss this!

    Swinging In The Rain

by AlMightyJSPS on 3/7/10Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

This is jazz the way I love it; melodic, adventurous and played by musicians at the top of their form. I have liked Joshua Redman's music whenever I've caught him on KJAZZ. Last night, HE caught me, as did his great bassist, Reuben Rogers. We were lucky enough to have front row seats by the drums and got to witness the phenomenal drummer, Bill Stewart up close. Great Cooga Mooga!! I left my jaw on the floor at Cal State. I threw by back out earlier this week and was still hobbling a bit when we got to the Luckman. When I stood up at the end of the show, the pain was gone. I'm just sayin'...

    Joshua Redman in rare form

by RDPESQ on 3/7/10Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

I first saw Joshua Redman in 1995 perform in Berkeley. It was the best performance I ever saw. Since then, I have seen him live three other times. Yesterday, i saw him live for the 1st time in about five years. He did not disappoint. He played for an hour and 45 minutes STRAIGHT. Over the years, his music has matured and become deeper. But seeing him live is a must. Jazz fan or not, you won't be disappointed.

    Very fresh

by Saxamaphonicules on 9/21/09Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

His playing was very fresh and new and took winds and turns as it progressed harmonically. At times the audience was rocking out in their chairs with him, and at times it was laid back, introverted and very chill. He takes you all over the place. The bassist and drummer were amazing and inspiring. I only wish he had played some stuff from previous albums. The current album is intense and sometimes the ears need a break back to something a little more familiar or bluesy. Still, I drove a long way and had an awesome time.

THE BEST TENOR PLAYER OF OUR AGE!!!

by iWinland on 9/20/09Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

He is the best tenor player and one of the best musicians of our age. He has a great command of his instruments. His music is so intense for a trio, and I would recommned him to anyone, whether a musician or just a music lover.

    Best concert of my life

by Nicktastic on 9/20/09Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

The Joshua Redman trio played the best live music I've ever experienced. Never before has a performance made me so happy to be alive. Completely unforgettable. The whole trio, including Matt Penman on bass and Gregory Hutchinson on drums, was communicating on the highest musical level and projecting humor and joyous energy, while the sheer virtuosity and creativity of the individuals involved was mind-blowing. The arrangements were extremely tight and interesting. I knew Joshua was good, but I really didn't understand just how amazing he was until I heard him live. Don't miss it.
