He spent too much time trying to showcase Gabriella

    by Michelle on 2/6/24

I went to N.H. from Boston to hear him. I'm glad I took the trip to Portsmouth which is a lovely town. The show was nothing special, unfortunately. Very nice venue though!

Don't waste your time or money!

    by S. M. on 1/18/23Centennial Hall - Tucson

I was extremely disappointed with this show. Though each muxician was great at playing their individual instruments, Redman himself stated it was the first time the five band members ever played together. It was obvious. The show was more of a jam session of riffs rather than a cohesive performance. I payed good money for the tickets, but left early out of boredom. So disappointed...

The acoustics at Centennial Hall are not good Did not get the full sound of the performance. A smaller venue for Joshua Redman would have been better

Not the concert I was expecting

by ljpg on 1/16/23Centennial Hall - Tucson

I was disappointed. The event was billed as Joshua Redman 3x3. Based on what I have seen from report of recent concerts elsewhere, this should have been 3 top-shelf musicians giving us top-shelf performances. Instead, for reasons unknown, we got Joshua Redman with four just-out-of-college musicians reading through mostly Redman songs. Don’t get me wrong, the backing band was decent, especially the pianist, but they were not the likes of Larry Grenadier and Marcus Gilmore. Had I known, I would not have bought a ticket.

Great show. All was at the top of their game. Really missed Joshua's live shows. Will definitely see that quartet again.

    Swinging

Great show, excellent musicianship swinging from the very first note to the last. Brilliant stage presence.

    Sublime

by Rojhay on 4/22/22Town Hall - New York

It was simply the best jazz concert I attended in many, many years. Even though those four world-class musicians don’t get to play together that often due to their busy schedule, they don’t just sound like an addition of talents. They sound like a band, with great interplay and amazing chemistry. Lastly, the beautiful compositions were only originals, either from Moodswing or from their latest recording Round Again, already a classic!

    Loved the Music and Venue

    by M. F. on 11/14/19Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

I enjoyed the jazz music performance by Joshua Redman quartet. UCLA Royce Hall is a beautiful building and the concert hall has great acoustics. I had a great view of the stage in the Balcony Center Left. The ceiling is gorgeous. Parking was close (Lot 4).

    Mixed review

by Ruby on 11/13/19Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Joshua Redmond was exciting and pulled in the audience and held us with energy and artistry. I would go see him again. But the other group was ok. I didn’t come to hear them. And they did not hold my attention. Good musicians but each time felt like a “lead in” that lasted too long and then it would end. Drums were too much.

    Picking up good vibrations

by ClefNotes on 6/7/13Town Hall - New York

Josh Redman, flanked by the hottest sidemen and a small orchestra, made the perfect ending to a beautiful day. The show came from his latest album but packs a much more forceful punch in person. The sounds were beautiful, the listening and interplay like a wistaria vine growing up an ornate facade. Not only that, Redman is humble, self-effacing, and generous with his stage. Brian Blade: what can you say? No one plays tubs with more expression and variety of sounds. Brad Mehldau respects the past and takes it beyond. Larry Grenadier is solid as a rock. All concerts should have this lyricism.

    beautiful music

by Anonymous on 6/6/13Town Hall - New York

I enjoyed every music they played. I think Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Larry Grenadier, Brian Blade and orchestra provided us what we expected. Wave of emotional sounds radiated all over the place.

Joshua Redman + Brad Mehldau + orchestra

by Wheezys on 6/6/13Town Hall - New York

Very good show and great acoustics. I had no idea how the show was going to be set up. The music was beautiful but it was a bit unexpected for a jazz show. Needed to have a couple of fewer ballads and thrown in some up-tempo stuff just to get folks moving. It was the first time I had seen Joshua Redman but I had heard Brad Mehldau before, and he was fantastic. Great quartet and terrific orchestra.

    Great concert!!

by JohnDrummer on 6/6/13Town Hall - New York

Unique, dynamic, musical, creative, intimate, masterful... not sure what other terms I can use to describe the concert. I've been wanting to hear this group for a long time and they did not disappoint. It was a unique setting with the wonderful orchestra and great arrangements on both classic and original tunes. It always amazes me when you have a group where you can't imagine that the concert could have been pulled off with any other combination of musicians - they each "owned" the material. Joshua was incredibly tasteful, musical and masterful. Brian Blade played with a subtle dynamic that was incredible - to play so soft yet with such intensity - not once drowning out the subtlety of the orchestra. Brad Mehldau and Larry Grenadier where amazing! Two standing Os later and they were done. I could have listened all night

Joshua Redman Solo Performance at Villa Montalvo

by ahangai on 1/21/11Montalvo - Saratoga

The event was excellent. Joshua Redman's performance was superb, and the theater setting and the sound condition were also awesome. The parking situation was a bit tricky. Since Villa Montalvo is in the mountains with all the buildings are built on the slope, the several parking lots at the Villa were scattered, and most of them are at least a couple of minutes away on foot. Other than that, the show was great.

Solo by Redman Displays an Extraordinary Talent!

by JazzLoverForever on 1/21/11Montalvo - Saratoga

I've been listening, live as much as possible, to jazz for 50 years. I love sax and have heard Joshua Redman many times; however this unique solo performance , in a small setting at Montalvo, really focused and displayed an extraordinary talent. In addition, his humility and light humor are very charming. Though a small audience, a line formed outside of patrons after we'd bought (yet another) of his cd's. As he came out of the Carriage House, he hesitated, then expressed, "Oh, thought I was supposed to get in line!" as he came to the front and happily sat down to autograph cd's and chat with happy concert goers.

    James Farm/ Rosnes/Sharlap

by mikeymazda on 6/27/10The Centre In Vancouver for Performing Arts - Vancouver

I expected to be wowed by James Farm and I was: what magnificent musicianship. A drummer like no other. Etc, etc. But Rosnes/Charlap were a delightful surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the sheer musicality of their pairing blew me away.
