About

Joshua Radin grew up listening to classic Motown hits of the ‘60s, The Beatles, Paul Simon, James Taylor and Cat Stevens, influences which were to play a big part in his future career. He studied art at Northwestern University before moving to New York, buying a guitar and teaching himself how to play it and write songs.

His big break come in 2004 when he presented a copy of his very first song “Winter” to a TV producer by the name of Zach Braff with whom he eventually became close friends. He was so impressed he used it as a soundtrack on a scene in the comedy TV series Scrubs in 2004. After this exposure, demand grew for his work and soon his compositions were featuring in hit TV shows such as Brothers and Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill and American Idol. In total he has written more than 75 songs which have been featured on TV.

He relocated to Los Angeles, signed with Columbia Records and released his first album We Were Here in 2006. It was received enthusiastically by fans and music critics alike receiving a four-star Rolling Stone review and achieving No. 1 position on iTunes Folk Album Chart. His second album Simple Times was released in 2008 under the Mom & Pop label and reached No. 34 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. His most successful single from the album “I'd Rather Be With You” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. He released his third album The Rock and The Tide in October 2010 and achieved similar levels of chart and critical success, with it reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Independent Chart. His most recent album Underwater was released in 2012.

Radin has played with many musical greats both during his extensive touring career as well as on his popular albums. Guest performers have included Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Gary Jules, Belmont Tench, Jim Keltner, Johnny Flagher, Jason Borger, Victor Indrizzo, Lenny Castro, Maria Taylor and Patty Griffin among others. He has also written soundtracks for hit movies including The Nanny Diaries, Catch and Release, Dakota Sky and The Last Kiss. He is in demand for personal appearances on TV shows and, most famously, after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was asked to perform at her wedding.

  • so good and yet...

by LOLisa on 9/23/09Birdys - IndianapolisRating: 3 out of 5

All the music was first rate- Gary Jules was fantastic to say the very least- and despite some sound issues, Joshua Radin sang beautifully. He played alot of new stuff which was very cool. However. He was kindof a jerk the whole time. I mean, Birdy's is a bar basically, and he asked the audience to be quiet, practically yelled at the poor sound guy (who incidentally didn;t have any issues with the two other performers at all) and at one point left the stage to play in the center of the crowd for a few songs. I'm sure this was amazing for the ten or fifteen people standing right in front of him, but for the rest of the people who were there to see him, it was less than impressive. Overall, I enjoyed the show, but I would have been pissed if I had payed more than $15.

  • Josh Radin is a diva

by addsaint on 9/23/09Birdys - IndianapolisRating: 2 out of 5

Josh Radin is a very talented musician. However, he is not gracious to the fans who have paid money to see him. During the concert, he repeatedly complained about the sound and technical support. In addition, he commented several times about the audience being too loud for him to play a particular song. I was unimpressed. While the music was enjoyable, he was not a crowd pleaser. I would not pay money to see him again.

  • Radin sure put on a show!

by Revness on 9/21/09The Basement - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing..... starting off with a new artist from brookyln with a twang to her voice and then followed up with the amazing gary jules ( madworld is awesome!!).... and then....... JOSHUA RADIN!!!!!! I already think he is completely awesome but seeing him live as this was my first time made his music that much better and appealing! HE played the perfect mix of songs... from some of his older ones to his current ones and even a few unreleased songs that will be on his new unrecorded album!!!!! He kept the crowd going and the mood a good one even as the night went on and it got hotter and though our legs were turning to jelly from standing. One of the most memorable concerts yet!

  • Joshua Radin was wonderful!

by Belles on 9/21/09Beachland Ballroom - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

I am a huge Joshua Radin fan and try to catch him each time he makes it to Cleveland. He is an engaging, charismatic artist and the Beachland Ballroom suited him well. The show had a great atmosphere and I would recommened seeing him to any fans of indie-rock.

  • Joshua Radin was hands down incredible!

by Htams on 9/21/09Diesel Club Lounge - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

I have always been a HUGE fan of Joshua Radin. After this show, if it is even possible, I'm an even bigger fan!!! His performance was amazing, he played off the crowd and his music was even better live than recorded. I was speechless when I left the show and will DEFINITELY see him again!

  • Joshua Radin at The Basement

by Nataratami on 9/21/09The Basement - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

I've never been to a show at The Basement. It was nice as far as as intimate atmosphere goes but it's almost impossible to see the artist performing. The stage is lowered and if you don't get in front fast forget about it. The music was excellent of course but the drink prices were insane. 5.25 for a watered down rum and coke in a plastic cup. I think they can do better. Lots of standing. I got the feeling back in my legs about an hour after the show. It's good music, so hey.....that's what matters.

  • Loved the Joshua Radin Concert!

by MValentineE on 9/21/09The Basement - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Went to see Joshua Radin in concert for the first time - it was great! Loved all of the opening bands - Joshua Radin did a nice sampling of the music from his CD's plus a few new songs, which were really cool. Overall, a wonderful time - I really enjoyed all of the music and the banter. I would definitely recommend the show & I will definitely go again if the concert makes it back to Columbus!

  • Joshua Radin is AWESOME!

    by Gleekster7134 on 9/21/09The Basement - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Joshua's voice is outstanding... he played an incredible show... lots of old favorites and some new stuff as well. Don't be fooled... he may be mellow, but some of his new stuff rocks out!! There were two openers... Amber Radath (sp?) and Gary Jules... who were also really great! It was an excellent show for a great price!!! It is a don't miss.

  • Joshua Radin is SO RAD !!

by WorldWandererMS on 9/20/09Diesel Club Lounge - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was amazing. He has a funny and lovable stage presence, not to mention his band is really fun to watch too! HUGE PROPS TO AMBER RUBART!!! she was one of the openers for joshua and she is now one of my favorite newsingers. I definitely recommend looking her up! GO SEE THEM IN CONCERT, I wish I was going again. Recommend Diesel too, pretty cool bar. Definitely can be up close and personal to the bands there if wanting to be.

  • joshua radin a MUST see

    by kate3333 on 9/20/09Beachland Ballroom - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

Joshua Radin was funny, genuine & completely into his music. His songs are amazing and if you don't know his music- going to a live show will win you over. Its my 3rd show- each one has been different (acoustic vs with a band vs with a female backup singer) and they've all been incredible.

  • very entertaining

    by charmedrp04 on 9/20/09Beachland Ballroom - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

Both opening acts were delightful, the ambiance at the ballroom was nice, but having to stand the entire time during a singer songwriter show was a bit much. I very much enjoyed the little anecdotes that were shared by the artists. However i might be biased as Joshua Radin is one of my favorite artists.

  • Josh Radin always rocks

by jbud on 9/20/09Beachland Ballroom - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

Josh Radin was at his best, played a bunch of new songs which I'm usually not a fan of at concerts.....I want to hear all the songs I know. But I was pleasantly surprised- many of his news songs have an upbeat, rock feel- and I'm looking forward to the new CD. There were however issues with the sound-- they adjusted eventually, but it was disappointing.

  • Terrific Show

    by CiaoBella125 on 9/19/09Diesel Club Lounge - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

One of the purest, most genuine voices I have heard live to date. Joshua Radin is not only a talented singer, but also a gifted songwriter. Come back to Pittsburgh soon, Joshua!

This was great show, at a nice venue. Excellent singer.

  • Awesome Joshua

by JayeAnne on 9/19/09Diesel Club Lounge - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

I love Joshua's music and feel relaxation wash over my soul when I hear his voice. His warm and fun personality made the experience fantastic (pun intended)! I'm sure that he is destined for greater things. Can't wait for his 3rd CD! Joshua, I wish you and your band lots of success and wonderful memories on your tour!

  • AMAZING.

by Sarahahaha on 9/10/09The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Amber & Gary were extremely talented! Great openers even though I hadn't previously known of them. Joshua, as always, put on a great show. He always makes a point to give fans a preview of his unreleased work, and really puts himself into the music. His new band was, surprisingly, "rockin'" though that word isn't normally associated with Josh's music! I've been listening to Josh for years and had a blast. I will name the old songs he played (but not in order, sorry).
