About

Joshua Radin grew up listening to classic Motown hits of the ‘60s, The Beatles, Paul Simon, James Taylor and Cat Stevens, influences which were to play a big part in his future career. He studied art at Northwestern University before moving to New York, buying a guitar and teaching himself how to play it and write songs.

His big break come in 2004 when he presented a copy of his very first song “Winter” to a TV producer by the name of Zach Braff with whom he eventually became close friends. He was so impressed he used it as a soundtrack on a scene in the comedy TV series Scrubs in 2004. After this exposure, demand grew for his work and soon his compositions were featuring in hit TV shows such as Brothers and Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill and American Idol. In total he has written more than 75 songs which have been featured on TV.

He relocated to Los Angeles, signed with Columbia Records and released his first album We Were Here in 2006. It was received enthusiastically by fans and music critics alike receiving a four-star Rolling Stone review and achieving No. 1 position on iTunes Folk Album Chart. His second album Simple Times was released in 2008 under the Mom & Pop label and reached No. 34 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. His most successful single from the album “I'd Rather Be With You” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. He released his third album The Rock and The Tide in October 2010 and achieved similar levels of chart and critical success, with it reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Independent Chart. His most recent album Underwater was released in 2012.

Radin has played with many musical greats both during his extensive touring career as well as on his popular albums. Guest performers have included Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Gary Jules, Belmont Tench, Jim Keltner, Johnny Flagher, Jason Borger, Victor Indrizzo, Lenny Castro, Maria Taylor and Patty Griffin among others. He has also written soundtracks for hit movies including The Nanny Diaries, Catch and Release, Dakota Sky and The Last Kiss. He is in demand for personal appearances on TV shows and, most famously, after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was asked to perform at her wedding.

    Joshua Radin was amazing!

by abcmgirl on 9/27/09High Noon Saloon - Madison

I was very impressed by this trio. I came to the show thinking that I would just be listening to Joshua Radin, but I was very pleasantly surprised that Gary Jules and Amber Rubarth were great as well. The only complaint I had was that there wasn't much seating at the High Noon Saloon so we ended up standing for over three hours. They were worth it!

    Joshua Radin Rocks

by Jimmy87 on 9/27/09High Noon Saloon - Madison

This event is great, but then again it is always a good concert when you go see this guy. It was a great atmosphere, but the sound could have been better. It was hard to hear the vocals and the stage was a little small for all the musicians and their instruments. But the audience was great and very well received. Overall a great show and we need to bring him back to Wisconsin more often!!!

It wads incredible. Although I didn't know or come for the opening musicians I AM SO GLAD THEY WERE THERE. They were entertaining and Amber Rubarth caught my heart with her first line from her first song. Gary Jules was great and had me laughing a lot. Of course Joshua Radin was exceptional. May I saw PERFECT LIVE CONCERT???

    Absolutely Amazing

by tahluluah on 9/27/09High Noon Saloon - Madison

This show was amazing. The sound was kinda spotty at first, but simply amazing. Super low key and this is the first show Ive been to where the artists sound better in person than on their record!

    Amazing as always

by Feminista on 9/26/09Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Josh was awesome last night. He was very charming, talked with the audience a lot, and sang his heart out. I really enjoyed the fact that he put so much emotion into every song, unlike I have ever seen before. However, I would have prefered watching him in a standing-room venue, that is a little more laid back. The Pantages is too formal for indie artists. And his new stuff is going to take a little getting used to. But overall, an amazing show!

    Amazing Trio of Musicians!

by macgeek on 9/26/09Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Amber Rubarth, Gary Jules and Joshua Radin ended up being a PERFECT combo! The Pantages is still one of my favorite places to see live music in the Twin Cities as it really seems to impress the traveling musicians. They seem to want to play better or something. Who knows. The audio engineer kinda sucked it up though. The bass got WAY too loud at times, random white noise could be heard on a few occasions and even the musicians were asking at times to have levels adjusted (which is normal, I know but this was noticeably more than normal). Even with the minor issues, the night was still about the music and it was amazing! Great stories to go along with the songs, too.

Joshua Radin and co played a great concert

    by mbc60 on 9/26/09Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

I really enjoyed this concert. The "openers" were great and entertaining and Josh was a lot of fun to listen too. He had some songs that I thought, 'oh not as good as the CD' but others were great. My only disappointment was that he didn't play more songs from his current CD.

    Waaaay better than expected!

by sweettangerine on 9/26/09Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Joshua Radin's show was absolutely phenomenal. He seemed like a really great guy. He did a lot of talking between songs, which I'm sure not everyone loves but I really enjoyed it. He's got hilarious stories and one of the most mesmerizing voices I've ever heard. Gary Jules, one of the openers was also A LOT of fun! All around, fantastic show. I'd go again. Also...really enjoyed his new stuff. Which he won't be recording until February at the earliest. So the show is worth it just for the preview of his new songs.

Even with a rasp Still Rocked!!!

    by DBH1 on 9/26/09Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Josh Radin was excellent as usual. He had a rasp to his voice but he worked through it. He demoed some new music. He has written his new album, but can't record it until February... so if you want to hear his new tunes this is the way to do. Also, switching up his style a bit - going ROCK. Check it out!!!

    Radin live is amazing

by TKelly on 9/26/09Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

I was amazed before Joshua even got on stage with the charismatic and great stage presence of Greg Jules who opened (missed Amber but she was great when she sang with Radin in a duet). Radin's powerful voice nearly brought tears to my eyes at times but he had me laughing uncontrollably with his in between song rambling. His concert was one of the best I've seen in many years. I can't wait to see him again and hear the new album next year.

    Joshua Radin Freeze

    by Nippy0925 on 9/26/09Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Joshua and the two opening acts were great! The bass (mic on drum) was too overpowering for most of the performance. The most disappointing things was the Pantages as all people sitting under the balcony froze. Most people were complaining and asking for the air conditioning to be turned down. It was a distraction from the show.

    Delightful

    by ellie35 on 9/23/09Birdys - Indianapolis

I attended to hear some of Joshua's solo work, but he also played a lot of "new" stuff with a band. He's getting into the rock scene, which I thought was OK... but he should stick with the alternative, more mellow genre. His voice is just perfect for those type of songs. The concert itself was good. I was expecting Joshua to have a very relaxed demeanor, but he was a little high strung the first half of the concert due to some equipment failures. Overall I still give it 4 stars because I love his music.

Technology fails, do with what you've got.

    by Kendalltucky45 on 9/23/09Birdys - Indianapolis

It was a great concert! The opening acts were pretty good, and Joshua Radin was PHENOMENAL! The sound equipment was acting up so he grabbed his guitar and stood in the middle of the room and did a few songs there, then hit the stage again.

    so good and yet...

by LOLisa on 9/23/09Birdys - Indianapolis

All the music was first rate- Gary Jules was fantastic to say the very least- and despite some sound issues, Joshua Radin sang beautifully. He played alot of new stuff which was very cool. However. He was kindof a jerk the whole time. I mean, Birdy's is a bar basically, and he asked the audience to be quiet, practically yelled at the poor sound guy (who incidentally didn;t have any issues with the two other performers at all) and at one point left the stage to play in the center of the crowd for a few songs. I'm sure this was amazing for the ten or fifteen people standing right in front of him, but for the rest of the people who were there to see him, it was less than impressive. Overall, I enjoyed the show, but I would have been pissed if I had payed more than $15.
