About

Country bass crooner Josh Turner has one of the most recognizable – and deepest – voices in country music. With his fifth album, 2012’s Punching Bag, Turner added yet another entry to a string of chart-topping albums, achieving one of his biggest hits to date with single “Time Is Love.” As a child, Turner honed his unique voice singing bass in church choir quartets before heading to Nashville to pursue his passion – country music. His platinum-certified 2003 debut Long Black Train was an instant hit, rising to No. 3 on the country charts on the strength of its title track and lead single. Sophomore album Your Man would peak at No. 1 on the Country Albums chart, followed by 2007’s Everything is Fine and 2010’s Haywire, the latter featuring No. 1 hits “Why Don’t We Just Dance” and “All Over Me.” Turner is known for putting on one of the most entertaining live concerts in country music, building anticipation among ticket buyers for his upcoming 2014 tour.

Josh Turner, Jamey Johnson, Chuck Wicks

by Gardinia on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Josh was wonderful. His smile looks like a Colgate commercial! Very professional and the camera work on the stage was impressive. Very much enjoyed his performance. And you could tell he enjoyed entertaining us. Jamey was beyond discription. He truly had the audiance in his grasp. Didn't know anything about him...yet was completely mesmerized by his voice and performance. A real surprise. I'm in love with Chuck Wicks. Have been every since Dancing With The Stars. The volume of the band was so loud is was painful. Chuck's vocals were drowned out. Could not hear the lyrics for the band being louder than Chuck. Other than that...wonderful performance.

    Josh Turner was amazing!

by CountryGal89 on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

This was my first State Fair Concert, so I was extremely excited - mostly because of the amazing artists! Chuck Wicks opened with an upbeat and personal performance. He sang his hits and other various songs off his cd as well as one of his favorites from 1980. After Chuck Wicks was done, the stage was changed around for Jamey Johnson. I wasn't impressed with Jamey's performance. He said less than 30 words to the audience; my friend and I counted because he sang 5 songs without addressing his audience once. He is a good artist and songwriter, but he needs to work on his performance skills. I took my mom to this concert for her birthday and she did not enjoy this part of the concert. After almost an hour of dissappointment, Josh Turner stole the show! Turner started with Firecracker and played a number of other hits off of all his cds. He made some jokes and had quite a few comedic moments. Definately the best performer of the night! I was already a fan of Turner, but if I wasn't after last nights performance I would be! Overall a good show. It went from upbeat to slow and impersonable, and then back to upbeat and funny!

    country stars are excellent

by jessyka80 on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Josh, Jamey, & Chuck were excellent! The only problem I had was that I paid for track area but when we arrived the track was wet. They found us seats in the nose bleed section & did not get a refund of the difference in price. Tip: if it is raining ... call ahead & find out what arrangements are.

Josh Turner and Chuck Wicks are a phenomenal duo

by RyBless on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

I'll admit that I went to this concert with very high expectations - especially after seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd just a few days ago. To be honest, this concert lived up to my expectations - except for Jamey Johnson. Honestly, his lackluster performance and his rather rude demeaner toward the audience (ie: it took him up until his second to last song to even acknowledge that we were there) really brought his part of the show down, even with his great performances of "Give it Away" and "In Color". Chuck Wicks played first and was charming and incorporated the audience in such a way that we felt immersed in his world and his music. Josh Turner, as always, acted the part of the everyday guy - someone you could just sit on a porch and share a beer with - and really brought down the house. Despite being moved from the track (due to inclement weather) to less than desireable bleacher seats, the view for the show was pretty great as well. I would absolutely recommend any concert with Josh Turner or Chuck Wicks, but you could probably skip out on Jamey Johnson and not miss much.

    Josh Turner is so amazing!

by Rebafanforever on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Although it rained for an hour and a half before the show started and I didn't get to be in the front row on the track seats due to the rain, I still had a great time. The quality of the sound was surprisingly good at the Illinois State Fair, a lot of times it isn't. Chuck and Jamey did an amazing job and sang beautifully, but the best part was when Josh came on stage. The crowd went wild and he sang so beautifully. I would recommend everyone to see Josh. He sure can put on a great show!

The Josh Turner concert featuring Jamey Johnson and Chuck Wicks was an awesome concert at the Illinois State Fair. The rain didn't stop anyone on this day! Track was closed but everyone still made the best of it all!

Josh and Jamey Rocked the State Fair

by jeannie202000 on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

One of the best shows they've had at the fair in a long time! Thankfully the rain let up in time for the show. Couldn't have asked for better Sunday night entertainment. Played all their hits and a few oldies but goodies as well. Will definitley look for more from these guys.

    Good concert, but...........

by flojoeb on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Seems to me that it would have been much better had it not been quite so loud. Yes, it was an outdoor event, but the acoustics were certainly OK that the sound man could have had it down just a bit. Would have made it much more enjoyable. At times it was difficult to understand what they were saying or singing because it was reverberating so much. All in all, liked the singers and enjoyed being out there but clue in the sound guy - way overdone!

    Turner and Wicks Rocked!!

by mikezog on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Chuck Wicks started the concert off with a bang. Playing to the crowd, getting everyone involved and playing with a lot of energy. Johnson then lulled everyone to sleep (still sounded good) and then Turner came on a rocked the night. Great energy, sound and a little humor added to the fire all added up to a great show. Would definitely go and see him again.

    Josh Turner was impressive!!

by BufordT on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

We really enjoyed the concert at the Illinois State Fair. Josh Turner is awesome. He really got the crowd going and was a great entertainer. His music and talent are second to none. It is awesome that a star like him can deliver a Christian message, to the ear of such a diverse group of music listeners. He is a role model for future musicians and vocalists.

    Josh Turner deserved better

by concerthappy on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

I have seen Josh Turner in concert several times. At the Illinois State Fair, I think the Sound Man was asleep or not even there! The sound was just horrible! Most of the sound was in the mid range. There was no depth and we all know Josh has alot of depth. Now, I do have to give credit...the sound was good for when he sang his hits...towards the end of the the show. Before that...just terrible! I gave his show a 4 star just because I know it can be better.

Jamey Johnson steals the show, Chuck Wicks so-so

by IronMichael on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Jamey Johnson was simply amazing! He gave me chills when he sang "In Color". I listened so intently to everything he sang because he has such amazing lyrics and I love the deep, gravely voice. Josh Turner was everything I expected as well. He put on a great show. What made the evening not perfect was Chuck Wicks. I like him and his music, but I feel he struggles in live performances. I would have been content if they had had just Jamey and Josh. Those two alone could have delivered an amazing show.

Turner, Johnson and Wicks were Awsome

by ninny23 on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

The concert at the Illinois State Fair was awsome! Chuck wicks gave an outstanding perfomance. If only he could have played longer. I jsut love his song "Steeling Cinderella". A new song of his "Man of the House", will bring tears to your eyes! Jamey Johnson i discovered, is a man of very few words. He does have an amazing voice. He finally spoke during his last couple of songs. he sang "give it Away", a song he wrote for George Strait and of course he sang "In Color". Josh Turner was GREAT! He stage performance is awsome and his stage lighting was great. He started his set with "Firecracker" and ended with a standing ovation, which brought him out to sing "Would you Go with Me". His vocals are so awsome and so deep. Woderful performances by all thre young gents!

    Josh was Awesome!

by MiMi2006 on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Josh Turner sounded so good last night, not much variation from the cds. Thank goodness. He played all of my favorites, especially Soulmate. Chuck Wicks did well too, but I had trouble understanding some of his songs because he was muffled. Jamey Johnson wasn't my favorite. All his songs sound alike and I almost fell asleep until his last two songs. Overall, Josh made the night fabulous and it was fun!

    Josh Turner was great!

by ghjmkluik on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

Everything was great exept the timing. We went just to see Josh Turner and had to wait for the first two acts to finish before he came on. It made for a very late Sunday night. People have work and school the next day. I think they should rethink their start times next year.

by Mandz on 8/17/09Illinois State Fairgrounds Il State Fair - Springfield

We went and saw and it was a really good show. My only complaint is the day of week. We all have work and/or school the next day when they have shows on Sunday nights.
