Me and my husband went to this show because we each liked one of the artists... He went in liking JMM but didn't think it was a great show for him. For one thing, he had a few technical difficulties but it just also wasn't one of his better live shows. I went in liking Josh Garrels music and came out liking Josh Garrels and his music. A humble guy and put on a really creative, not flashy show.
It was so much fun and it felt so intimate even in a room full of a thousand people. I can't wait to see them again!
Loved the location, LOVED the music! Great show overall.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- On Jan. 27, 2016, Josh Garrels and John Mark McMillan kicked off the Revelators Tour at the Uptown Theater. Individually these artists have proven to me that they are worth a road trip. Last year I traveled to see Garrels in Lawrence, Kan. and McMillan in Memphis, Tenn. I was thrilled to catch them together at a venue so close to my home. High energy, falsetto, beyond the blue goodness is what you get with these crews. I always end up bringing at least one friend who is new to their music and their reviews consistently affirm that these guys put on a fantastic show. If you want to see the light of heaven's porch grab a ticket for these bands quickly.
Soooooo, if you like the recordings you won't regret experiencing the music live. I came specifically to see Josh Garrels and band. Them alone was worth me relaxing my penny-pinching standards to attend. Their set-up on stage was simple. Allowed you focus on the music and not a show. Josh Garrels' delivery was as true to what you hear on the recording as one could only hope. Canna believe his falsetto is that real. What?? It's a concert that any person who loves music done well and passionately would adore. And if you're a worshipper, you know, someone who hears the message in the songs and just desires to praise Christ (along with some really good music) , you won't be doing so alone. Because the brothers on stage will be doing the same; they create an amazing, welcoming atmosphere for all who attend. They welcome all of us to the table...hah!
This show was excellent. It's the second time I've seen Josh, and it's the first time I've seen John Mark. The show was great! They sounded wonderful and were very interactive with the crowd. I loved their performance, and the music is very personal/heartfelt. I can't get enough of these guys music!
Unbelievably amazing. Highly recommend seeing these guys.
This show was amazing! I can't wait to see Josh Garrels again!
The venue was amazing. Josh Garrels was of course incredible. It's been a long time since I've been at a smaller venue or a concert for a single band (as opposed to festivals or large tours). A great experience for sure. Sound was good, visuals were good, music was good. An all over great experience. Didn't hear every song I wanted but you can never expect that.
Josh Garrels' music is a mix of folk and soul. Many of his lyrics come from a Christian perspective, though his music is so independent and thought-provoking that it would never be played on typical CCM radio. His falsetto really shines through his music, and he and his band put on an amazing show.
I have been to countless concerts over the last 40 years. I can honestly say this is the best one ever. Garrels is the most genuine, pure, real musician that I know of today. Drove 10 hours for this concert and was not disappointed.
Josh was amazing. He sounded even better than his recordings, which is pretty awesome. Not many artists are as genuinely talented as he is.
Wonderful evening. Can't wait till Chicago show on the 25th of July.
I have listened to his recordings and I like the music, but the concert was too loud. He needs to get a better sound man who knows how to set the sound for the room. Because the sound was so loud, and the drum line so strong, it was impossible to understand the lyrics. I would not go again.
Hey Josh - I love your music. The warm-up guy (apparently your backup singer) was forgettable. His music was uninteresting and the lyrics unintelligible. At least his in-between banter was mildly funny. By the time you came up, we were getting a little restless. (Partly this was the Irving Place venue had the air-conditioning set to "Hurricane" and we were having trouble finding a place that didn't have a steady cool breeze blowing on us). Your set started with a whimper. I know pizazz is not your thing but your music is strong enough that you owe your fans a bit more energy on stage. You looked like you had just woken up from a nice soothing nap; you were very mellowed out. I was disappointed we didn't get "The Resistance". Some of your between-song banter was unintelligible because you were so quiet. Your lead guitarist had some feedback issues with his microphone that took about 4 or 5 songs to clear up. Anyway, I'm still a fan but I have to say this gig was a disappointment. Hopefully we just caught you on a low night.
Amazing show! Standing room only. Short people couldn't see very well.
Josh Garrels is my favorite singer/songwriter/musician/lyricist, so it's no surprise that his concert was an amazing event. His music opens my heart to God- what an incredible gift he has! Whether it's a love song about his wife, or an intense song like Zion and Babylon, he is the best around. Why he isn't played on every radio station is beyond me- I just know he has extraordinary talent. Everyone loved it!
Other than being a billion degrees and standing shoulder to shoulder for 3 and half hours it was simply perfect! I didn't know any of Will Reagan's material but was captivated from the first note, they are a must see on their own! As good as it gets, deep organic worship! You WILL go home changed. The presence of God was thick as the entire croud entered into worship. Josh Garrels was probably my favorite show to date. He is great! If you have to drive four or five hours to see Josh, DO IT! You will not regret it!
Playing in the "heartland" as he knows it, the state where he's from, Josh Garrels played a reliably wonderful show at Deluxe downtown. Will Reagan as opener was enjoyable as well. Garrels's voice was in fine form, and his backing band of friends was obviously enjoying the proceedings. The lyrics, the melodies, the instrumentation all deliver. Like a sports team playing a home game, Garrels rewarded his audience by offering a couple new songs making their concert debuts.
