  • A revelatory and life-affirming concert

by Caroline on 10/25/23Somerville Theatre - SomervilleRating: 5 out of 5

This concert gave me hope that I can still shake my hips and make relevant observational humor at 75. I will go see Jonathan Richman every time he's in town. Thanks for the laughs!

  • Great but way too short

by KB on 10/24/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Performance was wonderful. So much charisma but he went on 20 minutes late and barely played an hour It was a delightful hour but way to short Thanks for all the years…

  • Left wanting more

Jonathan is a great performer, but should have played for more than an hour. Disappointing.

  • Awesome Show!

  • His words are like the sea after a storm

Jonathan is an open, guileless wonder. So refreshing to be at a show and feel an artist connect with you as an individual, and to have not a single cell phone out for the whole time! (His wishes, which everyone honored.) He didn't sing the songs the way they were recorded, but rather the way he feels them now. For example, my favorite line of "Summer Feeling" is "Do you long for her. . . or for the way you were?" and even though he didn't sing that line, I felt it there.

  • Jonathan Richman = AMAZING!

by Mary Sunshine on 3/3/19Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

I had never heard of the Ludlow Garage before this show. It is an oddly shaped venue with high-backed seats like in an airplane, but funky and cool - especially the seats we got (the ones that only have 2 seats together). Jonathan was as quirky and awesome as I remembered (saw him 30 years ago) - and this was the PERFECT venue for him to play. It was a truly magical evening of music.

  • Please go see him...

by Evan on 3/3/19Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Every performance I see continues to be the best performance I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s not just a show, it’s a beautiful experience...I don’t really know what to say. You should just go and see for yourself.

  • Jonathan Never Fails to Entertain

Seen him live five or six times now. Wonderful guy. Wonderful show.

  • One of of the most charming musicians in existence

by Riverrr on 8/5/18Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing night ! Jonathan Richman is such a clever and delightful musician and I’ll definitely be seeing him until he decides to stop touring . So open and kind , he always engages the audience as if they were old friends .

  • was not prepared to play music.

by SirBuff on 8/3/18teragram ballroom - los angelesRating: 1 out of 5

In my entire life I don't think I've been to a ticketed show where an "artist" was so ill prepared to preform. He didn't sing a single song and instead "winged it" creating songs on the fly about "the sun in the sky that we ignore everyday". If it was a jam session around a fire with friends, I might be okay with it. But JR is awkward, tone def and wholly and completely unprepared to put on a show. I thought maybe that it might be comedy, but it wasn't.

  • Legacy of love

by mollou on 3/14/18Somerville Theatre - SomervilleRating: 5 out of 5

What pleasure to hear Jonathan's guitar and voice sing in so many languages his surprising and welcome words of humor and humility and hope. Sharing this with our thirty-something kids made up more than a little for the world we are handing them.

  • Jonathan Richman @ the Somerville Theater

    by Villen21 on 3/5/18Somerville Theatre - SomervilleRating: 5 out of 5

Great in every way. The lyrics. In a league with the great American lyricists. Warm, funny. Great transitions between numbers. A joy.

  • Jonathan was amazing

  • Talented, Funny, Lovable

by therealnadine on 11/11/15Bowery Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Jonathan Richman is so clever and original. Every song was clever and fun. His singing and guitar-playing were very skilled crafts and his dancing along was adorable. His only back-up was the drummer, who provided an excellent rhythmic support.

Awful. Boring, self-indulgent, manure. Really Awful. I walked out. Never Again.

  • My favorite live performer

by Radford42 on 11/22/13Everywhere from dive bars to larger concert halls - U.S.A.Rating: 5 out of 5

I've been going to see Jonathan live every chance I get for about the last 20 years. I've lost count at this point, but seeing him play gives me the feeling that I'm in the room with a real PRESENCE. It fills me with a unique kind of joy. He is so unselfconscious on stage, which really comes through in his goofy, yet amazing dancing. It's like he's being actively creative while he's performing and you can tell that he LOVES what he's doing. He's not just going through the motions. The few times I've been fortunate enough to talk to him or hang out a bit with him after a show, you can tell that he is a genuinely nice human being. I can't say enough positive things about this guy. He's a top-notch artist and a virtuoso on the guitar. Oh... and Tommy rocks too. :) Just quietly sitting back there working seamlessly with wherever Jonathan takes things. Love these guys.

What can I say, this old man puts on an excellent one man show. Improvised lyrics and dancin--just having a great time--and we all loved it. Tickets were only $16 (in NYC?! scandalous). Everyone should go see Jonathan Richman perform live at least once in their life.
