JONATHAN BUTLER IN CONCERT:
Singer-songwriter Jonathan Butler became an apartheid hero in the ‘70s when his teenage debut single became the first song by a black artist to receive airplay on white radio stations in his native South Africa. Nearly 40 years later, he remains an enduring icon of positive social change through music, gracing audiences with his uplifting voice on inspiring performances of his early South African music and later classics like “Lies.” At his 2013 dates, Butler was joined on stage by his daughter, whose continued presence on tour as a backing singer ensures more spiritually satisfying shows in 2014.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in apartheid-era Cape Town, the precocious young Butler showed musical promise from an early age, beginning to tour at just age seven before going on to achieve success as a teen recording idol. After a stint with South African jazz-rock legends Pacific Express, Butler signed to Jive records, relocating to the UK to continue writing and recording. He achieved his biggest international success in 1987 with “Lies,” a Grammy-nominated hit that landed at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Over the course of his decade-spanning career, Butler has released more than 20 albums, exploring a broad range of styles including jazz, pop, and gospel. Following the release of a Christmas album in 2013, Butler is once again the road for a string of highly anticipated North American dates.

I absolutely loved listening to Nicole Henry who I had never heard before & Jonathan Butler is always good. Of all the performances I totally enjoyed Richard Elliott!!!!!

This show was phenomenal especially Richard Elliott’s performance! The venue was uncomfortably warm.
All the music was excellent. Jonathan Butler was excellent.. The only negative was the air conditioning issue and old building, need updating.

Music was wonderful. Jonathan Butler more than lives up to expectations. He brings energy and genuineness. Would have loved to hear more of his Gospel songs...but what he did was wonderful. The theater hall was muggy / warm / uncomfortable. Most of the musicians referenced it and it was evident to everyone in attendance.
The performances were awesome! I had never heard of Nicole Henry and her voice is AMAZING! I will definitely love to hear her again. Richard Elliot is one of my favorites and put on a fantastic show! Love him! It was my first time hearing Jonathan Butler live and he was outstanding! The entire show was a hit. It was very hot and humid in the venue. I almost left, but decided to stay and enjoy the rest of the artists after Nicole.
It was well worth the wait! The opening act was talented. So nice to also hear Richard Elliott. Jonathan Butler was phenomenal and to also get an autographed copy of his newest cd was a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Nicole gave us a sultry tone of love. Richard blew us away ... no oun intended. And, to close the night out A-Mazing at best, Jonathan provided memorable moments... until next time. What a beautiful night for smooth jazz!!

The Vogel venue has great seating, very intimate yet not too much. Very pleasant and accommodating staff. The show was excellent!

What a fantastic Christmas jazz concert. The musicians played together and individually with love and appreciation for each other. We're big fans of Grace Kelly, and hadn't seen Jonathan Butler before this. What a treat. He's an amazing guitarist, singer, and collaborator. The band and guest singer were incredible, too. Loved it. Would come again next year, or sooner.

Long time fan on J.B. I have literally seen him all over the world.. It was great to see the growth of the man. Musically, spiritually, still one of the best jazz shows you will see.. Just an all time great artist.
This was one of the best concerts I have been to. They started on time and they played 2+hours straight with no intermission
Jonathan Butler was absolutely amazing!! We can't wait for him to return to Vegas. The staff was so helpful and professional so it made the entire experience so wonderful.
Great show. It was wonderful to hear him stay true to his roots, and his faith was something that truly uplifted for me. I look forward to his next show here in Las Vegas.

It was a wonderful time. The music was incredible and Jonathan Butler who has a wonderful voice and is also an amazing musician, did not disappoint. He was funny sincere and such a personable host, walking us through his life journey. The band and back up singer were also incredible. So glad I was able to go and would love to see him again.
