JONATHAN BUTLER IN CONCERT:


Singer-songwriter Jonathan Butler became an apartheid hero in the ‘70s when his teenage debut single became the first song by a black artist to receive airplay on white radio stations in his native South Africa. Nearly 40 years later, he remains an enduring icon of positive social change through music, gracing audiences with his uplifting voice on inspiring performances of his early South African music and later classics like “Lies.” At his 2013 dates, Butler was joined on stage by his daughter, whose continued presence on tour as a backing singer ensures more spiritually satisfying shows in 2014.

Born in apartheid-era Cape Town, the precocious young Butler showed musical promise from an early age, beginning to tour at just age seven before going on to achieve success as a teen recording idol. After a stint with South African jazz-rock legends Pacific Express, Butler signed to Jive records, relocating to the UK to continue writing and recording. He achieved his biggest international success in 1987 with “Lies,” a Grammy-nominated hit that landed at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Over the course of his decade-spanning career, Butler has released more than 20 albums, exploring a broad range of styles including jazz, pop, and gospel. Following the release of a Christmas album in 2013, Butler is once again the road for a string of highly anticipated North American dates.

    The concert was the best concert I’ve been too in a long while. The venue is nice and there was a positive vibe in the place. Jonathan Butler is a true musician and entertainer. Rick Braun, Richard Elliot and Peter White were great! I would highly recommend this line up! They played a great selection of songs that keep the crowd rocking!

    This was what I call "BEYOND AWESOME."There are no words to express the Ministry of Jonathan Butler and his company! God used every one of them to their fullest, I believe. This has to be the best concert I've ever attended. Even the opening act was awesome! To God be the glory for sure!

    Mr. Butler was good. The jazz musicians who came on last were outstanding! Perfect venue! Perfect weather. Came for JB. More impressed by second act. All in all, a great night.

    This was my first show at mabel house amphitheater. The facility was better than I expected.ĺ The sound was clear and crispy. As for the artist preformed outstanding. I purchased Lawn seating and really enjoyed being able to runmy toes through the grass while enjoying some Smooth Jazz sounds. Iwill definitely be back, so save my seats.

    What an awesome display of talent! Johnathan and his band were superb! Didn't know his wife was the exceptional violinist. Rick Braun, Richard Elliott and Peter White were the icing on the cake! Fantastic night of live music at the wonderful Mable House Amphitheatre.

    I loved the show. All of the artist were amazing. I don't get to see Johnathan Butler often, so I was excited to see him. He did not disappoint. The show was amazing from begin to the end. This was our first time at the Maple House Amphitheatre and we really enjoyed it. Definitely will return and it goes without saying I'll see all of the musician again.
