Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, North Florida. Former Civil Wars John Paul White on the last gig of his solo Florida Tour, put on a command performance, as he left the crowd in raptures. He sang all of the songs from his latest album "The Hurting Kind, released in April of this year, sprinkled the magic with a couple of classics from the Civil Wars' debut album, "Barton Hollow," and augmented his set with a cover or two, ending with Tom Paxton's "You Were Always On My Mind."
The breakup of folk singing duo Joy Williams and John Paul White, unofficially in 2012 due to "unreconcilable differences," led to both searching for different creative directions and ultimately to solo careers. Our collective loss in no longer hearing the Civil Wars perform together, was the audience's gain on Wednesday night when John Paul White stepped onto the stage by himself and blew us all away! His dulcet tones had the crowd purring with contentment and several songs were met with shrieks of anticipation and oohs and aahs and hoops and hollers, as their acknowledgements met receptive ears.
