About

John Oliver is an Emmy and Writer's Guild Award-winning writer, comedian, and host of the HBO show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. On his occasional breaks from television, John returns to his first love of stand-up, performing to sold-out venues around the world.

From 2006-2013, he was a correspondent on the multi-award winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, guest-hosting the show for two months during Stewart's absence in 2013.

After co-hosting the weekly satirical podcast The Bugle with Andy Zaltzman until 2015 and starring in his first stand-up special John Oliver: Terrifying Times, John went on to host four seasons of his own stand-up series for Comedy Central, John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, which featured a handpicked selection of his favorite comedians.

Oliver voices the character Zazu in the 2019 Disney film The Lion King and will voice a character in the 2019 Paramount film Amusement Park, following previous guest roles including Danger Mouse, Community, The Smurfs, The Smurfs 2, Bob's Burgers, The Simpsons, The Detour, and Rick & Morty.

  • Such a Fun Night!!!

My 14yo daughter and I LOVED this show! The opener and Oliver and Meyers were all hilarious! The right balance of funny, education, politics and family. Could not have been more happy with the whole show!

  • Fun and interesting

John Oliver and Seth Myers were terrific ... funny, informative, and great to see. The only problem was a problem with the microphone was that you could hear every breath, mouth sound, etc. which was very distracting and difficult to listen to. But the show itself was awesome.

  • Super fun

The show was fabulous! Very funny, current, honest and simply a great time. I laughed out loud throughout. Go see it!

  • They are great, but the venue . . .

by Veronica on 7/30/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

It's John Oliver and Seth Meyers. They are amazing and funny and sharp and witted. The missing star in the review is the sound system in the venue. It was AWFUL. Half of what they said cannot be understood, at least not in the balcony. That is completely unacceptable, especially for a stand up comedy show. It's 2025, c'mon Beacon Theater, invest in new equipment. God knows you are not selling cheap tickets!

  • Don't miss it!

by Dorothy on 5/26/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was absolutely a must see. I don't think I ever laughed so much. John Oliver is amazing & I want to be his friend. Seth Meyers was adorable, not as funny as John Oliver but about what you see if you watch his show. Both of them laughed at themselves & the Q & A afterwards was quite interesting so be sure to stay for that.

What a fun show. Had a lot of laughs and it was a great night out! Highly recommend it.

  • From the front row of the balcony...

by Ted on 5/22/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

From the front row of the balcony... Either the audio engineer did not adapt and/or John Oliver does not know how to properly use a mic... but it was impossible, for most of his performance, to understand a single word he said. Especially when he would deliver the punch line! Thinking, maybe it was me... I asked several people around me... and they all felt the same. Seth Meyer was fine!

  • Know Your History

An informative and hilarious discussion on the benefits of knowing our history.

  • Brilliant Humor

by Ellie on 5/21/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

John Oliver is the most intelligent and insightful humorist we have. It amazes me that I always learn something from him in the midst of all the laughter. I would enthusiastically pay for another show!

  • Great comedy at The Beacon

by Sher on 4/30/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Saw John Oliver and Seth Meyers at The Beacon Theatre. Great venue with amazing acoustics ( courtesy of The Sphere!). They are great comedians and everyone needs a laugh, especially during these trying times!

  • Terrible Acoustics

by Squirrel on 4/30/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

I was in first row of the lower balcony. I love John Oliver but was so disappointed that most of his performance was unintelligible. On the other hand, Seth Myers spoke more quietly than Oliver and I was able to understand what he was saying. Most of the laughter was coming from the floor and loge. I looked around at others sitting in the balcony and noticed most were not laughing. I can only conclude that they were experiencing the same problem I was having with the acoustics at that level when a performer speaks too loudly into the microphone. Again, I was so disappointed.

  • Great Show!

by Musiclady on 4/30/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic...so funny. Just what we need at this time! Two things - if John and Seth were standing more downstage , then from my seat in the baIcony, I would have been able to see them easily the entire time. Instead I was leaning and craning my head back and forth as they constantly moved stage right and left because they were totally blocked by the guy in front of me. . And please ask them to include the balcony during the Q and A !

  • Oliver and Meyers...WOW!

by Mike on 4/11/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great evening out with two of our favorite comics. This show is well worth the price and time devoted. There was even more to cheer for the Q&A after the "official"show. If you like either (or both) of these personalities, I couldn't thinks of a better venue and combination of talent! Highly recommend this event while they are still doing them.

  • John Oliver and Seth Meyers were so funny!

by Angela on 4/2/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

We laughed the whole time from start to finish. They also did some Q and A at the end. It was such a fun night. Also they did long sets so really lots of entertainment. I highly recommend going. Well worth the money.

Too much talk about parenting - should have more topical discussions.

  • Hysterical and thought-provoking

Such an awesome show. Wonderful mix of comedy personalities and so entertaining. We laughed hard!

  • John Oliver was good, Seth Meyers meh

    by J-P on 2/27/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

Two very long sets started a bit late so I already got quite tired by the time Seth went on stage. $150 for a ticket in obstructed view (which it wasn't really) was quite a lot overall. End questionary was nice.

  • okay

by ll on 2/26/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

John Oliver was engaged physically and mentally. Seth was just a bit flat.
