  • John Hammond is a National Treasure

by RobbyD145 on 3/6/18Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Mr. Hammond's country blues playing is astounding, and his personal stories with the writers of this wonderful music to set up each song is priceless. If he is anywhere remotely close to you he must be seen and heard. If he is playing at the Ponte Vedra Music Hall you HAVE to go! The venue and people running the place are just wonderful. I will be back to see him.

John Hammond is a blues master who plays and sings with such feeling and passion that one is left in awe, and wishing with all one’s heart that you too could present yourself with such quality, integrity and fidelity in whatever you do at the ripening age of 76 as John Hammond did at the performance near the beach just south of Jacksonville last Saturday night.

  • John Hammond Ponte Vedra

John was excellent, nothing like hearing an old very talented white guy performing the blues of old black guys. His stories were insightful. The concert hall was converted from an church. A/C was on but unnecessary since the temperature had dropped outside. Made it uncomfortable for some.

What a show! My wife especially enjoyed Willie and Rick. I really liked Rick's guitar work. And Mr. Hammond--what's there to say that hasn't been said? A wonderful night of wonderful music, beginning to ending!!

John Hammond was truly amazing. I drove 130 miles each way to see him and it was well worth the trip. It was incredible to watch him play harp and finger pick at the same time. What an unforgettable experience.

  • Keeping the blues alive!

Rory Block opened with a too short set. She is a blues woman who stays true to the great blues masters along with her own music. She played all over her 3 Martins- hand slapping, slide, foot stomping, and she put her soul out there for all to see. She introduced her new book avail on Amazon 'when a women gets the blues'. I have known Rory for years & she was kind enough to sing a song in memory of my late husband, Bear who loved her. John Hammond managed to sing his bottle of water off the table as he warmed the stage! Both performers were great to see not only because they are fantastic performers but because they talk to the crowd, explain the history of the song, share their life stories, and make make you feel like they really care about what they sing and who they sing it to. Thank you!

A great night of Blues! Both artists were phenomenal. I wish they had done a song or two together.

I have heard clips of John over the past few weeks but seeing him live was truly a gift. He had a total command of the audience and his instruments. He has a lot of soul!! I would definitely see him again and strongly recommend that if you haven't seen him, next time you get the opportunity, you should.
