Great Show! VIP Experience Could be Better.

by AMS on 10/30/23Akron Civic Theatre - Akron

Cleese was great. They could work on the VIP experience to be better organized and have more signs telling you what to do

    Loved the show!

by Susan CD on 10/24/23Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

When I found out that John Cleese was going to be performing in Englewood, my husband and I knew we had to attend — though we couldn’t afford VIP or Member seating. John was as ebulliently and irreverently hilarious as ever. The audience loved his Monty Python reminiscences and clips. His daughter Clarissa doesn’t have her father’s innate comic timing, or his breadth and depth of intellect or knowledge — many of the jokes in her intro set just fell flat. I am sure he would love for her to succeed in standup — but she is inadequate as his opening act or foil in the post-intermission Q&A session. We could have enjoyed a continuation of John’s first act forever.

And now for something completely different…

by BDeer on 10/24/23Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Had an incredible time! Camille that opened for her dad did a great job.. hot and funny! John was very funny, it was just the right mix of funny stuff, interesting stories, short clips and Q&A. Was about 1.5 hours with a 30 minute intermission in the middle.. started 8pm sharp. I would definitely recommend!

    What a fantastic opportunity

by Michael on 10/24/23Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

This amazing man has been a part of my life since forever. What a pleasure to see him again up close and personal. As witty and smart and absurd as ever. And to meet his daughter. I expected to enjoy this, but it was even more than that. It brought back fond memories and was a chance to share with my son. And I laughed harder than I have in years (the last time I laughed this hard was when I saw him at the O2 in London). If you have not yet listened to John's autobiography, I also recommend that highly. And listen rather than read. His delivery is transformative. Thank you!

John Cleese had me in stitches! He was just so funny! Showed some clips of Monty Python with explanations. Which made them even funnier!

A “silly” evening at “The Circus”

by Better late (John Cleese) than never. on 10/22/23The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

The show was as expected ( some nice stories about John’s career mixed with some video clips). I really didn’t expect a whole lot more, but was hoping for something unexpected nonetheless. The addition of his daughter as the warm up act and moderator during the second act was interesting although she is hardly a comic I would go out of my way to see on her own. I am glad he is alive and well and working. The flying circus is a show that was part of my “play list” in my younger years. Whenever I can see one of my favorites live and in person, I feel like I am saying thank you for their contribution to my world. His stories of what happened “back stage” in the day were very interesting. Some of his interactions with his daughter were a lame attempt at comedy however as his forced laughter and her caustic “Schlick” fell flat for me. He seemed to almost apologize for any dips in the quality of the evening by slipping in a line or two about how old he is. That strategy did play well with the audience with an average age of 65! I am glad I went. I would go again. Not the best comedy show of my life, but as he said with his final comment….I was glad it was over so I could go home to bed.

    John Cleese Performance

by Suttercyclist on 6/10/22SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

The first part of the show covered the time with Monty Python was very funny. This was replace by types of dark humour, which for the most part was also funny. The last bit was picked questions from the audience. This was rather dry, as John Cleese generally told us stories of events that he had experience that were related to a certain question.

    John Cleese

by Pennie on 6/2/22SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

My husband and I had an amazing evening. John Cleese was hilarious as ever and kept us laughing the entire time. We were ready to see him again the next day! If he comes back to Sacramento, we'll be first in line to get tickets! John was entertaining and charming, relating stories of his crazy past escapades. He was also interesting and gave us a lot of insight into comedy and even into the way people think. He was spot on! We had VIP tickets and had the opportunity to meet John after the show. That was over the top for us! He was humble, sweet and compassionate to the fans who were excited to have a chance to meet him. He didn't disappoint!! He was attentive and thoughtful. This was, by far, the best show we've ever attended. Thank you for bringing him to Sacramento!!

Loved hearing the stories John Cleese shared with the videos. Glad I won my tickets because if I had paid for them, then I would have been disappointed.

    Well Done (Not Woke)

by Ross on 5/31/22SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

I am a big John Cleese fan, so I am afraid my review will be biased in his favor. I just love his dark humor and sarcasm. He is one of the best at it. He showed some fun clips from Monty Python, the Holy Grail, and even a Fish called Wanda and then gave us some funny behind the scenes stories all of them. He talked about the loss of Graham Chapman and how it impacted the Monty Python gang. He contrasted the humor of the past to today's woke cancel out mentality. I must say that I sided with him. If you don't like it, don't go or leave, but don't cancel everyone out. Comedy is about the absurd and abnormal. He even told some fun (light hearted) race jokes that were truly funny and not malicious. My only criticism was that they asked the audience not to take pictures. I understood the distractions filming could cause and wholeheartedly support that request, but one picture wouldn't have hurt anything. It was a fun night though.

John Cleese was amazing! If we had the chance to see him again, we would be first in line to buy tickets. He was hilarious throughout the entire show. It was wonderful to hear his amazing stories. We had VIP seats and meeting him added to our fantastic experience. He was modest and caring. We love him even more now! Please bring him back!

by Inkstop on 5/30/22SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

John Cleese reminds us of what real humor was all about before the woke pandemic! Irreverent, but not in a mean way, ok minor mean, but why not!!

The venue was nice. Very friendly customer service. The show itself was okay, not great. Maybe it was an off night for John.

Disappointing expectations for J. Cleese performance.

by CuriousJ on 5/30/22SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

I realize J Cleese is 82 and is sharp as a tack but the replaying of the old Monty Python clips, movies and British TV clips dominated the performance. I found myself looking at my watch to gather how much longer.... The most interesting segment was the question and answer interaction. I would not recommend this event to friends or family.
