What a treat to see one of my favorite comedians sharing his memories, and having fun doing it,,,as we all did!!
John Cleese is a gentleman. He is funny. His humor is often dark and deeply sarcastic. However, he welcomed the fans with warmth. Everyone who participated in the photo op was greeted with a smile and with genuine appreciation. Two important takeaways from last night: First, his last name rhymes with cheese not with geese. The family name had been Cheese. But his father changed it when he enlisted in the British army. Second, it is not clear that Marjorie Taylor Green weighs more than a duck.
John Cleese and his daughter are both very funny. Loved hearing his stories and their banter.
Loved every minute of it. He's been my favorite since forever! Meeting him was delightful!
What an amazing show. Cleese is a legend of comedy and still puts on a great show. Camilla is continuing her fathers legacy and has a bright future and really adds to the show.
John Cleese was every bit as amazing and funny on stage as I had hoped, but what a pleasant surprise on two fronts: his wonderfully funny daughter and some great tidbits (including the naughty ones) about Monty Python history and personalities.
It was very funny and quite informative too. I would recommend to any fan.
It was a thrill to see comedy legend John Cleese live (well, mostly alive) and in person. He’s just as charming and brilliant as ever. I’ve seen several shows at The Balboa theater in San Diego, but this was my first time sitting in the Balcony. I must say the rows are far too close together for comfort. I have never had that experience in the Orchestra level. Ouch.
I thought this was a perfectly adequate performance. Mr. Cleese's daughter was pretty good as an opening act and I thought Mr. Cleese covered some good topics. It was not side-splitting hilarious, but how many times do you get to see a legend in action? Overall, I enjoyed the show and would go back to watch it again.
I am so grateful I had a last chance to see him before he really does die! He is so funny, and so quick witted. It was a very nostalgic experience. Well worth it.
Amazing, intimate show. Funny, heartwarming. Comedy, stories and Q&A. Exactly what you want to see from an OG Python. Catch him live! What a legend!
Loved his witty banter with his talented daughter and the injection of some of the best Python clips. Naughty as ever!
John Cleese has all the great stories. He brings the video clips, the memories, the behind the scenes to the movies as well as his wry humor and anecdotal wit. Saucy and delightful, a gentleman who you would delight to have in your home on a Saturday night time and time again for dinner just to listen to his stories about his life, experiences as well as his ability to make everyone laugh heartily. The show opens with his daughter, who warms things up, then he comes out for about 45 minutes. After a 15 minute intermission to allow him to use the facilities (he’s 84 for crying out loud), then it is Q&A for the rest of the time, which is about an hour and that is the show. It is a bit short in that it lasted a little over 2 hrs, but again, he’s 84. Had a great time. Very funny!
I really did not know who this person was, couldn't find much on the internet but love comedy. this was not real comedy. It was awful, killing dogs, vomiting, nothing I would ever laugh about. Wish I Icould get my money back. I think there should be more about what the comedy is about and less about how many years this man has been performing. I know now why I had never heard of him.
He and his daughter, Camilla, were both entertaining separately and together.
The biggest issue was the audio. I don’t know if Cleese needed to choke up o. The mike or they needed to turn down the gain, but for a lot of the show the audio from Cleese was coming out either to loud or to quiet. Which is weird since it’s a one man talking show.
I love everything that Monty Python did, pretty much. Sometimes they went a little further over the top for my taste, but they were always on the spectrum of funny and they were definitely pushing the edge of acceptable so you will get a miss every now and then with any individual audience member. This show was a nice reflection back on John's career, for sure. There were many sentimental moments that reminded me of why I love John Cleese. I just didn't love the construction of the show. He is on tour with his daughter who was "ok"from a comedian perspective. Nothing amazing, but some funny bits for sure. I appreciated the fact that he was passing the baton to his daughter, but it started to come apart when they got on stage together. She leafed through the cards with questions on them that supposedly came from the audience, but she spent the vast majority of her time on stage flipping through and organizing the cards not a part of John's reflections to the audience. The cards were almost never referenced in their conversation and there were many fairly obviously scripted interchanges between them that were going to happen regardless of what was on the cards. It was set up trying to a be casual conversation that came across as an awkwardly timed exchange of lines instead. That part was a little... and I hate to say this, but .... "Sad"is the best word that I could use to describe it. Having said that, there were some great moments of nostalgia, and a little bit of behind-the-scenes looks that John gave about his experiences in his career that made the night memorable. I'm glad I went, for sure, but without the nostalgia moments, it would have been just "meh". If you love John Cleese, you can get to see him once more "before he dies"but if you aren't already a fan, there is little in the show for you.
It's lovely to watch comedians that love what they're doing. Clearly this is the Cleese case.
First, John was great! Impressed with how quickly he can respond to a topic and go into a long anecdote with no notes, keep it engaging, and entertaining. His co-conspiritor during Q&A enjoys putting him on the spot. Production was off, maybe venue issue. MC did not do a great job of setting crowd expectations.
Unfortunately his material was so bad that it outweighed the desire to be in his presence. I am huge MP fan but this act has little of that and more ranting about politics and woke jokes. First show I’ve ever walked out on. His daughter is not a good comedic opening act. They both continued to tell bad jokes to try to build on previous flops but it just made it worse and more cringe worthy. I wanted this to be sooooo good but it just isn’t.
