    Fantastic performer and entertainer!

    by srotto5 on 6/27/14Howard Theatre - Washington

Good food, good whiskey, and even better music! Joe Purdy and Brian Wright put on a show like no others. They have it all- good stories to back up their songs/lyrics, funny quips, and, most importantly of all, in a day and age where auto tune and back tracks run the market, both Joe and Brian sound as good, and possibly better, live than they do recorded.

Purdy was good, but needs to have a better set list of songs that are not from an album that most people have never heard. When you're not overly famous, play your old stuff that's why people came to see you. He did interact well with the crowd and sounded amazing!

Joe was great as always. Venue was a little odd- made it hard to find a spot where you could see the performance. His show at the Rumba room a few years back had a much better vibe- open and the crowd was into it. This crowd seemed like they hadn't heard his songs before other than a small group of folks who seemed to be singing along.

    Captivating.

by LooM on 6/28/12Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

The entire show was captivating: The unyielding energy of The Giving Tree Band cannot be understated or under appreciated. The down home licks and lyrics of their original music would be enough to sweep you off your feet and spirit you away back to the green farm fields of Illinois (a place very near to this little girl's heart), if you weren't so busy stomping your feet and wishing you knew the words well enough to sing along. Further, TGTB maintained that energy and passion when they came back out on stage to accompany the great Joe Purdy. You know that hollow vibration you get in your heart when you're truly moved by a sentiment? Well, Purdy melted hearts as he crooned his smart and soulful lyrics under a haunting reverb. His voice often condensed down a tortured whisper, just before bellowing out in tormented emphasis. And through it all The Giving Tree Band lent a depth, edge and gravitas to songs that can feel much more dreamy and distant when Purdy performs alone. The performance was outstanding. Blueberry Hill provided ample seating, which was wonderful. The only drawback that I observed was a prevalent humidity in the Duck Room that seemed to plague Purdy's guitar with tuning trouble. But that was the fault of the air that night, unless of course there's a climate control specialist on the payroll. In that case, that guy should be fired. Excellent show guys.

Joe was awesome !!! it did take some time for him to warm up and get into it performance. It was great to see a performer not want to end the evening.. especially on a Monday night

Brighton Music Hall is a small venue that provides for an intimate show overflowing with energy from the extremely talented Joe Purdy, Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. Their passion for music was evident, giving the crowd plenty reason to fall completely in love with them.

The milk carton kids were a great opening act. Joe Purdy was in great form playing requests from the crowd and exchanging banter with the backup band. Such a great show!

Wish he played some of his older stuff more and when did Joe get to be so hillbilly?

    mixed feelings

by DashNathan on 6/23/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Joe, without doubt, has presence, a remarkable voice that effortlessly fills the room, and a great repertoire of songs. However, for a venue in which everyone pretty much had to stand, it would have been a much better event had he not performed more mellowed versions of his songs. Having said that, it's understandable that without a traveling band, there isn't much he can do about it. All in all, I enjoyed the show, but was ready to leave before the encore (although I am glad I stayed for Canyon Joe)

    Great show

by ArkansasBoulderTransplant on 5/14/11Bluebird Theater - Denver

I also enjoy going and seeing Joe Purdy sing. The Bluebird was a great venue making the show much more up close and personal. If you like some good ole folk music with a very unique style than Joe Purdy should not be missed. He sings and play so beautifully and with each song your heart just wants to melt a little more. Definitely a more chill and relaxed crowd, not to much dancing, but thats to be expected with Joe Purdy's music. Great show to take a loved one too, very romantic yet Joe gives it that manly ozark mountain ruggedness. I would definitely go see him again!

    What an amazing show

    by lalala23 on 5/14/11Bluebird Theater - Denver

The Milk Carton Kids are absolutely awesome. Their show switches from witty banter (they are hilarious) to deep emotional lyrics with ease. These guys truly connect with their audience, whether it's in a big venue like the Bluebird or in a more intimate setting. I really enjoyed it, and I would love to see them again soon. I think this duo, being new, is the start of something very special. It was an honor to see them. Joe Purdy did a great job, and shut up the increasingly restless crowd with a few quick remarks. I thought bringing the Milk Carton Kids into his set and having them play with him was also a great move, and they sounded wonderful together. I wasn't sure what to expect with Joe, but I was very pleased.

    Joe Purdy dissapointing

by DJEli on 12/4/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

Joe was a little dissapointing. Many of his songs sounded a lot alike, his harp skills were rudinmentary and he didn't play 3 of his best songs (Wash Away, City, Can't Get It Right Today). Gotta please the fans sometime.

I loved this concert! It was all I thought about all day on tuesday and being able to see him on stage was so amazing! He is beautiful in every way. I get lost in his voice and his songs. The whole thing just made my heart extremely happy. Meaghan Smith blew me away! I loved her! She was so cute, I loved her song "You got out"
